It's time for our monthly check in where we review our goals from last month and see what's coming up for the next.
Do you set yourself monthly goals and if so, how many do you set? Juan and I on the first week of every month go over our progress from the previous month and where we are heading for the next. Emphasis as always is on the shortcomings; what we didn't achieve in the previous monthly goals and how we will fix that for the month that comes. We hope you get some value from this series, showcasing our own methodology. What do you do differently and why?

[00:00:09] Kyrin Down:
Mere Mortalites to another round of the mere mortals monthly goals. That's the 3 m's and the g. You've got Kyrin here in Brazil sick and coughing. Please excuse me. Hey. You're still sick. I became sick man. I think last weekend when we were chatting. Hi. So that was I was just tired of listening back to the episode. I went, oh, man, I could tell that I was operating off, like, 2 hours of sleep, 2 hours of really bad plane sleep. And which is funny because I even, they they gave me, like, an upgrade. So I wasn't in 1st class, but I was in, you know extra leg room only like 2 people beside me or something it was it was you know you had the ideal I had the space I had the space but it didn't didn't equate into better sleep so it's also kind of just made me go like well I I probably only ever do 1st class or cattle class, and I wouldn't bother for like additional, you know, extra room leg room or anything like that because it didn't didn't help in any way.
But yes, this is a monthly goals. This is where Juan and myself get together. And we talk about what happened in the last month. So that would have been in August of 2024. We talk about what's coming up in September of 2024. And we also go over a little bit of just thanking of supporters any additional extra stuff that doesn't fit into the normal podcast as well as some fitness stuff right at the end. As usual, we try and do these live right towards the end of the month. So we are live here. 5:15 Brazilian Standard Time, which is 7 and then or 6:15 am Australian Eastern Standard Time. Brisbane. Brilliant. Alright.
Enough pin, meanderings, stuffing around, Juan. Let's get into your goals for this last month and how you went.
[00:02:02] Juan Granados:
Well, yeah. So just quickly, 7 7 goals that I had for August 2024. And for those at home playing at home, I start the my annual my new annual goals, at the boundary of August, which is around my birthday. That's exciting. So this is the, yeah, the first first few goals. Although, it's interesting. It was exciting. It was exciting to set new annual goals, and then subsequently the monthly goals. But then there's a not a big but but maybe like a medium but is that I felt part of August, there was just a lot, there was a lot of ongoing, there was some changes in the way that I was working, there was just a lot of things to do in the month. And I almost felt like it was the it was the 1st month in a long time actually where I almost didn't relook at it and and kind of started forgetting some of the ones that I'd been connected to, which also meant I was forgetting some of the annual goals. And I was like, oh, man. That was just a really, really long time.
But but the 7 the 7 goals for for the month, just as a light recap, I was doing I did do a lot of the lightly, loading the lower back, for lower back raises, which which is good. It was good. It was good, but it also created some problems because doing that at the very beginning of every workout meant I had like a a little bit of a pump there. And so a lot of my movements were squats or some other Olympic lift, and it was like pre engaged, which was kind of a bad thing. But by the end of the month, I go, yeah, look, it's pretty good. Running, look, I continued it, but I must say, it's it's slowed down over the last week a bit. And that, again, that's probably more so just the time commitments than it is anything else. But look, enjoyed and did rent run-in some different surfaces, which was fun. What sort of surfaces?
[00:03:56] Kyrin Down:
Hey. What sort of surfaces?
[00:03:59] Juan Granados:
Oh, like rocky water, like a little bit of terrain, grass, that sort of thing. Like not just like asphalt
[00:04:07] Kyrin Down:
sidewalk, but but with normal shoes still on.
[00:04:11] Juan Granados:
Yeah, exactly. Which is different. It is different. I'll tell you, it does feel a little bit different to run it or something like that for a little while. It was, got the good start on the things needed for the wedding. So obviously, like, you'll see a lot of these things pop up over the next couple of monthly goals, but Mhmm. We lock sealed the deal on a photographer. Okay. And Karen. Yeah. I told you in terms of the prices that they'd begin, but I was kinda surprised that, you know, some of these prices, and this is Australian, the general consensus, like if you ask people, it's like, oh yeah, 20 grand's pretty good price. And I was just shocked, man. Shocked, I'm just tight assed, so I couldn't believe it. But the I've got a tight ass story from today as well. I'll relate it. Oh, really? Oh, lovely.
