In this Sunday Bible study from Eagle Pass, I kick off our ongoing series in Proverbs by unpacking Proverbs 11:30—“he that winneth souls is wise.” We explore the difference between knowledge and wisdom, why true wisdom comes from God, and how soul-winning is a spiritual contest shaped by unseen forces (Ephesians 6).
I walk through practical, memorable lessons from Proverbs 30—learning preparation from the ant, security in the Rock (Christ) like the coney, banded boldness like the locust, and strategic persistence like the spider. Along the way, we trace Paul’s model of persuasion, the eternal value of the soul, and how simple Scripture and sincere relationships can lead others to Christ.
We close by encouraging listeners to anchor in the King James Bible, prepare for the Judgment Seat of Christ, and embrace the joy of leading someone to the Lord. I also share updates on upcoming guests and our plan to teach dispensations after Proverbs, and I encourage you to connect with us through the website for questions and ideas for future studies. Thanks for spending your Sunday evening with us—let’s set the tone for the week with God’s wisdom and a heart for souls.

Transmitting live from the asylum studios deep in the bowels of Southwest Texas, it's the Joe Ruge Show. The show where we talk about anything and everything. Where nothing is sacred, nothing is watered down, and nothing is PC.

Alright. Hey, folks, this is Joe Ruse, and it is great to be with you once again as we open up and study Word of God, your King James Bible. Hey, you know folks, as always, whenever and wherever you find yourself listening to us, it's always my prayer that you also find yourself in the grace and in the mercy of our Lord and savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome to the Joe Ruse Show. And of course, as always, we are transmitting live from the asylum studios from the pimple on the backside of Texas, the beautiful city of Eagle Pass. And you know what folks? It is a beautiful day here in Eagle Pass. It is a hot, sunny, beautiful day.
It's a beautiful day for a bible study. Now folks, I hope you guys had a great week. You know, we, had a ton of things going on this week. Had a great show yesterday with our, resident crypto psychic, Marissa Lee. It was a great show. And I wanna apologize before we even get any further about all the little hiccups at the start of the show here today. When things go wrong, things go wrong. They always start off wrong. So I apologize for the little, you know, ins and outs and and all that stuff. Yesterday with the power out, right before the show started, and today with all these little glitches and and stuff like that, having problems with this studio that we're using now. So a little little frustrated, but that's alright. We'll get through it. We'll make it through. We'll do our thing, and, we'll have a lot of good bible study. I hope, anyway.
Yeah, we will. Any study of the bible is a good study. Don't you think? I think so. I think so. And you know, I hope you guys had a good weekend. I hope you guys are ready for, the week coming up. That's why I like to do the bible study on Sunday too. It kinda puts you into a mindset for the remainder of the well, for the beginning of the week at least, and it gets you through the first part. And, you know, we got a packed week ahead of us, coming up. We got some great guests coming up this week, so it's gonna be a lot of fun, a lot of interesting conversations, a lot of things to talk about. And, so, you know, always starting off with the bible studies always, I think, kinda sets the pace for everything else that we're doing. And, that's why it's really important to do these things, to do these bible studies. It's a lot it's it's a lot of information here in this precious book that we have right here in front of us. Now, recently, we started a new series from the book of Proverbs.
As you might remember, the book of Proverbs is what? The book of Proverbs is a book of wisdom, and, that's what it was intended for, and that's what it declares itself to be. All about wisdom. Wisdom. Now if there's anything that America lacks, it's wisdom. Honestly, if there's anything that this country lacks is wisdom. The book of James. James says, if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and abradeth not. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally, and abradeth not, and it shall be given him. Alright. So if you need wisdom, the best thing to do is to ask God for it, and then consult his books of wisdom. Very specifically Proverbs and Ecclesiastes.
They're just those those are books of wisdom. Now, knowledge is one thing, wisdom is something else. Alright? And again, the, the example I've always used, and I will continue to use is that, you know, knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting in a fruit salad. So wisdom is the ability to apply knowledge appropriately. You know, a lot of people a lot of people have accumulated knowledge. Right? You would say that. A lot of people have accumulated knowledge, and they're still dumber than a box of rocks. Still.
I don't know if you noticed that, but that's that's and if you don't believe that, I mean just all you have to do is really just watch the nightly news. Just why, and you'll pick up on that really quick. So so so wisdom, wisdom, or or just listen to Jasmine Crockett speak. You know, so wisdom is the real source of wisdom is God. Not humankind, it's God. It comes from a divine source. Alright, now before we get started, and, and we're gonna get started here momentarily, if I don't know if I should do it now or later. I think I'll do it later. But, so let's do this. Let's just go to let's go into the, let's let's do the housekeeping stuff. So just head over to, our website, joeroos.com. Go over to the contact section. Open up that little web form, and send us over a message. Let us know whatever's on your heart, whatever's on your mind, any questions, comments, cares, or concerns that you might have.
Any ideas for a show that you like or maybe a topic you'd like us to cover or a guest you'd like us to get, let us know. Just, send over that message to the contact forms. You can drop a comment down below, or you could actually email me directly at [email protected]. That's [email protected]. Also, while you're on the website, please look for the support button. It should be right there on your homepage. And remember that this is a modern value for value podcast. And all that means is that if you've received anything of value from what we're doing here, please consider a donation to the show. That's how you could demonstrate your appreciation for the value you're getting. So it's a value for value.
