Welcome back, mere mortalites, to a relatively new addition here in the mere mortals. I'm gonna be doing a monthly review at the very least. So if you've been listening to the podcast for a little while, you do know that we do monthly goals. We talk about what's been happening, what's working for us, and what are we gonna be playing on to the future. And I thought, look. I'll I'll do something a little bit different in which I will reflect on the month that has been. So here, I'm gonna be looking at May for myself and kind of extracting what are the learnings, the positive things, the downsides, what didn't work, to try to extract the good stuff, and play it back to you, individuals, to see if it's at all of a benefit. I've called it some timeless wisdom that I've picked up over May. Now in short order, I do this already, so it's basically something that I'm trying to play out to me and more lights at home in terms of, hey. This is things that I note down from a if I'm gonna be specific, I go through a daily journaling practice, kinda changes through the month or through the years that I'm doing it. But in general, it leaves a little bit of a summary of how I'm going on a day to day basis.
I reflect on that on a month to month basis summarizing, you know, the the highlights, the good stuff so So when I'm going back and reflecting on, hey. How did the year go and whatnot? I relatively go and check the months as opposed to checking all the days. I will go and check the days if I need to, if I wanna, you know, look at something or remedies in the past, but it's the monthly summaries that really help me out to summarize, find the learnings, find the stuff that was good through a particular month. And so what I'm doing here is I'm just trying to articulate it for individuals back at home, see if it's any good. And I pulled out 9 items, 9 items with a couple of quotes and some philosophers are app philosophies around it. So let's see how we go. Let's get into it. The first one, I called it the present's principle. The present moment is the only time over which we have dominion. That's from Thich Nhat Hanh. So the philosophy around that, right, is the embracing the power of now for it is the only moment where life truly unfolds, engaging fully and authentically with the present to shape a meaningful existence.
So the present principle came up for me at the very least because during the month, I was over in Japan, and one of the big things I wanted to do while there was a twofold of kind of vlogging every day, an internal vlogging. It's not something I'm gonna be sharing out, openly to the world, but it was something with me and my family to reminisce on, go look back at memories, and to be present. Now one of the hard things I often find in in being present is being present is is around you know, when you're creating something like a video, it's harder than be pulled away while sorry. Let me start that again.
If my if my daughter's walking around and we're in Japan and something's occurring, it sometimes is hard to try to be videoing something and still be in the present. So it the the a whole reason of not publicizing these particular blogs or trying to edit them in whatever way is because those sort of blogs or videos I created were very short, very sharp. It was very much me talking with her, talking with the family, and it it kept the the threat of being really, really present, which was, yeah, at least one of the things I really, really wanted. So that was phenomenal for me. Other one just I mean, this is just in general around, presence is or the power of being present was also some, through the month as well. It kinda comes into another piece, but just being sick and not being able to use or leverage what for me is really a great benefit, which is training, just gymming, doing other things. I found myself just thinking all all over the place or thinking of things I needed to do from a work perspective, a podcast perspective, and and what have you. So out of the notes really came out the there's a power and presence in being able to be just in the moment of what you're doing.
2nd one, health as the foundation of success. Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live. Yeah. Look. Self explanatory. As I mentioned, there was sort of coming off the back of Japan. I was quite sick towards the tail end of that trip, And to be frank with you, it's only been the last few days I've gone really over it. I'm aware it's well into tune at the moment. Well, I'm recording this right now. It kinda sucks. It always sucks. We we experience this, of not being a 100% of being able to pursue whatever you have in, that you have in mind that you wanna pursue at a 100% or with a full passion that you have. And it once again reminded me and through the notes sort of came out of how important it is to be functional, to be healthy, to do the things that you need. One thing in particular, however, is I had a trip with Karen down to Sydney, and we actually found ourselves having a really enjoyable time, but also we overdrank. We overdrank. And the following day wasn't good. Right? Hungover, didn't feel like I wanted to eat properly, was supposed to maybe go for a walk, didn't even do that, and it once again made it really crystal clear to me. You know, I'm in a stage of my life now, which I'm sure most of you might go through that stage. Maybe you're still in the, up and coming part of Alahuel. We have to experience that, but for me, I was like, you know what? I don't need that anymore, and it is it places or takes away a lot of what I would consider the health importance in my life right now that I don't wanna do again. So that was also good real, learning points to pick up.