The, the 2 items I just did not complete at all was I wanted to create some apparel to give to Chris Williamson from the October. He's coming in. Right.
[00:05:04] Kyrin Down:
October is coming in.
[00:05:07] Juan Granados:
I thought maybe it was November. Okay. I think it's November. Actually, I think it's over. Okay. That's true. That's true. Modern wisdom. So I need those trips. So I put together a design man, like a new design. I was gonna order it, and I was like, I wanna shift it, and I reviewed it like a couple days later, and it was just barrel. I was like, no way, what the fuck? Why am I gonna put that together? In the end, I think I've locked in something of what I wanna do, but I just didn't get it done in August. So I'll I'll give myself a fat now on that one. And then the other one that I just did not was playing around with the content to try out new presentation styles for the podcast and shorts. So this was the podcast for the meanderings, from both the mere mortals normal episodes and book reviews, I didn't get to do a single one. I did not get to do a single one. I didn't do nothing.
There was no podcast created, no book reviews done, so that one's gonna be definitely moved into the next month. There's a whole whole more time going to be freed up, which is kind of nice. So that's that sort of came out for me. The August dolls, at least those 2 that fell short. Okay. Well, not not the most fantastic, but
[00:06:17] Kyrin Down:
not the worst either. At least you got a little bit of things done. No. No. If I, look, if I had to
[00:06:23] Juan Granados:
in amongst a lot of those goals, which is interesting again, we find this and I could actually pull up, you know, my monthly goals from 3 years ago, 4 years ago type of deal. And if I reviewed some of those monthly goals, it's funny to see that I'm either like crushing doing even more than that nowadays. So I think it's always worth mentioning or a reminder that when you see monthly goals, you're trying to get 1% better or do something new that you haven't necessarily maybe done before, or, you know, you're trying to reinvigorate something. So I don't know, man. I think as we as we go on, as we do more of these or, you know, you personally look into them, you'll find that someone will be just like, oh, what? They're either gonna be maybe not even and no longer monthly available to complete or it's a little bit like you, you know, it feels like, oh, yeah, I didn't get a few of these done. But in the end, you now have so many extra things that you'll miss have to, which, you know, you've done in the past. It's like reducing other things to make it happen.
[00:07:23] Kyrin Down:
Yeah. Yeah. For sure. Let's talk about the differences as we get older, in the in the kind of like boostagram type section because, there's some things I wanted to say. But, yeah, I'll go into mine. August 2024 goals. I'm gonna say a lot of this just got kind of thrown out the window with big changes of plans to I mean, it's it was only a week. Look, it was only a week that I stayed longer in Canada, but it felt like a lot. It it changed a lot of things. So, while while I was in the US and Canada, I actually didn't really try approaching anyone and being silly. I did meet a German girl in the hostel. I was at stay open and chat with her every now and then. So that's that's probably the closest I did to any, like, approaching.
But I did have a great time with everyone. So, you know, that was that was just in there just to be in there, to be honest. Don't let money be the issue for a unique opportunity. Yeah. Look, whilst I was there, whilst I was very aware of the price discrepancies between there and Brazil, for example, but it didn't stop me from buying things. I think I put in the the chapter art from the last episode. There was a, a milkshake. I got one in in Venice Beach. How much do you think this milkshake cost? How large was it? I'd say it was probably, I was gonna hold a bottle up to the screen, but you're not watching. I'd probably say the size of a boost juice cup if I had to guess. I don't know like I'll say I'll say $9.50 is Charlie. Yeah. No. It was $20 at least. $20.
$20. Yeah. And, I just went like this is this is absurd, but whatever. Like, my friend told me, like, you gotta try out these milkshakes from here. So I went to there and tried it out and went, it was an okay milkshake, but it wasn't worth $20. But
[00:09:22] Juan Granados:
I was going to say for $20, man, you expect that to be the king's
[00:09:26] Kyrin Down:
king's. Yeah. Yeah. The best gold flakes you would taste it. I am mentally preparing myself for for a shock when I get back to Australia because I think in, you know, roughly the 6 months since I was last there and really buying groceries and and all that sort of things, I I I'm I'm just mentally preparing myself for prices to have gone up more than I more than I thought they would or more than I expected. They have actually gone up quite dramatically, man. Yeah, I'm frank. I mean, a lot of people talk about it across the world, but yeah, of course, yeah, like it is actually very, very, very, very noticeable. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. Inflation's a hell of a thing. I'll, we'll do, I'll do a rant on that sometime. Get started on some tax work.
