[00:00:34] Brodie:
Hey, Cole. I'm Brodie. Hey, Brodie. And I'm wondering if gas is full on the left or the right, like in your car. Is the gas gauge full on the left or the right?
[00:00:49] Co:
I'm trying to the I'm trying to understand.
[00:00:53] Brodie:
So, the other day, I hop in my car to go to work and I'm already running late. So I'm like, do not wanna get gas, but it looks like it's totally empty. So I run to the gas station and then it'll only take like a gallon. So I'm like, what is wrong with this pump? I don't have time for this. So luckily, I looked back in there and it was completely full. Like, what what is wrong with me that I thought that that was empty? So I keep looking at it, like, of course, full is on the right because that's, like, increasing speed goes to the right, increasing RPMs goes to the right. So what was wrong with me? Then I get in my wife's car, and it's wrong.
So it's like it's full at the top and then empty at the bottom, but it's kinda shifted not quite up and down so that the full is on the left. Like, that's why I was backwards because I was driving her car for a few days.
[00:02:04] Co:
I can't say I've never had this problem.
[00:02:08] Brodie:
I've never had this issue. I was like, what is wrong with me? But then I realized it's because hers is backwards. I couldn't believe it.
[00:02:19] Co:
Yeah. No. I I pretty much just watched the numbers drop down. Like, when the light comes on and it's, like, less than 20, then I gotta go put more gas in.
[00:02:30] Brodie:
But mine's obvious. Like, it's the right way. It's red on e. Like, what made me think that I was about out of gas? I I don't know. I don't know. It's like I am an idiot. But luckily, I looked at hers and was like, oh, that's what got me confused. I was used to hers, and it's wrong.
[00:02:58] Co:
Alright.
[00:03:00] Brodie:
Sorry. I'm just having to figure out how dumb I am. No.
[00:03:06] Co:
That's cool. Let's see. I should've thought about this because I knew it was coming. But I'm Co and, you know, I hate when socks lose their elasticity and then, like, one sock will drop down into your shoe.
[00:03:26] Brodie:
Yeah. Me too.
[00:03:27] Co:
Yeah. That's awful.
[00:03:29] Brodie:
It is.
[00:03:30] Co:
Yeah. That happened to me today. Oh, man. I'm sorry.
[00:03:35] Brodie:
And then it's it's like this thing weighing on you the whole day.
[00:03:40] Co:
Yeah. Right? You just think it about that stuff. Shoe off and readjust Yeah. A couple of times.
[00:03:46] Brodie:
It's terrible. I'm sorry.
[00:03:49] Co:
It was all good. It's my fault. I should have been through these socks out.
[00:03:54] Brodie:
Yeah. Well, it's a great day to be in Hampton Roads. I, I listened to the, interview by the governor today on on the radio. Oh, yeah. What's he talking about? He started off with, it's a great day to be a Virginian. So I'm like, well, it's a great day to be in Hampton Roads. He said a lot of cool stuff. He's, he's talking about a website for jobs, virginia has jobs.com. That's a pretty cool site. I checked it out and it's, seems well organized. Good way to find what's what kind of jobs are hiring around here. And it had a lot of the big companies that are on here too. So it's not just the low paying jobs. It was really cool.
And then he was talking about cell phone free education. Mhmm. Yeah. I I don't know how I feel about that yet. Because I like yeah. Because I like that kids have, another like, they have access to their parents. They have access to emergencies. They have access you know, I I just feel like we need to get better at teaching with that in the room. But he made some good points today too that, now because they've done this in a few schools. Now you can go into the lunchroom and kids are talking to each other instead of all just have their heads down looking at their phones. It creates a totally different environment when you take that cell phone out of the classroom.
[00:05:46] Co:
I bet.
[00:05:47] Brodie:
Yeah. So that's a good point too. We should probably think more about that. He made some good points about the not raising the minimum wage. He, he just vetoed that one. I don't know. You can go either way with that, I guess. But it was cool listening to him. Glenn Youngkin?
[00:06:13] Co:
Yep. Yeah.
[00:06:18] Brodie:
And I have a question for you.
[00:06:20] Co:
Yes.
[00:06:22] Brodie:
If you had a friend or a family member or something that hadn't ever been to Tidewater area and they come out to visit, what are you gonna do with them? Are you gonna take them, and what are you gonna do?
