[00:00:36] Unknown:
let's get into it. Now let's dive into today's episode.
[00:00:43] Brodie:
You know what that was from? No. So if you search for Tidewater Talk in in, podcast
[00:00:52] Co:
app,
[00:00:53] Brodie:
you'll probably come up with this, TPMG Health Talk podcast. It's, Tidewater seen it. Yeah. Tidewater Physicians oh, now I can't see where it is.
[00:01:06] Co:
Group or something? Yeah.
[00:01:08] Brodie:
Tidewater Physicians multi specialty group. So I listened to an episode or two. Seems interesting. They're talking about the different, health things in our area. Uh-huh. But I took that clip from them. Okay. I thought it would be fun to throw in right there. Yep. Because I remember I was saying that everything I listen to, it seems like they say, now let's get into this. Now let's get. Oh. And then they do it to
[00:01:38] Co:
this. Let's get into this.
[00:01:40] Brodie:
Well, I mean, something similar. What does this Now let's dive into today's episode.
[00:01:45] Co:
Yeah. Oh, okay. Dive in. Get in. Dive in.
[00:01:49] Brodie:
Same. Same. They all got something. It's funny. Alright. So I stole that from them.
[00:01:59] Co:
We borrowed it. We're we're just using it. Yeah.
[00:02:04] Brodie:
I was looking at the at Facebook this week, and I see lots of people talking about foxes in the area. They see foxes around their houses and stuff, mostly out in Chesapeake. But, so looking it up, it's denning season.
[00:02:22] Co:
And Well, what does that mean?
[00:02:24] Brodie:
Means that the foxes are building their little houses so that they can have their kits. Okay. And I saw on this other Facebook, group, now I'm gonna lose which group it was, or animals group. And it says, if you suddenly see a fox in the yard near your home, there's a good reason for it. It's denning season. Between the January through early April, a mother fox will give birth to between four and five kids. A coyote will often find the fox den, dig out the babies, and kill them. Mother fox knows this and will frequently choose a den site close to people away from where coyotes generally go. So that's kinda why they're in our neighborhoods right now instead of out in the, further in the wilderness away from people.
[00:03:16] Co:
I didn't know that fox puppies were called kids. Really? No. So I learned something.
[00:03:25] Brodie:
Yeah. Didn't you ever watch, Fox and the Hound? That Disney movie? Yeah. So long ago. And the fox's name was Kit.
[00:03:36] Co:
I probably just thought that was I don't know. I don't I don't remember that.
[00:03:43] Brodie:
Says, please offer them a short term rental because this is not a permanent situation. If you're lucky enough to see how beautiful an adult fox is or witness the kids playing, at a distance, of course, you'll be glad you did. It's not uncommon for red foxes to change dens several times during the season, so you may not see them for long.
[00:04:07] Co:
I won't mess with them, but I don't want them here. Right. Yeah.
[00:04:12] Brodie:
Says, please do not yeah. Go ahead.
[00:04:15] Co:
No. There's just something about having wild animals so close to me. I I'm not into it at all. Didn't you have a bear or something? Yeah. I had a bear in my driveway that we caught on the Ring camera that was, like, just hanging out. And I think it was the same bear because, different people in my neighborhood would post online, like, their Ring camera footage, and it looked to be about the same size. You know, it wasn't a full adult bear, but not, like, a small baby bear. Mhmm. But I think that bear was around her for, like, a month.
[00:04:50] Brodie:
A month?
[00:04:52] Co:
Yeah. I didn't go outside for my walk in the morning for the whole time and a little bit after.
[00:05:00] Brodie:
What your dog do?
[00:05:02] Unknown:
Go in the backyard. It's like, good luck out there, dog.
[00:05:08] Brodie:
Funny. Says, please do not call a service to relocate them because they'll often be killed. If you see a fox during the day, it does not mean she is rabid. Mother fox works tirelessly to feed her kits and will often be out during daylight hours foraging for food. That was from, Peaceful Planet on Facebook. But I didn't realize that if you called the animal control that they'd just kill them.
[00:05:40] Co:
No. We tried to call animal control when we had that bear issue, and they were like, there's nothing we can do. If you have bird feeders, don't fill them. But they wouldn't even come out for it.