I actually did a little bit of this whilst I was traveling because I had some time at stay open, hostel when I was in Los Angeles, but not too much. You'll see this carried on to the next one. Watch coach Bachman bids and continue daily morning stretching. I will tick that off. I think I did that pretty good. Get rid of all unneeded apps after finishing travel. I have done that. As soon as I got back to to Brazil, I actually even saw it in my own brain. It's like, oh, you know, you could keep this one. You might need it. And then I went, nah, go on. Go on, go on, go, go on. So I got rid of, I think, like, 10 in a row, man. It was great. It was just freeing. It felt freeing.
[00:10:50] Juan Granados:
Book and plan the real. What was that? That was just like the usual, like Instagram, Twitter, that sort of thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Instagram, Twitter.
[00:10:58] Kyrin Down:
What else was I using? I think I downloaded like an Apple 2 that I needed for bloody traveling, you know, metro apps and just just random shit, man. Stuff that I didn't I didn't, you know, didn't really need. Book and plan the Rio de Janeiro trip, due to some changes, in circumstances, that trip is probably not gonna be going on. I will talk about that more in the meanderings episode that comes after this. And while even in the in the next goals that come up, but essentially that's that's probably not gonna happen so big no on that one try cutting out the drawers and hers didn't even think about it honestly and then investigate the Samba capoeira 22 times yoga per week and finish the book all trash none of them none of them got done.
So not not a good not a good end there. August was a just haphazard month to be honest. All of these goals I kind of put in just being like if any of this gets done, that's good. But, yeah, not not too much. I'm gonna do a big cough in the second one. So before I do that, I just wanted to ask you, how do you think these goals and monthly goals and stuff will change in the future? Do you think we would ever get to a point where we're, you know, 40 and just going like, do we even need to do this?
[00:12:21] Juan Granados:
That's a good question. I think the answer is no. But I think the answer's no because I think I've already had those particular thoughts in my mind maybe a few times maybe 4 times 5 times in the time that I've been doing it. Like in reviewing a monthly, you know, there might be like one that's coming towards the end of an annual goal. And I'm like, I don't know which other monthly goals. Sometimes I've had the thought where you're just starting to feel a little bit like a chore. Is it something that I really, really want to put together? Or should I just kinda relax 1 month that turns 2 months, it turns to 6 months, and then that's it. I'm not doing it again. But and this is similar to training for me, which is, one of the things actually, once again, popped up in, like, my little summary that I was doing for for my months that I I normally do with my notes.
And once again, it is obvious for me, but once again, the days that I didn't go train in the morning because I thought, no, I'm gonna sleep in. I need to rest a little bit more. And I'm feeling terrible and not feeling worse. You know, I should have gotten up earlier, I should just go on train would have solved like every other feeling that I have, and be more positive. It's kind of similar with the monthly goals, where I go, the times where I do do it, it's either neutral or good. So towards the things I care about, which normally they're all the annual goals, I really put a lot of thought into them. I really wanna pursue them, do them, complete them, Supports the full imminent human being sort of you, whatever you wanna call it. But in at the very least, sometimes the monthly goals, it can be neutral because maybe you don't do them. Right?
Or or you do them and they didn't really improve that much, but it's neutral or or positive. And I generally tend to track me towards a negative result. Whereas when think twice, when I didn't have any monthly goals, it was, you know, through the month, I could be doing things that were great. And, you know, that doesn't change. Right? It's, it's totally different. But there wasn't as quantifiable view of oh, yeah, yeah. No. I did try to progress against this particular thing. I had to, like, really think hard, maybe review other notes. And so again, I kind of go without any, it was it was neutral or then the tendency to be bad because maybe I move myself away from the things I do wanna do or I forget. And I need that helpful reminder of, yes, when one sat down, and he wasn't emotionally, it was rational. And he was thinking deeply. Yeah, I should have been doing this. So with that, I go, I think I've got that underlying mentality. And so I would see myself just continuing continuing it throughout the years. Maybe it would change. Maybe it would shorten.
Maybe it wouldn't be as detailed. But for now, I can only say that I've got some reason as to why that would be something I would continue for a very, very long time. Councilman to train. Yeah. Nice. What about you? No. I think you
[00:15:22] Kyrin Down:
put that perfectly better better than I could have or was thinking. The only thing I wanted to add to that was just the, you know, the kind of impact of age. I don't know if it's because I've just had really bad sleep these last 3 or 4 nights just waking up constantly just just, you know, dehydrated or whatever. Nose blocked. I've noticed like these these kind of like patches just underneath my eyes. It's like these, it's like right on the cheekbone. It's almost like I'm bruised. I'm wondering if I'm like, was laying on my head into the pillow while I'm sleeping or something. And I'm just like, oh, shit, man. Like, yeah, I'm I'm I'm kind of like properly getting old.