If you're getting value, we're asking you return that value in the form of donation. That could be your time, your talent, your treasure, it could be one, two, maybe all three of those things. However it is that you can help us out as long as you have the means to do it, it, we would greatly appreciate that. Alright? And one of the things that I was I was contemplating, has was basically, we well, if you're familiar with my old show, the other bible study show that that I used to do, we always had, moments where we our favorite pink haired prophetess, Kat Ker would creep in on the scene here. And, I I think I'm gonna show it to you here because it's just it's just apropos.
It's just apropos. Alright. So, Kat Kerr, never missing an opportunity to capitalize capitalize on something, went on a a podcast, and it and it's this is a show that she goes on quite a bit. I think she's actually part probably like a co host of the show or something like that. So she goes on this on this this show, and, she claims that she, our pink haired prophetess, ascended into heaven. And when she arrived in heaven, she saw Charlie Kirk in heaven. Now I'm not denying the fact that Charlie Kirk is more than likely in heaven. I don't know his testimony. I don't know his full story, but, based on what I've seen, I I I would believe he is.
But, but Kat Ker is looking to capitalize on this, And, you know, I think that's that's a pretty awful thing to do. But I'm gonna play this clip here for you. This is a this is a video of her on a show, where she's describing, what she saw when she ascended into heaven and saw our, Charlie Kirk?
[00:12:47] Unknown:
When I saw him standing, next to the father he was right there up at the throne with the father, and, there was silence in the throne at that point. People always come to welcome people there. He was wearing, like, a tunic outfit, a tunic top and pants, and it was white. And it had gold trimmed all over it. That he he had a choice and he went and got that. Is that what you're saying? Father took it. He wanted him that. He wanted for a per for a purpose. Okay. This is you and I realize now after seeing this, he was getting part of his reward for what he had done.
For all the years, he had given himself to rescue people, especially the youth. And then when I I saw him turn, he turned, he had on a quiver. And that quiver, I knew, was here. There were 1,000 arrows of light in this quiver. Wow. And this was part of his reward.
[00:13:52] Unknown:
I don't know if this guy just humors her, or if he really believes the things that she says. Alright. I I just think it's it's the pink haired prophetess folks. That's all I'm gonna say. That's all I can say. Alright, folks. Ezra healing is a substantial part of the new wellness paradigm that is currently being born in The United States and, North America and, of course, around the globe. The global citizenry are no longer satisfied with the sick care version of so called health care. Band aid medicine treating endlessly treating symptoms rather than root causes must be abandoned as soon as possible. Patient centric care must be the priority. We need to transition towards the do no harm model of private care that places humanity at the forefront of real health and wellness care. In this new model, your entire lifestyle is examined and analyzed to promote and support the totality of your body's integrated systems.
Ezra Healing is a solutions based health promotion and disease prevention grassroots movement that is always evolving to best serve you and your family. Now for more information about Ezra Healing, just head over to ezrahealing.com. That's ezrahealing.com. And, make sure that when you get there, you let him know that you heard it here on the Joe Russo. And, and, hope you guys can get something good out of it. Because as we're healing the folks, they're fantastic. They're great folks to work with. They have a lot of programs, a lot of things. They have this new binaural meditation program that they're that they're, they're promoting on their website. So you need to check that out also. I I have the audio of it, and it's it's really good. So you, you need to check it out. So ezrahealing.com.
Ezra healing dot com. Alright. Proverbs chapter 11. Let's get started. And while you turn into Proverbs chapter 11, you know, one of the the the reason why I I I brought up Kat Kerr, our pink haired prophetess here, is because, you know, this woman is notorious for these, extra biblical experiences that she that she claims to have. And, she is just far out there. I mean, just totally far out there. I I I I don't wanna be I I don't wanna tell you to go check out her stuff because I I don't want you to get loaded down with a lot of false doctrine. She is a she's she's on the charismatic side of the whole thing, so she's into the all the signs and wonders and things that are not meant for us here in the church age.
And we're gonna get into some dispensational stuff, after we do, the series on Proverbs. We're gonna start teaching through the dispensations, and I'm a dispensationalist. I believe that God works with mankind specific ways throughout different periods of time, those are called dispensations. Alright? Probably not the most clear explanation or definition of what a dispensation is, but that's basically what it is. God deals with men and works with men, differently over different periods of time. Like, for example, right now, we're in the dispensation of grace, the church age. Alright? So you're saved by grace through faith and nothing else. There's no matter of work that you can do to get yourself into heaven. There's nothing you can do other than putting your full faith, trust, and confidence in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. So, so that's a dispensation that we're in. And so we're gonna go into that, and we're gonna study the dispensations after we do Proverbs.
And, you're gonna it's a it's a good study. I've taught it twice before. So I think I think you guys gonna get something really good out of this, and, looking for actually looking forward to get into it. It's been a bit since, since we dipped into this well, at least I've dipped into dispensations. So, it's gonna be a lot of fun. A lot of you're gonna hear a lot of things you probably never heard before either. Trust me on that one, because there's a lot of things out there that the mainstream modern churches do not teach or preach. So you get so this is coming strictly from the word of God. That's it.