[00:06:38] Co:
That depends depends on when they come. If they come in the summer, we can go to the beach. If they come, you know, on a rainy day, we can go down to the Apex in Virginia Beach. If they have kids, we can go to the zoo or the aquarium or the children's museum. If, you know, it's my father-in-law, we can go to Nauticus and tour the USS USS Wisconsin. Right. My artsy friends, we can go to the Chrysler. There there's so much to do here. There is. Right? Yeah. And we gotta eat, and we'd go anywhere for that.
[00:07:20] Brodie:
That's right. Yeah. The first thing I thought of was, the boardwalk. Because you got the King Neptune statue. You got all kinds of good restaurants there. Then there's even that restaurant out at the end of that pier. It'd be fun to go to. And there's, the lighthouse and the park at Rudy Inlet for kids.
[00:07:42] Unknown:
Mhmm.
[00:07:45] Brodie:
And then I asked a few other people the same thing. And I got a lot of the same as you, the children's museum, Chrysler Museum, and then Town Center in Virginia Beach, which surprised me because I I don't know why. I just I kinda think of it as just some tall buildings and, Oh, no. They have all kinds of stuff already. Once she once she started saying what it was what was there, I was like, that's true. It is a nice place to hang out.
[00:08:15] Co:
Yeah. That's where, Apex is, down there in Towne Center. Yeah. There's the Sandler Center for Performing Arts. There's, the z where they do have they have, like, open mic nights and stuff like that. There are shops, Lululemon
[00:08:32] Brodie:
Yeah. And the Anthropologie. Yeah. And the Lego store.
[00:08:37] Co:
There's,
[00:08:39] Brodie:
restaurants. There's the I don't know. Yeah. All kinds of great places to eat. All kinds. Right? Mexican, Chinese. There's everything's right there. The Cheesecake factory is there. Yeah.
[00:08:54] Co:
And actually Ruth's Chris Steakhouse? Mhmm. Yeah. I took a class. It was a free class for, was it project management? It was just like a preparatory class before you take the exam. Yeah. And it was for free, and, I took that through Westlian. But it was at The Hive down there in town center.
[00:09:19] Brodie:
The Hive? The Hive. I don't even know what that is.
[00:09:24] Co:
Yeah. They have all kind of resources there. Like, it for people looking for jobs or wanting to network or build resumes or take classes.
[00:09:34] Brodie:
Really? Mhmm. And then I got military aviation museum. That sounds really fun too.
[00:09:43] Co:
Yeah. I haven't been there yet, but I've heard it's nice. This is a, good segue into one of the articles that I have for tonight because it calls out a lot of lock, local places. It says that this coastal city was just chosen as a location for a new travel show. So the Chesapeake Bay, 1 of the world's most beautiful estuaries, has sustained life for thousands of years. It is now its vibrant maritime culture and Virginia Beach's saltwater fishing experiences star in a special episode of a new fishing show called Just Landed, hosted by expert angler, Jim Root.
And it features top ways to get outdoors and places to eat seafood in the destination and more. The episode begins at the Lynnhaven River, where Root goes out with the fifth generation blue crabber in the Chesapeake Bay. And then the article goes on and on, but all throughout it, it calls out all of these places, like Dockside Seafood Fishing Center, Commune, the Vibe Vibe Creative District, Bubba Seafood, Fish and Sea, Sport and it just goes on and on. It calls out so many restaurants and places to go in this article, and I thought it was really cool. Awesome.
[00:11:06] Brodie:
They've already recorded the episode?
[00:11:09] Co:
Well, yeah. Because well, I think it's recorded, but I don't know that it's released. Right? Because it talks about where it stop stops or excuse me, starts out in the different places that he went to throughout, his stay here. Awesome.
[00:11:24] Brodie:
Yeah. I wanna watch that.
[00:11:26] Co:
Me too.
[00:11:28] Brodie:
It doesn't segue into the story I was gonna talk about. Oh, dang.
[00:11:34] Unknown:
I always go keep it going. I was like, I mean, how do I segue over to this?
[00:11:42] Brodie:
I was gonna talk about there was a power outage yesterday that, there's salt buildup on the power lines, which caused a power outage to 5,500 in Virginia Beach. And I guess that's a normal thing around here. I didn't even know that.