The the I saw saw a post on on Twitter before I was banned from it, by the Brazilian government saying something like, yeah, the the thirties is when it's a weird decade when you you really start to feel that little bit of mortality creeping in. The more, you know, we were just Mia before in our Twitter in our twenties. But now we're now we're in our thirties, we're starting to feel that mortality, the mortals coming, ticking in. And I could absolutely well see the the goals changing in the sense that, you know, it'll it'll be something like, I want to, you know, be be nice to the shitty kid that my friend that my kid is friends with, something like that. Yeah. No. And it'll be like, what kind of goal is that? That's, you know, that's that's silly. It's it's it's almost not even a goal. But I think I think it's these are always a good way of showcasing where our attention is at at the very least and in protect in particular attention where it's where it's we're not doing the greatest where we realize like okay yeah I could do a little bit better than this. It's almost like a it's like a self reflection in in almost a negative sense in that it's like, okay, this is this is where I can do better. I know I can do better at this and this is how I'm going to try and be better at it.
Whereas our our normal episodes are more, you know, they can be completely unrelated to us or it's more just beliefs or ideas that we have. So, yeah, that that was just that little little rambling section there that came through my brain. You still there, 1? I am. Okay. Brilliant. Yeah. That was that was just me done.
[00:17:47] Juan Granados:
It was waiting for you to say something. I thought you're still thinking go say something else. No. No. No. Yeah. Yeah. No. Good rambling. I like it. But it is true. Age age does change a couple of things. And and look, we'll start in September we'll start in September, 2024 goals, and and you'll see it once again, right? At least, this won't be a forever thing, but for anyone who's seen us talking about fitness and training and my section on body, it's always been, you know, in the past, I'm gonna go and hit this lift, this type of strength, this type of power, this swimming, this length of running. And lo and behold, my first one for September is, you know, at every gym workout, I'm introducing 5 extra minutes each beginning to do rotator
[00:18:31] Kyrin Down:
cuff movements. Oh, he's he's at that stage.
[00:18:35] Juan Granados:
Exactly. So and I kinda call this out in the annual goals is the this particular year. Yes. Am I gonna be doing, you know, training and other type of stuff? Yeah, of course. I in fact have started to get a few new, PBs on the Olympic lifts, which has been actually quite fun. And the reason that's been actually really fun is because I have my strength is totally there. Now for Olympic lifting, you need more more power and strength. However, I've noticed that my technique has started to improve. And with that now the lifts that I'm doing are becoming easier, smoother, and in turn, able to lift more, which is really good fun with like, you know, these days, I said in our 30s, man, it's really hard to get some new new personal bests that you might have done when you're in early 20s. But at the very least this whole year, I'm trying to focus on solidifying a lot of the joints, a lot of the little niggly things that have overwhelming odds to knock me down. So anyway, so this month for the first goal there, it's gonna be the rotator cuff. So a lot of just different type of prehab movements, if you'd like.
So that's the first one. Mhmm. By the way, overall, I've got 8 goals that I'm gonna talk about here for the September goals. So that's my first one. Second one, I'm going to so this is specifically tracking towards sleep. I'm gonna be limiting my phone usage. So strictly half an hour before bed, no no phone unless an emergency. So this is obviously attributing to just light, light pollution and the like. Look, I do this. At the moment, 20 percent of the time, let's just say by default, either because I'll be reading, or, you know, it will just be having a chat with my partner. But most of the other time, I'm either watching a TV show or we're I'm on my phone. So specifically, I'm not gonna suggest that I might remove the TV shows. Sometimes we just do that and then we go to bed. But phone usage, very specifically, very strictly half hour before bed, no phone begins literally from today, which will be good. So hold me to that. If I'm messaging someone, and see me, it's like after 8 o'clock or something, someone better be telling me like, you know, are you about to sleep? Someone to call me out.