That's it. Your bible. Alright? And, and I'm I'm gonna throw this out there, and I'm gonna just gonna say it as it is. If you are using anything other than a King James Bible, that's unfortunate. Because the King James bible is the inspired preserved word of God for us today in English, and I will stand on that. I will and I you're never gonna change my mind on that. Alright? So you need to get yourself a King James Bible, especially if you're gonna be studying this the the dispensations, because the new Bibles are are pretty much amillennial, which means that they don't believe in a millennial reign. They think that, it's it's a long well, we'll get into it. We'll get into it when the time comes. But in the meantime, grab your Bible, Proverbs chapter 11. We've been talking about, things in reference to life lessons, from Proverbs and, and Proverbs chapter 11. You should be there by now, I hope.
Proverbs chapter 11, and, let's go to to verse number 30. Proverbs chapter 11 and verse 30. The fruit of righteousness is a tree of life, and he that winneth souls is wise. Alright? He that winneth souls is wise. Alright? Now, God's wisdom is, just generally speaking, a 180 degrees different from man's wisdom. Alright? Man thinks he's encompassed all of this wisdom, but it's not where God is, and and and or or what God thinks. Alright. Take your bibles and go with me over to, first Corinthians in chapter one. Alright. First Corinthians in chapter one, and we're gonna break it down here. Alright? Just a little bit. We're gonna break it down. So first Corinthians, your New Testament, right after the gospels.
You have Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, then you have Acts. You have the book of Romans, and then you have first Corinthians. Alright? First Corinthians chapter one and, verse number 17. For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with words of wisdom, not with wisdom of words, excuse me, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. Alright? Now, Paul's not degrading baptism. Alright? You see what he says, for Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel. So he's not degrading baptism. He believed in it. He practiced it.
But but he said that that was not his primary ministry. You see, his ministry was to what? It says it right there in the verse. To preach the gospel. To preach the gospel. Alright? Let's see. Is this the right one? Yep. There we go. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but unto us, which are saved, it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
For at for after that in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom knew not God. It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. You know, God doesn't care about Aristotle. He doesn't care about Socrates, and, you know, all the rest of the world's philosophers, whether ancient or or or or more contemporary. If you want if you if you want genuine wisdom, then you've gotta go to God's word. You've gotta go to God's word, because that's where you're gonna pick it up. You're gonna pick it up right there. Alright. So God's idea of wisdom is totally different from man's.
Alright? Now he says to win. Okay? To win souls. Now, that word win has a con has a connotation, of persuasion. Right? To win. Alright. Who won the Super Bowl? Okay. Who won the World Series? Who won the ball game? Who won a debate? You see, all of that that all of that word has a or use of the word has a connotation of overcoming. Okay? To win, to persuade, to convince. Alright. Go to second Corinthians in chapter five. Second Corinthians in chapter five. Just go one book to your right to second Corinthians, and you're gonna go to chapter number five. Second Corinthians and chapter number five.
Alright. And let's go to verse number 11. Second Corinthians chapter five verse 11, the apostle says this, knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men. But we are made manifest unto God, and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. Alright. So so he, Paul, the Apostle Paul was in the business of persuading. And everywhere he went, if you follow his missionary journey through the book of Acts, and there there's four missionary journeys that Paul went on. Everywhere he went, everywhere he went, he's he's preaching in he's either preaching in the streets, or or he's preaching in the marketplace, or or he's preaching in the Jewish synagogues.
And everywhere he went, everywhere he went, he stirred up controversy. Everywhere he went. You know, Paul Paul didn't just come in and say, hey, let's just all get along. Let's have a grand, ecumenical meeting here today. I mean, folks, he he stirred up controversy to the extent that and more than once, they tried to kill him. They tried to kill him. And on one occasion, they did. They were quite successful. They actually did. They dragged him out of the city. They stoned him, and they left him for dead. Do you remember that story? You say, well, well then, is that when he went to heaven?
Yeah. Actually, he did go to heaven, not Kat Ker, the pink haired prophetess. She didn't she didn't go to heaven. Paul did. He went to heaven, but God, you know, just just think about this though. Before just just think about the story. It had to be a bum deal, man. It had to be a bummer for Paul, because, you know, you get over to second Corinthians in chapter 12, and and and in chapter 12 of second Corinthians, he just lays out, you know, the whole testament of the whole event. And he says, you know, whether in the body, out of the body, I cannot tell. You know what he's talking about?
He was talking about, you know, we've all seen pictures in in in these, you know, grocery store tabloids. Right? You know, when you're out there by the checkout counter, you know, there's some ghostly figure hanging over a body in an operating room someplace, you know. We we we've all seen that stuff in the in, like, the National Enquirer, and the the Weekly Standard, whatever it is. That's kind of what Paul was talking about, in the body, out of the body, I cannot tell. But then he was transported up out of the he was transported out of the body up to paradise, which he later declares to be heaven, the third heaven.
And so so so Paul got up there and he and and he got a chance to look around heaven for a little bit. And then the Lord said, hey buddy, I got bad news man, you're going back. You gotta go back. I mean talk about a bum deal, right? You gotta go back. And so, you know what Paul did when he revived in his bodily form? Do you know what he did? Do you remember what he did? He got up, and he marched right back into the city where they just dragged him out to stone him. You know what? From from that point forward, Paul kinda had a a a, I guess, a a suicidal attitude.