[00:12:01] Co:
I didn't know it until I also picked that article for tonight.
[00:12:05] Brodie:
Oh, yeah.
[00:12:06] Unknown:
Yeah.
[00:12:07] Co:
Yeah. But that's crazy that it's common. It says it's common in coastal areas. Right. And I've lived in quite a few coastal areas. I've never heard of this before. Me neither.
[00:12:19] Brodie:
Yeah. Kinda makes sense, but I just had never thought of it being a issue.
[00:12:25] Co:
Me neither.
[00:12:27] Brodie:
And they had it back back up and running within an hour. So they're probably used to running out and fixing that kind of stuff, but something I never thought about. I know I get salt buildup on certain cars. Seems like the Dodge Rams just, like, rust out because of the salt in the air. I never knew it would knock out power. Do you wanna go to the weather?
[00:12:57] Co:
Well, yes.
[00:12:59] Brodie:
Alright. Right now, it is 63 degrees at the airport. How about you guys? 67 out in Chesapeake. And we can see rain coming on the radar because it's gonna rain tonight. And then it's gonna be real nice till Sunday. We got temperatures increasing, from about 60 from what it is now till about 75 on Saturday and then, rain Sunday night. So it'd be real nice nice week to go out and ride ride a bike, grab a motorcycle,
[00:13:38] Co:
go boating. Yeah. 75 is nice. Right?
[00:13:42] Brodie:
Get outside this winter. Spring feel to it too. Mhmm. It'd be awesome.
[00:13:50] Co:
Yeah. We had a couple of things coming up. Well, actually, one of them is tonight. And if anybody's listening to this live, you probably won't make it. But the Golden Girls, like, a stage play of the Golden Girls tonight at Chrysler Hall from seven to 08:30.
[00:14:10] Brodie:
Golden Girls stage play.
[00:14:13] Co:
Yeah.
[00:14:14] Brodie:
Awesome. It's cool. Right? It'd probably be hilarious.
[00:14:20] Co:
I that's why it says the laughs continue. I mean, the show was hilarious. I loved, what's the the mother? Sofia.
[00:14:29] Brodie:
Yeah.
[00:14:30] Co:
Yeah. It'd be great. She's my favorite. Her and and Blanche Devereaux.
[00:14:36] Brodie:
Yeah. This would be great.
[00:14:39] Co:
Yeah. And then on the on Saturday, March, at New Realm, they're having their bloom festival from twelve to 4PM at New Realm Brewing.
[00:14:54] Brodie:
Balloon festival.
[00:14:56] Unknown:
Bloom. Is my nose stuffy? Bloom, b-l-o-o-o-m. Bloom.
[00:15:05] Brodie:
Sorry. No. I think I'm just dyslexic or something. I don't know. No.
[00:15:14] Unknown:
Not even reading.
[00:15:17] Brodie:
Yeah. I yeah. I was thinking, like, big hot air balloons or something. I was like, really get up early.
[00:15:24] Co:
That's one thing that I've never wanted to do. Like, hot air balloons look cool, but I don't ever wanna be in one. Really? I did that once. It's fun. No. No. I enjoyed it. Wanna do that.
[00:15:38] Unknown:
I don't understand it, and I don't wanna do it.
[00:15:43] Brodie:
I enjoyed it. It was cool. Went down and did it in, Albuquerque. They do the big balloon festival. Uh-huh. Yeah. So there's just balloons everywhere.
[00:15:56] Co:
Yeah. It's really cool. It doesn't make sense to me. Yeah.
[00:16:01] Brodie:
No. It's fun. But if any of our neighbors have other tips and things they're doing or things that they would, take their friends and family to in the area, we wanna hear about it. You can email us at [email protected] because that's kinda how we run the the podcast too is value for value system. So you can give your time, talent, treasure, tips, anything you wanna share with us. And then the treasure part, you can go to, we take donations at, tidewatertalk.com. You can find it there. And then the time and talent part, you can do art for the show or, some news articles or something that you know is going on.
Or, yeah, send us some tips.
[00:17:01] Co:
Yeah. So if you got some value, feel free to give some back.
[00:17:07] Brodie:
Right.