[00:05:54] Brodie:
I did know that they would kill bears if you call them. Because, I lived in Colorado Breckenridge, Colorado for a while, and there was a bear that kept coming into our neighborhood. And Mhmm. We'd call animal control, and they would say, you don't want us to come out there because we're gonna kill it. Like, oh, yeah. We'll try to put up our trash bins better and our bird feeders and stuff. But yeah. I think they ended up having to come out for one of them, though. Yeah. It was sad.
[00:06:31] Co:
Yeah. Well, I'll shift gears a little bit. This one's about, Virginia task force two, and they are gonna receive a $3,000,000 reimbursement. So let me give you some background. During natural disasters such as hurricane Helene and Milton, One local team continuously showed up to help those in need near and far, and now they're set to receive a major reimbursement. City of Virginia Beach is set to receive more than 3,000,000 on behalf of the Virginia task force too. And the money will go towards helping communities in crisis. The team's made up of highly trained firefighters, EMS crews, engineers, and physicians who work together to ensure the safety of the community.
So pretty cool that they're getting some, money back for that. Yeah. Yeah. So so, apparently, FEMA has, like, 28 different urban search and rescue teams that are scattered about the country, and the Virginia Beach Fire Department is one of them or is part of one of them. Gotcha. Yeah. That's awesome. And so when they, had all the efforts going on after the hurricanes, this past, hurricane season, they went out and helped, you know, with all that stuff, and now they're getting reimbursed for that. Oh, cool.
[00:08:01] Brodie:
Yeah. That's really cool. Man, that'd be fun to be on one of those teams that just goes when you need it when you're needed.
[00:08:10] Co:
I don't know about fun. No? I mean, no.
[00:08:14] Brodie:
I used to fight forest fires, so it was it was just so fun to just go to see different places and hang out.
[00:08:23] Co:
Yeah. But under those circumstances, like, when stuff's on fire and you're running towards danger.
[00:08:29] Brodie:
Yeah. The people are so thankful, though. So it's so Yeah. It's so fun to just go and help. I don't know. I like I can see that. Yeah. We'd go drive into a town where there's a fire close by, and there would be signs along the highway and people out there clapping. And Like, yeah. We'll get it out.
[00:08:53] Co:
Yeah. I can Oh, this is I can see that part of it being fun, but, like, the work itself and the danger
[00:09:02] Brodie:
Yeah. I enjoyed it. So much fun.
[00:09:05] Co:
Okay.
[00:09:07] Brodie:
No. I did. It sound I don't know. It just seems like cool that they would call you up and say, come out and help these people in, Asheville. And then we're getting paid back. That's great. Probably buy some new equipment and,
[00:09:25] Co:
Yeah. I think they said that it was going back into communities, but I think there was
[00:09:32] Brodie:
Like the rail trail?
[00:09:34] Co:
Oh, well, I don't know. No. I don't know.
[00:09:37] Brodie:
So I was looking at there's a rail have you ever seen those things where they dig up, old railroad ties and build a trail for people to walk on and, ride bikes on and stuff.
[00:09:52] Co:
I haven't seen, like, the process being done, but I've seen, like, a wrecked trail.
[00:09:57] Brodie:
Yeah. So there's been one planned in Virginia Beach and through it goes all the way out to Chesapeake and up around to Norfolk. It's, it's seemed like one of those, projects that's always four years out. You know?
[00:10:16] Co:
Right.
[00:10:17] Brodie:
Like, the Hampton Bridge Tunnel is always under construction. It'll be done in four years, then the next year. Yeah. It'll be done in four years. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. It's four years out still. It's like okay. So I thought this was one of those when I first heard about it, but, there's part of it goes right by my house, and they're actually building it, taking up the rails and pouring right now, they're burying culverts and pouring, gravel along it.
[00:10:49] Co:
Oh, cool.
[00:10:51] Brodie:
So I'll keep you updated on that.
[00:10:54] Co:
Yeah. You know, Virginia Beach has a lot of, new stuff coming to it because they I saw something else today about, the dome Yeah. At the beach. Like yeah. The that's the thing with Pharrell. So I think it's supposed to be, like, a surf park and a music venue and apartments and restaurants and all that stuff. I think it's set to open by July this summer, but they had some stuff scheduled before that. Like, in May. Yeah. And it was supposed to be, like, like, the thing coming full circle. Like, the band or Three Dog Night was the band that gave the final performance at the old dome back in 1993.
Really? And they're supposed to be the first act to perform when the new dome is built.