You know, he was always pushing the envelope. He he he was always on the edge from that point forward. He said, man, I gotta get back to heaven. You know? I gotta get back up there. So so so so Paul Paul, he he he's in the business of persuading, and and the world considers the wisdom that he's utilizing foolishness. Foolishness according to first Corinthians chapter one, where we just read. Alright? So so so to win acknowledges a contest or a battle. Alright? You got it? Now, did you ever stop and think, why is it that all men don't come to Christ?
And they don't. And why don't they? Why don't all people come to Christ? Because in reality, he he offers the best deal that's out there. He offers you the best deal out there. I mean, it's it's it's a better deal than any religion offers because religion religion is predicated on works. Religion is predicated on works. You know, you gotta do this, you gotta do that. You gotta join my church, you gotta join their church, you gotta join the other church, you gotta join somebody's church, you gotta get baptized, you gotta go clean up your act, you gotta live right, do right, be right, think right. You gotta memorize the 10 commandments. You gotta obey the 10 commandments.
You gotta obey the golden rule. Or you you or whatever it is. It's due. You have to do. And they all, every single one of them have the various restrictions and expectations, or or or or or expectations. Right? Jesus said, come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. This book here says, for god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. But God commendeth his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Folks, you cannot get a better deal than that. You cannot get a better deal than that. Jesus said, in my father's house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. How does it get any better than that? I mean, it it it is just so simple. For by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast. I mean, there's not another religion on the planet outside of Bible believing Christianity that that has a better deal. So why doesn't everyone come to Jesus Christ?
Well, I'm gonna tell you why. Because there's a battle going on. It's a contest. Take your Bibles, go with me over to Ephesians in chapter six. Just, turn over to your right. You're gonna go from from second Corinthians. You're gonna go to Galatians and then Ephesians. Second Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, and you're gonna go to Ephesians and chapter number six. Ephesians chapter six. And we're gonna go to, verse 19. I mean, why doesn't everybody just say, man, that sounds like a good deal. Why? Why doesn't everybody say that? Now now now you can convince most people of a good deal when it comes to something like economics.
Right? I mean, if if I if I was sitting here right now at this moment, and I said, look, everything in Walmart is half price today only. Every single one of you listening or watching would be looking at your watch or shutting me off and on your way over to Walmart. You know, it's a good deal. Right? Everything is half off. Yeah. And you'd all be down at Walmart, you know, and you'd be heading for the, you know, what we know when they when they when they put that stuff on on half price, you know, I'm going to the meat section. You know, whatever it is. You know, you can convince people of a good deal in all kinds of areas, all kinds of arenas. You know, vehicles, insurance, and I, like, do you ever shop for insurance?
I I got a letter from my insurance company yesterday actually. I haven't looked at it yet, but I'm curious as to what it is, but, you know, but I'm always looking for insurance. I'm always shopping around insurance. I mean, you know, every couple of years I say, alright, okay. I'm gonna shop these guys, and and, inevitably, I I can find a better deal somewhere. Right? But when it comes to the gospel when it comes to the gospel, which is the best deal out there, why is it why is it that so many people are apprehensive or resistant or just flat out hostile?
Well, let me show you. Ephesians chapter six and verse, where are we? Verse 19. Ephesians chapter six and verse 19. And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in bonds, that therein I may speak boldly as I ought to speak. Alright. Now now he said this on the heels of explaining where the contest is, where the adversary is. Alright. Go back up to, go back up to verse number 10. Go back up to verse 10. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore, take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Alright. Now, in the past, I've explained to you in in pretty considerable detail, based on scripture, what each one of those things are. What principalities are, what powers are, the rulers of darkness, the rulers of darkness, and and spiritual wickedness.
Alright? I'm not gonna go into all of that tonight, but I have offered that explanation in the past, and those are those those are all emissaries and and activities of Satan. There is a force out there in the world that seeks to cloud the minds of men that seeks to cloud the minds of men and women concerning the gospel. So when when you get in the business of, of of soul winning, you have immediately launched into a contest. Alright? You're in a fight. You are in a fight. And it it it is it's not just it's not it's not like anything else that you've ever engaged in or you ever will engage in. You know, all of a sudden, there are these spiritual forces that are that are invisible to the naked eye, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist, because they are very real.
Very very vibrant. They are very very active, and they are absolutely 100% fighting against you. You know, I I can't tell you how many times I've sat in someone's house and tried to present the gospel to them, and then the phone would ring, you know, six times. And and inevitably, they they would say, you know, our phone never rings. Our phone never rings, and and it's rang six times since you're here. Oh, really? Really? I wonder what that's all about. I mean, you can you can document stuff like that over and over and over again. You're in a contest.
You're in a contest. Now souls must souls must be considered valuable in God's eyes. Why? Because wasn't it Jesus that said, for what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? So a soul a soul must be incredibly valuable. Alright? Now the truth of the matter is The truth of the matter is, your soul your soul is the most valuable thing that you have. The most valuable thing. Alright? Now now what is a soul? What is your soul? Okay? And then without getting into lengthy detail, and and again, this is something that that, you know, we've rehearsed before, but just for memory sake. Okay?