The third one, the dialogue, dialogue of the divine. Communication to a relationship is like oxygen to life. Without it, it dies. That's from Tony Gaskin. The philosophy there, fostering a culture of open and empathetic communication, the strength of our relationships lies in our ability to speak and listen with sincerity and compassion. Dialogue and conversation. Dialogue and conversation. I'll say it one more time. Super important throughout the month once again. This always comes up really for me. It was recognizing, wow. How much better is life when you're communicating correctly, when the dialogue that you're having between people is transparent, it's truth, it's open, it's honest, you know, holding it back. It is hard to find, obviously, people to do that with with my partner, with my family. It is a lot easier these days, but doesn't always happen. Right? And it was a bit of a reminder of, yeah, having the dialogue, the dialogue of dialogue of the divine does help out in just crushing through some of the fluffy slash anxiety inducing slash kind of worthless time that you'll spend ruminating or thinking about things when you could have just talked about it and been very direct.
The 4th one, mindful mastery. Mindfulness isn't difficult. We just need to remember to do it. That's from Sharon Salzberg. The philosophy there is cultivate mindfulness as a path to inner peace and clarity. Through mindful presence, we transcend the chaos of the mind and find harmony in every moment. So this is slowly adjacent, but just mindfulness, so just being mindful of the present of what you are doing to be and here's probably why popped up as a bottom of our summary is that throughout the month, we started really shifting the idea of talking to our daughter and saying, hey, careful, careful, careful, careful, careful, which is such a default for myself, which is doing something new, something that I'm scared that she's gonna get hurt, and changing it to, hey, be mindful. Hey, be mindful. Hey, please be mindful. That does happen all the time at the moment, but I'm trying to get there. It's something that actually got picked up from a Tony Robbins episode around parent and raising kids. And I think it also just cemented the changing the the language, changing the mentality, and as sort of Sharon's quote is, it isn't difficult really. Right? The act of saying, hey, be mindful as opposed to, hey, be careful is easy, but we often forget why you have existing path to the way that you speak or the way that you operate, your standard operating practices.
They're kind of cemented through the railroad track that you put through your life. It's easy, but does take practice does takes reps to get the mindful mastery going. Harmonious living is the 5th one. Don't get so busy making a life that you forget to make a life. Sorry. Don't get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life by Dolly Parton. So, you know, philosophy here, achieving balance by harmonizing the pursuit of success with the joy of living. True fulfillment comes from integrating professional aspirations with personal contentment.
I'm always living. Yep. Don't forget, you gotta have a bit of a mixture. I was going through the monthly summary and the notes that I put down. There's a fine balance of the days that are really great where I was able to balance everything from a family, from relationship, from business, from a learning, from a training, from a body perspective. And the times when and your day specifically where it isn't that great can sometimes be when it had a really fantastic, you know, extreme event in a positive sense from a business perspective. But maybe it was lacking sleep. I was liking my training. I was liking relationships. I was liking that dialogue, and the harmony wasn't there. And then overall, the summary for the day, it actually wasn't as great. So finding the the harmony, you know, don't don't forget to make a living, trying to figure out how to make a life. You know? Focus on the living.
Life will come along. 6, gratitude alchemy. Gratitude turns what we have into enough. Transform your perception through the practice of gratitude by appreciating the present. We unlock the abundance within our lives and elevate our well-being. This was an easy one. Right? Gratitude does convert the what we're thinking isn't enough to be enough. This is a problem I have a lot with. I have these conversations all the time whether it's am I starting to wonder and wanting to do different things? It is so clear to me that when I can focus on gratitude of what I've got right now, shit, what I had a little while ago, it turns into enough very, very quickly. So don't forget that. 7th, the excellence ethos, quote, we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit from old mate, Aristotle.