[00:11:51] Brodie:
Wow. Three dog a night. Yeah. Awesome. That'll be a lot of fun.
[00:12:01] Co:
Yeah. Cool. It's kinda, weird to have a we call it the, I don't wanna call it a wave park, the surf park at the beach.
[00:12:15] Brodie:
Yeah. Definitely. That is weird. Yeah. Yes. It'll be But it works. Inside though?
[00:12:23] Co:
So you can kinda I'm not completely sure about that. Yeah. Hopefully. I mean and then, you know, the people that can't that do love to surf that can't do it in the wintertime, have an indoor place to do it.
[00:12:36] Brodie:
If that's how it goes, I don't know. Yeah. I don't know. I'll have to read more about that.
[00:12:42] Co:
Yeah.
[00:12:44] Brodie:
So we're going to we're doing this podcast. We get tips and news stories from our neighbors. And I wanna call people neighbors instead of listeners. Does that sound good? Yeah. I like it. Yeah.
[00:13:00] Co:
I know. You do that in your neighborhood. Like, the little mister Rogers, neighborhood intro. Hello, neighbors. Yeah.
[00:13:08] Brodie:
I'm gonna have to get that. We'd also like some, like, some art for the show, and we ask for value for value. So if you get any value out of the show, then give some value back. That can be, in the form of time, talent, or treasure. So like I said, art for the show or if we can do some intro or outro sounds or other clips, or if you have some other tips for us to share or local news, or it can be in the form of monetary. And we actually got some monetary this week, Ko. Whoop whoop. It came from Karie Brown.
[00:13:50] Co:
And she already wrote miss Brown.
[00:13:53] Brodie:
Yeah. I'll read her note. She says, I don't listen to podcasts much, but I'm sure enjoying Tidewater Talk. I like the news briefs, things to do in the area, and the weather. I don't live in Virginia, but I have family there, so I'm excited to do some things you've mentioned next time I'm there. Keep up the great work. Thanks, mom.
[00:14:14] Co:
Thanks, Brodie's mom.
[00:14:19] Unknown:
I wasn't gonna say it if you didn't. Oh, I'll say it. Yeah. She can be our first donation.
[00:14:27] Brodie:
Yeah. That's awesome. Thanks so much, mom.
[00:14:31] Co:
Yes. Thank you again.
[00:14:33] Brodie:
And that leads to my first Tidewater tip. We went to we went and rode the tide this week because our How was it? It was awesome. We do that fairly often anyway because, my boy, that's just his favorite thing, his trains. And Right. He's disabled, so it's easy to get him on and off. They have his ramps up to there and everything. And it's actually, free for him. It says on the when you go to buy a ticket that it's free for well, it says 17 and under and 65 and over is a dollar. But the guy running the train the conductor came over to me, and he was like, no. It means that they're free. So we didn't pay for him. And my daughter's 13, so we didn't pay for her. Then it's $4.50 for all day for adults.
But we ride that from Nice. Newtown over to the McArthur Mall Uh-huh. And just got out and had some lunch and walked around. It's, it was clean on the way there. It was just a fun little ride, clean shuttle, you know, rail. What do they call it? Light rail?
[00:15:57] Co:
Uh-huh. Yeah. You mean clean, like, as in, like, physically clean? Or okay. The car was clean and there was, you know How about on the way back? The way back was a little
[00:16:08] Brodie:
worse. It was, kind of dirty. Like, more people had been eating in there and stuff. Later in the day. Yeah. Yeah. But I think it most of the time we're on we're on there. It's Queen. So I don't know about later in the day. We usually ride in the middle of the day.
[00:16:29] Co:
Okay.
[00:16:31] Brodie:
Something we saw there is they have in the MacArthur Mall, which is kinda odd because I thought they were closing that, like, years ago. Mhmm. Maybe that's one of those they're four years out. They're gonna close them all. But it was open, kind of. Like, every fifth store has is open. Right. So you got some jewelry stores and stuff. But,
[00:16:56] Co:
there was a few places that are still hanging on.
[00:16:59] Brodie:
Right. It was odd. Yeah. But there's a new place in there, the Model Railroad Museum. It was really cool. I'll put it in the show notes for the the website and stuff, but it's, the Model Railroad Museum of Hampton Roads. And they've got all these different size trains running, and there's a historian there that caught us. And he's like, oh, let me tell you about this and this and this and, told us all about the history of Hampton Roads and transportation in the area. Oh, cool. He said it's one of the biggest transportation hubs in the world. I don't know. Really? Yeah.