Your soul is part of you. Alright? That's number one. That is eternal. Alright? Your soul is the part of you that's eternal. You know, this body, this all this flesh here, all this stuff, this is just a tabernacle. Alright? It's like a tent. It's a it's a very temporary thing. And one day one day it's going back into the ground. Alright? Not me, I'm gonna be cremated, you know, but where do the ashes go? You know, it's going back into the ground folks. It's going back into the ground. From dust thou art to dust thou shall return. The preacher says everybody at the graveyard. You know, and and regardless regardless, that's the way it goes.
But the soul the soul is eternal. Now, what's your soul? Well, biblically speaking, the soul is the real you. You know, this stuff here, this isn't you. You know, this stuff, this this isn't really me. That's just what you temporarily dwell in. Alright? Your soul is the real you, and consequently it houses your heart, and your mind, and your will. All of those things are housed within the framework of your soul. Now of course you get you'll get some smart Alec that come along and say, well, what's your soul look like? Well, I'm glad you asked.
I'm glad you asked, because the Bible, once again, comes to the rescue. Alright? It gives you an answer. My soul cleaveth to the dust, quicken thou me according to thy word, the psalmist said. So my soul, whatever it is, sticks to this stuff, my dust. Alright? My dust, my body, it's all this stuff right here. I mean, didn't God make Adam out of the dust of the ground? And so my soul my soul sticks to my dust. Alright? Now it's it's been described like this, and and I think this is really good good description, I think this is an accurate description. Alright? You're you're you're kind of like, you're kind of like a tire. Alright?
You know, the old fashioned tires before they had tubeless tires, you know, they had what do they they had inner tubes. I think bicycles still have inner tubes. Right? You know, you break the tire down, you know, you you drag out, you know, you drag out the inner tube, you're trying to patch it, you're trying to get it back in, you know how you know what I'm talking about. So the tire is your body. Your soul your soul is the inner tube. Alright? It conforms to the image of the tire. My soul cleaveth to the dust, quicken thou me according to thy word. Now quicken, don't don't panic over what some of these words, are. Quicken is an old English word, and all that means is to be made alive.
Alright? So now you say, well, wait. Wait a second. Isn't man three parts? Yes, he is. Yes, he is. Paul wrote to the Thessalonians and he says, you know, body, soul, spirit, three parts. It's called a trichotomy. Alright. There's your there's your, theology word of the day, your trichotomy. Alright. Now your three parts. So the the problem is, an unsaved man, alright, when when when I say man, you know, I'm I'm not talk I'm talking, I mean mankind. Alright? Men and women. So mankind in general. So man in general, mankind. Alright? An unsaved man is a flat tire.
He doesn't have the spirit in him. Now, you know you know what Jesus compared the spirit to in John chapter three? He compared it to to wind. The wind. Remember that when he was talking to Nicodemus? You know, the wind listed where it will. Alright. So so, so you're going down the road. When when I when I was unsaved, I was going down the road. I I I had a body, I had a soul, but my spirit was dead in trespasses and sin. You find that over in Ephesians chapter two. So it kinda went, you know, like, you know, you see a flat tire, you know, went like flop, plop, plop, plop, plop, plop. Right? Right on down the road. But when I got saved, when I got saved, the Spirit of God entered into me and filled me up.
Alright? So you see how that works? Alright? Now there's something else that took place in Colossians chapter two, when you get saved. Now, remember the Psalmist said, my soul cleaveth to the dust. But when you got saved, God performed an operation on you. And you read about that over in Colossians chapter two. And and what he did was, is he took a two edged sword, which is identified as the word of God, and he separated your soul from your body. And he calls that thing an operation. Alright? That's what he calls it. Alright? Now now you know what that means? That means that when you die when you die, your soul is no longer hooked to or linked to your body.
It's now an independent entity. Alright? So and then you go back to Genesis chapter 35, all the way back to the beginning. Go to Genesis chapter 35 when when Rachel was dying, and and and and said for and and and Genesis chapter 35 says, for her soul was in departing. So her soul was leaving. Alright? It was it was leaving. Alright? Now, you know what your soul is in in in biblical terms? You know what your soul is in biblical terms? It's your ghost. It's your ghost. Say, I don't get crazy. Well, when Jesus died, doesn't the Bible say that he gave up the ghost?
Alright. Now even, you know, even cartoon carrot, cartoonists, you know, cartoon people know something about ghosts. You remember this? I mean, I'm probably dating myself here, but, Casper the friendly ghost, remember him? You know the little white critter that was floating around, you know, doing things. You know what I'm talking about? Casper the ghost? Well, you have a ghost, and that ghost is your soul. So so superstitious people talk about, you know, haunted houses and and and ghosts and, you know, look, I I lived in a haunted house in New York for a little while. Okay? I did. I I told you the story before, I'm not gonna go through the story again, but it's a wild story, it I mean, it it really is. It's it's a wild story, man. So, so so so you have a ghost, and that's really you.
That's you, and it's eternal. So so God says because it's eternal, it's valuable. He that winneth souls is wise. Why? Because you're not seeking the wealth of the world, you're seeking divine wealth. And those souls are compared to, over in the book of Isaiah, they're compared to precious jewels. Alright? He that winneth souls is wise. Alright? Now, if you want a legacy if you want a legacy and and and really who doesn't? Right? Who doesn't want a legacy? Go over to Daniel in chapter 12. Daniel in chapter 12. Alright. Gonna go back into your old testament. You're gonna go to, I just opened it up to Isaiah, so we're gonna go I'm gonna go forward from Isaiah. I'm gonna pass Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and then Daniel.