In any case, those are the 2 for the body. 2 for the mind that I'm gonna carry over is just create the apparel, first crucial limping, and the play around with the content, try out new presentation. So I'm gonna call myself out. I'm gonna call myself out so that I can be present in what I'm gonna do. I'm going to try, I'm gonna try, create a monthly show summary for August. I'm gonna try and do a book review. And I'm also gonna try and have 2 interviews at home to try and play around with this presentation styles and podcasts and shorts and all this sort of stuff. So we'll see we'll see how that develops, but definitely trying to get at least that level of content to get back into it. The other 2 in the mind category, as you mentioned, Karen, yeah, I'm completing tax returns and Oh,
[00:21:39] Kyrin Down:
no. Improvements.
[00:21:41] Juan Granados:
Man, as as Karen very well knows, every year, my tax situation becomes more complex, more and more complex, to the point now that I think I have an email from the accountant. And I kid you not, there would have been, there would have been over 90 questions on this email that I have to respond to or provide data to. And I think I've been replying in pieces, like I think I've sent through 5 emails so far with different data points and different replies. And I still gotta keep going. So, you know, there's there's a there's some time there's some time that's needing to be set up for that, but at the same time, improving that account movement. By that, I mean, there's certain things I can also do with automation just on movement of of money, but also how I'm doing things for tax time so that it does become easier and easier into the future.
And the final one in the mind is the one race session per week. So I haven't found time to really be using much of my sim racing over the last couple of weeks. That's fine. That makes sense. There's a little bit more time and so I'm just putting it down. I'll do one race session per week. Just finding the time to enjoy a bit of a drive at home. The last 2. So one is I'm going to book in the entertainment for the wedding and finalize that plan for all the days at least around the wedding ceremony and everything else around it. The I don't know yet what the entertainment looks like. Karen stripper, there's a couple of ideas flooding our mind from getting a and I'm doing here specifically bouncy castle.
We've had multiple different thoughts here from classical music to rock band style music to a DJ coming in, man. Let's get Joey.
[00:23:30] Kyrin Down:
Nonstop t pain.
[00:23:33] Juan Granados:
That's true. I'll just I imagine if we we yeah. That would be pretty fun. It would just it would just be constant t pain the entire time. That might be something that seals the deal. But I know and the so the last one here on the Soul, the 8th goal is just to reflect daily. So one of the things you've you'll see me, probably do a lot with these monthly goals in the Soul that I've, over the years really determined is the best way to help me out with these, to connections, especially this whole one's when it's to do with feelings or emotions or tracking how I'm thinking again, when I put down goals, it's how, you know, you get better with your connections or connect with these people. It doesn't help. Like, running that goal for me does not help at all in me actually pursuing the action. But when I reflect on my daily journal on a how did I do on this particular thing?
It reinforces the maybe not exactly on that day, before the next day that I'm going to review my day and I'm going to think about that. So it does help even more to, in the moment, be reflective of what I'm trying to do. For this one, it's the relationships that I helped either strengthen or it lacked. And this this case is one of the, you know, goals around just improving relationships, and that's with the people that I care about once again. You know? I've noticed over the and we'll probably talk about it this morning to in meandrics, but, yeah, just just the connections that you wanna strengthen and continue, yeah, applying energy to and the ones that just you can't, and that's just the reality. But those are the September 2024,
[00:25:08] Kyrin Down:
girls are really just pre happy, sleeping better, and taking some actions to progress forward on a couple of things. I love that you always bring these daily ones back and and you you never seem to get them right. The only times I've tried to do daily ones, I'm like, this is too hard, man. They doing things daily is is whack. But no, I hope you hope you have success with that one. That sounds good. All righty my september goals so the first one create a list of terracotta flags to be more picky so you might be asking kyrm what's a terracotta flag
[00:25:43] Juan Granados:
Yeah, like what terracotta flag? Do you know what a beige flag is? 1? A beige flag? Yeah. This is the like, this is related to dating in relation to like the, like, you know, a red flag or a green flag beige flag looks like when it's boring. A beige flag is when it's it's no it's not necessarily boring. It's when someone
[00:26:02] Kyrin Down:
has a like a hobby or something which is odd. It's weird. It doesn't reflect on their character per se. It's nothing that reflects badly on them, but it's it's certainly odd. So if you, got a girlfriend and she is obsessed with making crocheting kitten, kitten paw, gloves and forcing them on on like, you know, little kittens or if you've got a guy who is, you know, every time that he, enters the shower, he'll he'll yell out like cowabunga dude or something like it's it's nothing related to their personality to how they treat each other or anything like that. It's just weird. Well, I was I was, kind of reflecting on on just the last couple of years of of, how my, like, relationships with women has been going and things like this. And I realized, you know what?