I guess if you think about it, yeah, there's huge ships coming in and out in the military stuff That's true. And the trains and the yeah. Sort of you got the Norfolk stuff. International airport. Right. Yeah. I didn't realize how big that is. And they got one of them set up to mimic the area so you can actually see where each of the ports are in the airport and the ocean. It's pretty cool.
[00:18:17] Co:
Sounds cool.
[00:18:18] Brodie:
Yeah. They have a lot of fun. They're taking volunteers there too if you don't, any carpentry skills or electrical skills or anything. It'd be kind of fun to set up if you're into that kind of stuff. You know, my boy was so happy he was crying. Really? Yeah. That was cool. Yep. That's cool.
[00:18:43] Co:
Well, Broadway and Norfolk released their, shows coming to the Mermaid City for the twenty twenty five, twenty twenty six season. So if you want to know, all of these will be coming to us. The Wiz, the Neil Diamond musical, Beautiful Noise Oh, Neil Diamond. And Juliet. Yeah. And Juliet, Shucked, Misses Doubtfire, and The Lion King.
[00:19:16] Brodie:
Really?
[00:19:17] Co:
Yeah. That's a good tip. Thank you.
[00:19:23] Brodie:
I got that from that podcast too.
[00:19:28] Unknown:
I'm a have to listen to right now just for their, little clips.
[00:19:34] Brodie:
Kind of fun. No. That was a good tip, though. I like that. We went to Stomp last year, me and my daughter. Yeah. That's so cool that they have that.
[00:19:45] Co:
Yeah. That's the one where they, use, like, all the brooms and the trash cans and stuff. Yeah.
[00:19:51] Brodie:
Yeah. It's just so cool. It's really cool. So much of that kind of stuff around here.
[00:19:57] Co:
Yeah. We do have you know what? I've got another tip just because I went there with my mother-in-law this weekend to, Biscuit Belly. It's like a breakfast and brunch place. And they have, all kinds of biscuit sandwiches, like, your normal breakfast stuff like eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese. But they also have fried chicken and turkey and brisket. And, of course, they have, like, biscuits and gravy and French toast and pancakes and all that other stuff, but it was really good. They have, two locations. One off of Volvo Parkway in Chesapeake, and then they have one in Norfolk.
But I don't I don't really know. Biscuit
[00:20:43] Brodie:
Belly. Oh, Biscuit Belly. Cool. Now you got me real hungry. I'm gonna have to go there. How late do they open?
[00:20:54] Co:
I think it's just a, a breakfast and brunch thing. Let me see if I can find their hours real quick.
[00:21:01] Brodie:
That's alright. I'm sure it's just breakfast. I was just saying I'm hungry.
[00:21:06] Co:
Yeah. I'm hungry. Yeah. Well, they're closed. It doesn't tell me their hours right away. It says closed. Oh, 07:30 to two.
[00:21:18] Brodie:
Oh, cool. I love those kind of places.
[00:21:22] Co:
And that's, Monday through Thursday, and then on the weekends, 07:30 to three. Yeah.
[00:21:29] Brodie:
And that was in Norfolk? So Oh, you said there were three locations.
[00:21:35] Co:
Two. There's one in Chesapeake, and then there's one in Norfolk.
[00:21:39] Brodie:
Cool. Yeah. I'm gonna have to go there. That sounds good. Yeah.
[00:21:46] Co:
It's actually really good.
[00:21:51] Brodie:
And you've been there?
[00:21:53] Co:
Yeah. I went there on Saturday.
[00:21:57] Brodie:
Really?
[00:21:58] Co:
Yeah. It stayed way too long, but they didn't kick us out. We're just catching up, me and my mother-in-law and some other, family members in the area. I say family members like that because I'm not from here.
[00:22:19] Unknown:
These are family members that moved here later.
[00:22:23] Brodie:
Really?
[00:22:24] Co:
Yeah. So, my, when we lived here the first time, my husband's youngest sister came out to stay with us, and then she ended up meeting a guy and getting married and having kids. And they stay and they stayed here. And then years later, my husband's mom wanted to be closer to her grandkids, and, you know, they were living in LA. Cost of living here is a lot better. So they sold their house, moved to Virginia. And then she told her brother how great it was, and, you know, he moved to Virginia. So we have a little bit of family here now.