Okay? Daniel chapter 12, I said. Right? Daniel chapter 12. And, so so this is this this is the old testament version of of what we're about to read over in first Thessalonians. Right? But but, Daniel chapter 12 and in verse number three. And they that be wise shall and they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament, and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever. Alright? When you win a soul, you know what you've done? Sir, when you win a soul, do you know what you've done? You've turned someone to righteousness, and the righteousness is Jesus Christ because he is the righteous one.
And so so you've turned someone over to righteousness as the stars forever and ever. Alright. Now go to first Thessalonians in chapter two. So you're gonna go from your Old Testament back to your New Testament. You were in Ephesians, gonna keep on going towards the back of your Bible. You're going to go to, so it's Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and then you should have first Thessalonians. Alright? First Thessalonians, then you're gonna go to chapter number two. So first Thessalonians and chapter number two. Alright.
And let's get that. And, verse 19. For what is our hope or joy or crown of rejoicing? Are not ye even in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ that is coming? Alright. Now, in the New Testament, there are there are five crowns that'll be made available to be one for the Christian, and those will be presented at the judgment seat of Christ. Alright? The one we just read about is is is, you know, we call it the soul winner's crown. Now Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, and he said, you know what? You're you're my you're part of my crown. You as people, as individuals, you know, he had won them to Christ.
He nurtured them and he helped them grow. He helped them grow in the grace and the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. You see? So so to win, well, what kind of wisdom is necessary to win souls? He that winneth souls is wise. Okay. I got it, Lord. I got it. Why? Because we're dealing with eternal things. We're dealing with things that, that that will go way beyond this life. Alright. But what kind of wisdom is necessary? Alright. Go to Proverbs in chapter 30. So go back to your old testament. It's a bible study. This is what we're doing. We study our bible. Go back to your old testament. Go to Proverbs. You should know where that is by now. We've been studying it now for a couple of weeks.
Proverbs in chapter 30. He that winneth souls is wise. Alright. Now, what kind of wisdom is necessary? Well, certainly God talks about wisdom, so let's let's study it here for a second. Alright. Let's take a couple minutes and study this thing out. Proverbs chapter 30, and let's take a look at, verse number 24. Proverbs 30 verse 24. There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise. Okay? Four little things that are wise. Well, if they're wise, then maybe they're worthy of our study. Don't you think?
Maybe they're worthy of some observation. Alright? Well, what are they? Well, verse 25. The ants are a small the ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer. Alright. Well, if if they prepare their meat in the if they prepare in the summer, obviously, what are they doing? Well, they're storing for the winter. Right? So in other words, preparation. Preparation. They develop a burden. You see? And and it and it takes planning, and it takes preparation. You know, burdens, you know, you know, they they they can often be stepping stones to higher ground. You know, a biologist tells how he washed an ant carrying straw. Alright? I remember reading this some time ago.
And he's carrying carrying straw, which you know, obviously a piece of piece of straw to a little ants, pretty big burden for it to carry. Alright? And I'm sure you've seen ants do this. I'm sure you have. I mean, you know, that they carry things that, you know, that they carry, you know, that they carry things, sometimes that are several times their body size. And then you look at that and and you say to yourselves, wow, that's that's How does he do that? That's amazing. I remember as a kid, I used to watch them do that all the time. I used to And I would purposely drop little things along the way, so that it would I would see them pick it up and move it along move it along with them, you know. Well, this particular story, the ant came to a crack in in in the earth which was too wide for it to cross. And, you know, it it stood for a time. It was almost like it was thinking about the situation. It was like like pondering the the the whole thing. And then what he did is he he put the straw over the crack, he walked over this piece of straw, and then picked up the straw and continued on his journey.
Well, that's not too bad. Right? Not too bad. That's a lesson. That's a lesson for us. Sometimes, sometimes the burden can become a bridge for spiritual progress. Just think about that. Sometimes a burden can become a bridge for spiritual progress. You know, if we endeavor by God's help to live the overcoming life. And so, you know, sometimes I I, you know, the best way to deal with a burden in your life is to do something for someone else. Think about that. Take that into consideration, do something for somebody else. You know ants, I mean I mean they're amazing.
They're amazing, that's why Solomon told us on another occasion to study the ant. They are amazing little little things. According to John Silling, who who was a Purdue University etymologist, the ant is an exemplary worker. And he said this, and I quote, basically, the ant's entire life, which can range up to seven years, is spent working, said Silling. They gather food, bring it to the nest, and use it for day to day meals, as well as the store for the winter. Alright? Now this is this is really a wild deal. Alright? This this is wild. He said this, quote, in addition, the amazing insect can be adept.
Some species gather bits of grass and leaves and take them back to their nest. On this organic matter, which is used much like fertilizer, they place tiny mushroom spores and grow them for food. Oh, wait. It gets better. It gets better. Quote, but ants as dairy keepers? That's right. Some ants get the majority of their food by milking aphids or plant life plant lice, which are often known as ant cows, Says the scientist, the ants sometimes herd the aphids the aphids down into the ant nest at night when it starts to cool, then when it gets warm again, they herd them back to the plants.