Yes. It's it is not an act, but a habit of the philosophy. Embark in a relentless pursuit of excellence through continuous self improvement. Greatness is fortune, the habits we cup cultivate, and the dedication we uphold. Yes. Excellent ethos. These are a couple of notes that were picked up just on the reviewing. Hey. When things went well, it was because of the excellence that was produced. It wasn't a onetime act. It was the habit seen on consecutive days that achieved or allowed for something. It also popped up because of some of the hotels taken from my daughter as well around what is important. And so that excellence ethos was a clear summary call out of learnings for the month. The 8th, resilient transformation quote here. The measure of intelligence is the ability to change by Albert Einstein.
The philosophy there is embrace change with resilience and adaptability by transforming challenges into opportunities we evolve and thrive in an ever changing world. There was bloody as always, as as every human out there, as every mere mortal has challenges. And there was there was occasions where I was able to be successful at turning that into not so much a positive, but at least try to be resilient to the fact. No sleeps on some particular days due to challenging, sleep schedule with our daughter. There was sickness that was trying to handle quite a lot of things from a business perspective that are happening. I found pockets of resilience, and it was a good reminder to really becoming resilient or transforming some of the mentality that we have around certain ideas, or defaults of the we find ourselves thinking into a more resilient individual.
That I do it all the time. Hell no. Right? That's why we're called to be models, but I do this all the time. But it was a key call out as well of, hey. That was a good learning. That was a good thing to happen. I wanna see more of it. And the last one last one here, precision in the particulars. Details create the big picture from Sanford L. Well, the philosophy, master the art of attention to detail to achieve excellence. In the meticulous crafting of the small, we build the foundation for grand achievements. And this one was more of a business context than it was, of other areas of my life, although it does apply, but it that's where it actually came from. And it's always the the keyword precision. Precision is such a key almost, like, secret tool that a lot of people apply. At least I'm talking here business, but, again, applies most other places in life.
To be precise, it's really challenging why for most individuals, but powerful. Why is it challenging? Because we often don't know exactly what we're either articulating, what our outcome is, what actually asking of someone. If you go to someone's workplace and you say, hey. I need you to do this by a particular date. That's pretty good. Right? We're talking about smart goals or very effective goal setting. Yeah. That's pretty good. But if you can get really precise in the, hey. I need you to do this by this date. This is what it looks like. This is what it might appear. This is the support that you can give. I need you to reply in this way. Right. The more precise and I'm not talking about micromanaging. I'm talking about just being really transparent and precise in the information that you're trying to provide. Right? But a well formed question is half the answer.
And being precise just worked really well this particular month as it has for many, many, many months years for myself or at least in the conversations that I have. But I went yeah. That was another clear call out of some of the notes that I was taking and form as part of the timeless wisdom from May. So, mere mortal lights. What did you think of this sort of session? I'm just talking through of my notes summarizing it. I I already do this. Once again, just presenting it out to individuals to either challenge me challenge me if you think that I'm incorrect. Am I talking too much in platitudes? Do you wanna see it in a little bit different? We try out different things here in the mere mortal mere mortal site. Let us know what you thought of today's session. Again, you can support us in many ways, time, talent, treasure, you could spend the time listening to this. You can talent. You can, again, communicate back and forth in the many channels that we have. Or if you enjoyed this or there's a better way to do it, treasure, you can send through a boostgram. You can stream through satoshis and all the good apps out there. Go see our support page on our website if you wanna see what all the details are about. But for now, I'm gonna leave it there, me and mortal art. I hope you're well wherever you are in the world. That was timeless wisdom. 1 out.