[00:23:01] Brodie:
Awesome. Yeah. I'm jealous. Yeah. Do they like it out here?
[00:23:08] Co:
Well, they haven't said anything bad to me. So
[00:23:11] Brodie:
Do they listen to Tidewater Talk?
[00:23:15] Co:
Not yet.
[00:23:18] Brodie:
Well, we gotta get them on board. Yeah. I do. There's so much in the area. I'm getting so excited about doing this podcast.
[00:23:27] Co:
Yeah. It just Kinda, forces you to get out a little bit too. Yeah. So you could talk about some stuff. Right? Go ride the tide and
[00:23:37] Brodie:
see what there is to eat. And I just,
[00:23:40] Co:
Yeah.
[00:23:41] Brodie:
Was at the bookstore and got a book called The Witch of Pongo. Who? So kind of a teaser for what we're gonna do some other time. Because I'm actually gonna I wanna go see all these places that it's talking about. That'd be cool. And why the why we have Witch Duck Road and, there's a statue. I already went and looked at the statue of the Witch of Pungo, Grace Sherwood over on it's on, Independence Avenue. There's a statue of her. It's really cool.
[00:24:14] Co:
So Does it have like a little does it have like a little write up at the statue Yeah. So you can learn something there? Yeah. Because that was the
[00:24:23] Brodie:
place I guess that's where the courthouse was where she was convicted of being a witch, and, they threw her in the they had tied her hands and her feet together and threw her in the water. So if she floats, she's a witch, and if she doesn't, she's innocent.
[00:24:40] Co:
Well
[00:24:43] Brodie:
She she she floated, so she was guilty and went to jail.
[00:24:49] Co:
Can't win. Yeah. There's no winner for the accused witches. I know.
[00:24:56] Brodie:
But it's really cool. It takes, I mean, takes place in late sixteen hundreds, so this area is rich with history, and
[00:25:06] Co:
I'm excited. I might have to get a copy of this too so I could know what you're talking about when we get to it. Yeah. A book club.
[00:25:17] Brodie:
Yeah. That's fun. Well, cool.
[00:25:23] Co:
I wanna You know what? Let's talk about, what the weather's gonna be doing this week.
[00:25:30] Brodie:
Yes, please. I totally forgot the weather.
[00:25:35] Co:
That's all good. It is
[00:25:37] Brodie:
62 degrees in Fentress, and it's 62 at the airport also, ORF. Wind out of the south, but it's pretty gusty today. I got a 20, 20 mile an hour gust at ORF, 22 down at Fentress. For the forecast, it's 62 right now. Can you believe that?
[00:26:07] Co:
You know, it got pretty warm today. I can't believe that. Yeah. But we just had 12 inches of snow. Right. Oh, it's 62 degrees. Somebody flipped the coin. Right.
[00:26:20] Brodie:
Tomorrow is gonna be 70, but breezy and rainy. And then Yep. The rest of the week's looking high fifties, low sixties.
[00:26:31] Co:
Yep. I'm seeing the same thing. I think we got some tidal data low tide at, 7PM tonight and high tide at 01:30AM. Yeah. Yep.
[00:26:49] Brodie:
And seas, it's two to three feet right now and five feet tomorrow with a gale warning, so be careful on small craft. Then we'll level out two to four feet the rest of the week. Yeah. Thanks for reminding me. That's the best part. Yeah. I forgot.
[00:27:13] Co:
I was waiting for, like, some, some new sound effects or something. I didn't wanna say it.
[00:27:26] Unknown:
Man, I messed that up. That probably sounds so evil laughing over this thunderstorm.
[00:27:34] Brodie:
Yeah. I messed that up. Thanks for saving me, Co.
[00:27:39] Co:
We're saving each other. Dang it.
[00:27:41] Brodie:
One podcast at a time. I knew there was something in there that I missed. We got it. Right. Cool. Do you wanna hit anything else?
[00:27:56] Co:
That's all I got for today. How about you?
[00:27:58] Brodie:
Oh, that's good. That's all I got.
[00:28:05] Co:
Do you wanna take this out? I sure will. Alrighty. And that wraps up another week's edition of Tidewater Talk. Thanks for hanging out with us. Don't forget to check us out at tidewatertalk.com.