Alright. Now that's what I call preparation. That's thinking, man. No wonder Solomon said study the ant. There's something going on there. There's something going on there. He's preparing. Preparing, preparing for the future. He that winneth souls is wise. A soul winner is preparing not only for the individual's future that he's witnessing to, but his own future at the judgment seat of Christ. He's preparing. He's preparing. So Solomon said that there are four little critters that are pretty small, pretty weak, but they're wise. So in verse in verse 26, he says, the conies are but a feeble folk, yet make their houses in the rocks.
Alright. Now we're not exactly sure what a conie is. Alright? But, there's some speculation that it's it's it's it's probably, it might be the the the hare, h a r e, of Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14. It it's a it's a possibility. You know, a rabbit like creature of the Middle East is the general consensus or opinion of what the coney is. Alright? Now, the but the the point of it is the point is, do you know what they do? They fortify themselves in the rocks. It says, the conies are but a feeble folk, yet they make their houses in the rocks.
Alright? Now now you need to understand that you need to fortify yourself in the rock. You need to fortify yourself in the rock. Alright? Go with me over to first Corinthians in chapter 10, back to your New Testament. Remember Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, first Corinthians chapter 10. You know, one of the most exhilarating things you'll ever experience in a Christian life is to actually lead someone to Christ. It's it's the most incredible experience, and and I I greatly encourage everyone listening, everyone watching to make every effort possible to do that very thing.
Alright. Now first Corinthians chapter 10, and, let's look at, verse number four. First Corinthians chapter 10 and verse four, and did all drink the same spiritual drink, for they drank of that drink of that drink, for they drank of that spiritual rock. Now, I want you to notice that that rock here is capitalized. The r is capitalized. For they drank of that spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ. Alright. So my Catholic friends, the rock wasn't Peter. Okay? The rock wasn't Peter. It was Christ. Alright. The Bible is clear.
Wouldn't you say? Alright. Take your Bible, go back to Deuteronomy in chapter 32. Deuteronomy chapter 32. So you're gonna go all the way back to the front of your Bible. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, and then Numbers, and then Deuteronomy. The fifth book of what? Here's here's your another here here here's your next bible school, bible college word. I'm saving you a lot of money with this. You don't have to go to bible school. It's called the Pentateuch. Alright. The first five books of your bible, the books of Moses. Moses wrote the first five books. They're called the Pentateuch. Alright. So this is the last of the five books. Deuteronomy.
Let's go to Deuteronomy chapter number 32. Alright. Deuteronomy 32. Wisdom from Proverbs. So keep on going to to the end of the book. Wisdom from Proverbs. One of the great lessons out of Proverbs is prepare for the future. Prepare for the future. Overshot it. Prepare for the future. And one way that we do that is he that winneth souls is wise. Alright? Now Deuteronomy 32, and we're gonna look at, verse, verse 28. Deuteronomy 32 and verse 28. For they are a nation void of counsel. Alright. Now now God's talking about some of the pagan nations here. Okay? Neither is there any understanding in them. And, unfortunately unfortunately, Israel had had bought into some of that stuff, you see?
Verse 29. Oh, that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end. How should one chase a thousand and two put 10,000 to flight except their rock, capital r, had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up. For their Rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges. Alright? So there's two kinds of rocks, spiritually speaking, in your Bible. There's the rock of education, philosophy, evolution, but now you know the deal, you know, they're inferior to your rock. Alright? Their rock is not capitalized, your rock is.
Did you catch it? Because your rock is identified as Jesus Christ in first Corinthians chapter 10, where we just were. Isn't studying your Bible amazing? The things that you figure out, the things that you uncover? Well, you know how I know that? You know how I know that their rock is inferior to my rock? Their rock, the the the rock of education, philosophy, intellectualism, evolution, and and all that stuff, it doesn't anger me. It amuses me. And some of the ridiculous things that they come up with, I I I I just find utterly ridiculous, but but it doesn't make my blood pressure go up.
But my rock, my rock angers the world. You see the difference? I mean, they get downright hostile to my rock, Jesus Christ, and therein lies the difference. All you have to do is study the reactions. So be like the Coney and hide in the rock. Rock of ages, cleft for me. Let me hide myself in thee. Yeah. I I I didn't sing it. I sing spoke it. Okay. You don't wanna hear me sing. Believe me. You don't wanna hear me sing. So surround yourself with Jesus Christ and his wisdom, you see, and and be like a coney. Be like a coney. Build your house on a rock, the rock, and you'll be fine.
You'll be fine. You know? Now there are a lot of people, a lot of people are hesitant to open their their their mouth too much for Jesus Christ, you know, in a soul winning context, because they're afraid that they don't know enough. And you know something? That's a false narrative. Folks, it's a false narrative. It's a false narrative that the devil has sold Christianity. Well, you know, I I've never been to seminary and, you know, so and and and I don't, you know folks, it's not necessary. It is not necessary. You know something, if you know three verses of scripture, if you know three verses of scripture, you know three more than the average man on the street.
Isn't that right? I mean, he may know one. You know, take a little wine for thy stomach's sake, and that often infirmities. You know, he he he, you know, he knows. You know? You know, three If you know five verses of scripture, man, you are sitting pretty. You're ready to go. You see? People have been convinced they don't know enough, or they can't answer the questions correctly, or they'll be embarrassed about lack of information or knowledge. You know, there's nothing wrong with saying, I don't know the answer to that, but that's not really the issue here.