You waste a lot of time, going on dates with girls, which honestly, if you'd just been a little bit more picky, you wouldn't have wasted that time. And, and and I was thinking like, okay, well, what what is it that I'm I'm kind of lacking then? Because I still did it. I still went on the dates with them. And the the things that I came up with is I think I've got a fairly strong set of red flags, which, of of behavior, which I'd I'd find unacceptable or which would cue me in really rapidly like, oh, okay, this is this is not the the girl for me. I think even yellow flags is is the typical thing that you could might you might say is is is like this, where it's it's like, okay, you know, this it's not necessarily a deal breaker. You might have found them on a bad day, but it's something to keep in mind. And if, you know, these accumulators stack up and then you should probably do something.
I think those I've I've kind of got those 2 in my head pretty solidly. But there's things which I'm calling terracotta flags, and I call it terracotta because I I I asked, Venice AI what was what's in between a red flag and a beige flag? And it's like, oh, you know, there's these ones and terracotta sounded like it fit the best. And the terracotta flag, in my opinion, is something that for other people, they're not gonna they're not it's not gonna bother them. They'll even probably think that it's it. Yeah. Maybe sure it's just odd or it's just it's just like a part of life. It's something to accept. Whereas for me, I'm I'm it it drives me insane and is almost the equivalent of a red flag. An example of this would be if they show up to a date 10 minutes later, than than the original time, I'm I'm going to put that as a hard no now. It's like you you gotta you just gotta go to rock up on time lady. Like if if you can't do that, I'm out and I've you know for for other people that wouldn't bother them for you I doubt that would bother you you'd just rock up and then you'd maybe just spend some time on your phone or something But it it really it really bothers me.
And so so I'm just gonna I'm gonna create a little list of this of being things where it's like I need to be pickier on this and is this will stop me wasting time because I felt like I wasted a lot of time, in these last couple of years. So that's that's my to do list for while I'm here in Brazil, because I'm not looking for a girl here. As explained in previous episodes where it's like, I'm not going to find the future wife here in Brazil. All right. Moving on. Make the low the most of my last of Brazil in New Zealand time. So once again, this is, as I said, kind of a closing chapter of my life. We'll see my family in 3 weeks time. So in 3 weeks I'll be out of Brazil, then I'll spend 2 weeks in New Zealand, and then then kind of back in Australia in the thick of it again.
And I want to make the most of this time because, time is fleeting, my friend. It's, who knows when the last time I'll be able to go out, do things on my own again, travel around how I want to. And I I I yeah, this is almost a daily type one, and it's just like just just do some reflection, man. You know, just just try and try and eke out these last bits of joy of, of really appreciating the moment because there's a good chance you'll never be in Brazil again. But, you know, who who knows? Why would I I come back? Lucas is here. I've got, I I do enjoy it here, but things can change in life, and it's a hell of a long way from Australia. So, make the most of that. Finish the tax work like you. I'd really like to get this done and just out of the way before I get back so I don't have to kind of like be screwing around with that. Have that in your life continuously. Yeah. Yeah. I start my yearly goals in October. I'd really love to just land on the 5th October whenever it is back in Australia and just hit the ground running. So I don't want to deal with that. So really, really going to try and get that done before I leave here.
Sorry. I want to create a brand new strategy for the next serious one arm handstand attempt. This last year has been a pretty it's it's been close to a write off or not a write off. I have stayed level. I have neither improved nor nor nor particularly downgraded in my in my training. A lot of this was obviously due to traveling and that just messes things up. And also just everything going on with mum also combined to that. I'm even though right at this moment, I feel kind of shit because I'm sick. I think I'm in a pretty good shape in terms of I'm not near personal best or anything, but I'm also not I'm not like broken like I felt I was probably 3 months, 6 months, 9 months ago. So I really, really want to get get serious again and and have another crack at this. And, my friends who have been, particularly Brendan, he said it took him like a good 3 or 4 attempts of really getting after it until he's until he started having some success and and getting it. So, that's that's kind of what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna do completely quit crypto YouTube. I've for reasons. Oh, yeah. Completely. Yeah. For reasons I have been consuming a lot of, mostly bitcoin, but also crypto related content over these last this last month. That's financial stuff. So I'll speak about that later. Probably off the podcast. But I'm gonna I'm just gonna unsubscribe from all of these things that I've been watching. It's not great for my health. And I've been watching it too, too intently. So gonna do that. I also have to mentally prepare myself for for not training when I do this mandatory trip, which is hopefully next week.