[00:17:09] Co:
I Great. We appreciate it.
[00:17:11] Brodie:
Yes. I got a tip for us.
[00:17:16] Co:
Okay.
[00:17:17] Brodie:
The Cherry Blossom Festival is happening in Virginia Beach this weekend, and it's really cool. Like, I'm excited to see cherry blossoms and stuff. But then that article made me look into some other stuff too that I didn't realize that Virginia Beach had a sister city in What? Miyazaki, Japan.
[00:17:43] Co:
So So what do they mean by sister city? Is it, like, at the same latitude?
[00:17:48] Brodie:
Or No. It was started in 1986. These two friends, doctor Hiroyuki Hamada, he was a professor at Old Dominion. He organized a friendship with the city of Miyazaki City, Japan. And so Oh, that's cool. Yeah. And that exchange like, they exchanged some students at first, and then they did it more, formally. We set up this park, the Red Wing Park in Virginia Beach. And, a lot of the Japanese culture is, put there. And then out in Miyazaki City, they have a replica of the lighthouse. Mhmm. The Chesapeake Lighthouse. So they come out and do some stuff here for the Cherry Blossom Festival. It's pretty neat. It's been going on for, what's that, forty years.
[00:19:00] Co:
And so does it happen what what did you call it? The red wing part? Yeah.
[00:19:04] Brodie:
And that's where this the cherry. Yeah. Where the cherry blossom festival is. Yeah. They did it I was looking at the the population because they they were about the same population back then in 1986. Virginia Beach had 70,100 and Miyazaki had 70,700. And now, they're almost the same still. Because we have 457,000 and they have 394,000. So right around 400,000. Isn't that crazy? That is Like growing at the same rate too. It looks like a really pretty place. Good place to be, sister cities with picnic areas, tennis ball courts, pickleball courts, basketball court, volleyball courts, two playground areas, and then Miyazaki Japan Japanese garden, a Bee City Pollinator Garden. That sounds really fun. I love pollinator gardens.
And then there's picnic areas with charcoal grills, dog park, open fields. It's all about the the Red Wing Park. Mhmm. And then during the festival, there's gonna be martial arts demonstrations
[00:20:35] Co:
Cool. And
[00:20:37] Brodie:
new radio taiso exercise with audience participation.
[00:20:43] Co:
What is that? I don't know. Radio Taiso?
[00:20:48] Brodie:
Yeah. And then more martial arts demonstrations, and there's interactive activities, coloring stations, create your create your own bookmark, origami station, and yellow post box mail station,
[00:21:03] Co:
and a What does that mean? I wonder. Yellow post box mail station.
[00:21:07] Brodie:
And then there's a What if you could get, like, a pen pal? I don't know if people still do that. Yeah. That's what it made me think of. Maybe there's a pen pal you'd get in Miyazaki, but I do not know, so I don't wanna
[00:21:19] Co:
put that out. It's a, it's a exercise, the, radio taiso. Okay. Yeah. It's like, like the have you ever been to Japan? Like, you see, like, all the old people up early in the morning just exercising in the park and stuff. Really? Yeah. Like, it looks like stretches and, like, little dynamic stretching, but not like not like jumping or sprinting or anything like that, but just, like, moving. Cool. That's awesome.
[00:21:53] Brodie:
That happens on both well, there's one, two, three, eight days of it. March 29 to April 5. So that happens throughout the week.
[00:22:04] Co:
People, with allergies, I think that's probably a bad time for them.
[00:22:10] Brodie:
Yeah. I haven't thought about that. Is cherry blossoms usually a allergy thing?
[00:22:17] Co:
I don't know if it's person specific. You know what I mean? Like, if cherry blossoms bother some and not others. But don't know. My husband does. It bothers him. Really?
[00:22:29] Brodie:
It does. Yeah. Well, then he can't go.
[00:22:32] Co:
I can. He'll still go. Like, take some Zyrtec.
[00:22:36] Brodie:
Yeah. So I think that does it, Ko. You wanna take us out? I will. And that wraps up another week's edition of Tidewater Talk.
[00:22:46] Co:
Thanks for hanging out with us. Don't forget to check us out on talkwatertalk.com. Have a fantastic week, and we'll catch y'all next time. Try and top that for a killer show.