My I guess like final final trip here, with with Lucas to to his family, a potential beach trip. The reason I don't want to go to Rio is, I was I was planning on going there just because, like, everyone goes there. And then I realized, like, oh, you know, it'd be much better to go with Lucas and his girlfriend. That that is what would make that trip for me. I would really enjoy it then. He's not able to make it anymore. So I was I was looking it up and I'm going like, sure, I can go there, but, you know, I'm not the biggest beach lover. Most of the hostels there appear to be party hostels.
Once again, not not particular of interest to me. What would be my reason going other than saying that I've gone to Rio de Janeiro. And that, you know, similar to like the Montreal trip where it was just like that that was almost forced upon me. This one is not forced upon me. I don't have to do it. And it's just more travel, more dicking around, and, and I'm just kind of like, no. Lucas has proposed perhaps doing a beach trip, so something not as serious. We can we can drive instead of flying and things like this. So I was like, okay, maybe we can fit that in just before I leave.
And then obviously during the Kiwi trip, I'm going to be with my family. So it's kind of linked in with the second goal. Make the blows most of the last Brazil and New Zealand time. It's like, yeah, don't don't be overly neurotic about trying to train every single day because you don't you don't have to. And that's honestly, it's probably better to come back to Australia a little bit refreshed. Much like this, this trip to the US has done to me. I've come back, haven't had any pain in the wrist or anything because I just let my body heal. Wow. Amazing. Last 2 here is just ask more questions. So if I'm, this is related to just communication and things like this, improving communication.
I've noticed I've I've just I've started talking more about myself, especially, and I used to be a lot more of a listener and, and, asking questions. And I just realized the other day, I've met, like, man, I'm just waiting to tell my stories. This is I I should get out of this. So I'm gonna ask more questions. And then the final one, finish this book here. Capa Times dot ai. I gotta do it. I will do it. It's gonna get done. Alright. That's it. That's my goals. Good. I have worked. I like it. I like it. I have worked on my, I've done like a little rough draft of my annual goals for next year. That'll be fun. I think we'll probably save that until we're we're back in person again. So until we're back together. Yeah, that'll be good. Yeah. So, we'll save that for early October.
But, yeah, that that'll be fun to go through and, you'll, you'll see. That's yeah there's some changes in my in in probably how I'm approaching it and even though it'll still have the same structure the underlying intent will be a bit different than than perhaps this last last couple of years so look forward to that last little thing here. 1, you already talked a little bit about your fitness, but is there anything else you wanted to add? You you said you're hitting some PBs. That's awesome. I haven't hit PBs for, jeez, since, since April.
[00:36:35] Juan Granados:
1. Well, the only thing that will add, and I don't know what this is called, man, although, you know, someone called it out. I've been doing just fun, like fun ring work, I guess you would call it. And I was been doing the only the only reason I'm calling this out is because people started coming over to me and talking to me about it. So that's literally the only reason I'm talking about it because maybe it was interesting. But I was my training's been good in that I'm just making it work that I don't get injured. Like, I'm I'm at I'm at pushing it right to the limit in in a good way. But I was doing paused bench pressing, followed up by, you know, that move where I kind of like lie completely flat on the ground facing forward. And then from that position, get myself into a handstand.
[00:37:18] Kyrin Down:
Yeah, I guess you'd call it a bent on a bent on press is for anyone who wants Yeah, because I've been time for us. So
[00:37:25] Juan Granados:
so it was like that with some bent on pressing and then going over to do some ring work. And the guy was calling the camera he was like, Oh, you were doing candlesticks on the rings. Like he was candlesticks and like pulled up l sits or something that he was saying anyways, I was just fucking tossing around. But it's been really good. Lots of PVs on the on other movements that I haven't seen for a long time. But, but, and I will say this is the big but right about age. I'm always sore now, man. I was talking about this with my partner. Dom's now don't don't leave me, and my legs just don't recover. Now, I will make a caveat. I'm currently squatting 4 times per week minimum.
So there's probably something to that. Probably. But, yeah, my legs are always consistently, like, loaded, like, fatigued to the point that it's a week end. And I took a couple of days on actually this week and my legs are still like really really badly cooked. So I don't know I don't know if it's age or just the type of training I'm doing at the moment, but in any case it has been good. It has been really good. Yeah. Nice. Nice, man. That's that's awesome to hear. I I hope to be joining you soon. You talked about
[00:38:38] Kyrin Down:
loading, you know, you'd you'd almost doing more now than ever. So I started this little thing here of, my potential week when I when I get back. Like, what's the kind of week that I'd I'd love to get back into? You know, fresh start. I can create a routine for myself, and I I I created this little potential week. I'm just holding it up to the camera now, and I'm kind of like just going through here, like, oh, okay. You know, I've split it up into a morning midday arvo and evening for each of the days, and and then just chuck some stuff in there. And I'm like, alright. Yeah. Well, you know, I'd really love to train most days.
I'll probably do it at total fusion. So that'll be, you know, just in the afternoons how I normally do. Oh, yeah. I'd like to try and get in a couple of, like, evening Pilates and yoga, something like that. Oh, man. There's a I've I've really been really still wanting to, like, just stretch out. I've been enjoying doing these morning stretchings again, so I'll probably do that. But then I I also really need to work on my legs because I haven't done much leg work for a while. And so I, like, ended up just creating this thing, and I'm like, oh god. This what have I done? This is this thing is absolutely massive. I've I've basically put myself in for, like, 8 days a week of hard training plus plus stretching.
And I'm already going like, alright. Well, I'm just gonna keep this at the moment and and have a look see, but we'll we'll I'm I'm not too sure this is doable.
[00:40:08] Juan Granados:
So the the I love when you put the I love when you put together a plan, especially on paper. Yeah. The oh, I'm in, it's great on paper. It's a 12 weeks, so, and you're like, once you reflect on it, because you add, you know, you add a little bit of this and you gotta add this, now you gotta do this maybe a little movement, yeah, you're 3 hours deep every day, double days, I'm crazy. You're like, oh, okay, no, this is not actually practice. This thing looks great on paper.
[00:40:30] Kyrin Down:
I also was like, all right. So this is how I'll set it up. No. Ground fingertip, 1 arm, handstand, hold a Mexican work. Monday, Tuesday, block 1 arm, handset reps and wrist prehab, hands and factory grip program. Wednesday ground 1 arm handsets and ab hold feasts straddle and then I'm like just going through all these things that's like oh kara and you just try to do everything like you normally do. Well all right well how about you try that for a month and then you then you'll realize like that's probably not doable. So with all of that being said, there is going to be a constant narrowing in a focus to, what is on your screen here. And, so you'll see on the screen I've I've got up the the 4 the 4 kind of exercise challenges that we did for, when was that starting 2020.
So 2020 and 21 and then 22, 23, 24. And I I didn't really do one for this year. I was just like, all right, I'm just gonna try and tick off some of these here. And you can see I filled out most of the first three, but there's big chunks, big gaps in this last one. And that's just all one arm handstand stuff, man. And it's like, okay, I need to, I need, this is what I need to do, you know? Don't get, don't get distracted by the straddle press. You, you, you got it, you didn't get it on, you only got on parallettes, you didn't get it on blocks or, or, on the ground. That's fine. Just leave it. You know, you don't need to do planche work. Just let's, let's hone in on this one arm handstand. That's, that's, you keep on talking about it, but you're not, you're not showing it the, the respect it deserves. So that's, that's kind of what I'll be focusing on, at least for for this kind of next year. But for this month, it's it's also like, all right, just try and chill out a bit and not go too crazy.
So that is, that's it for the monthly goals here for the for the mere mortals. As usual, we, try and try and give you an insight into how we operate, the things we do, why we do them. You've got, this is a value for value podcast, so we just really appreciate your support. We kind of skipped it out in that middle section. Then I do the, the tally up of of all the support we receive across our multiple podcasts in, every quarter. So next month, I will update that, and hopefully, we'll be able to slide that in right right around the the time that it, that we actually do the monthly goals for for next month. We do really appreciate your support. If you can go to me and mortals podcast.com/support, you can find the ways you can do that monetarily. And then even just sharing this with a friend or, letting us know what your monthly goals are, will be very much appreciated. Just don't do it via Twitter for me for the next month because I will not respond.
[00:43:19] Juan Granados:
Yeah, I ain't gonna see it. No.
[00:43:22] Kyrin Down:
But yeah, that's it. 1. Let's take it out and then we'll do a mianerings episode right after this.
[00:43:28] Juan Granados:
Beautiful appreciate it everyone who's been listening in around the world and the immortal lines I hope you well one out out