And then be like a locust. Alright. Be like a be like a locust. Let's go back to Proverbs and chapter 30. Proverbs chapter 30. Proverbs chapter 30 and, verse 27. Proverbs 30 verse 27. Who wants to be like a locust? I mean, really. I mean I I mean, an ant is bad enough. Right? But a locust? But I want you to look in verse 27. Alright? Verse 27 Proverbs 30. The locusts have no king, yet they go forth all of them by bands. Well, they go in bands, yet they act like individuals. Alright? You know what a church body is? You know what a church body is? It's a band. It's a band, but it's a band of individuals is what it is.
They all sound they all sound alike, they all have the same message, they're frequently feared, despised, and they realize life is short. You know, some locusts only live two days. True. Some locusts only live two days, life is short. Life is short. But probably the the probably the the greatest soul winners or some at least of the greatest soul winners in church history were, the first generation Methodists. And way back when when, you know, the days of of Charles and John and John Wesley, and and and that generation that they spawned because, you know, they earned a reputation. And and the reputation was, if you're a method, if you hire a Methodists to to to work in your household among among the rich people, you know? If you hire a servant, if you hire a cook, if if you hire a gardener, you hire a butler, if you if you hire anybody that's a Methodist, you know, be prepared because they will not cease. They will not shut up, and they will not quit until everyone in the household is a Christian.
That was their reputation. Was. Not anymore. You know, and and a lot of people said, yeah, that's ridiculous. That's ridiculous. Well, you know what? They found out it was true because these people were so involved and engrossed in the gospel that they just couldn't shut up about it. They couldn't shut up about Jesus Christ. They were like the locust, you know, they just wouldn't shut up. Just kept going, and kept going, and kept going, and kept talking, kept talking. Well, the Lord said, be like the lotus. Be like the lotus. Okay? Then in verse 28, the spider taketh holds taketh hold with her hands and is in King's palaces.
But wait, a spider doesn't have hands. Right? A spider doesn't have Am I missing something here? Well, clearly, what God does is, you know, this is a metaphor. This is It's it's it's a human illustration. I mean, it it really doesn't take a lot of sense to, to to figure that out. I mean, just look at it. You know, a spider knows no limitations. Spiders somehow find a way to get into a rich man's house as well as a poor man's house. They just have a way of showing up. You ever noticed that? Did you ever noticed that? Now, man, we have spiders here, and my goodness.
My goodness. You can go around the house at night with a flashlight, and then on any night, a 100 spiders just hanging on their webs and so on and so forth, and you spray them. You know, actually, a few months ago, I I came, I had just taken my boots off, and and I saw this big big spider by the door, by the side door, you know, and, you know, I was looking at it, I was like, is that what I think it is? Yeah. It was it was a tarantula. It was actually and of course, you know, I have my dog, my my two kids here, my my my Charlie, my Bean, and they're looking at the thing. They don't know what the hell it is.
You know? And it was big, and I I honestly, I'd never seen one like that. I I've seen tarantulas before, but I but I I I I had not seen one like that. You know, the way that was just big. And, you know, as it was moving, like, like, on the on the on the wood floor, you could get, like, the little clacking of of its feet, you know, on the, oh, it was terrible. You know? So I I took a I took a can of of spider killer man and I just sprayed that thing and you know something, it didn't die. It didn't die. It literally ran across the floor and I could hear its legs, you know, kinda like scratching along the floor as it was running. So I I didn't know what else to do, so I took my boot and I just smashed it, you know.
And man, I I tell you when I did that, it just it just kinda squirted everywhere. It was just, oh, man. Now there's, you know, there's a spider and should have figured a different way to execute them, you know. Probably could have mounted him like a trophy. You know, have a trophy spider on my wall. You know, but, you know, the point of it is though is they don't know any limitations. They don't know any they they go anywhere and everywhere. And then you know what they do? You know what they do? They set a trap. They set a trap.
I mean folks, that's that's what the web is all about. Right? To catch a fly or catch an insect or or whatever, you know, they set a trap. Sometimes wisdom. You know you know what Paul told the Corinthians? Paul told the Corinthians, he said, being crafty, I caught you with guile. I caught you with guile. You know what real soul winners do? Real soul winners. They target people, and they say, how am I gonna win that guy? How am I gonna win that woman to Christ? It may take a it may take a dinner invitation. It may take a fishing trip or a hunting trip.
Be like a spider. Be like sometimes you have to set a trap. That's wisdom. That's wisdom. Paul set a trap for those in in Corinthians, in Corinth. Now now the notation is that, you know, all these creatures that he lists here, you know, now get it. All these creatures are weak. Think about that. They're weak. He didn't list the lion. He didn't list a bear or a tiger or an elephant, an ant, a coney, locust, a spider. They're weak. They're weak. The apostle Paul said, when I am weak, then am I strong. You know what God's looking for? God's looking for soul winners.
He's looking for the weak. He's not looking for the strong. He's not looking for the boastful or the accomplished. You know, he's looking for folks like us. Like me and you. Just folks like us. That's all. And that's something we can do. We can do it. We can make a bigger impression on our communities. We can do it. You know, now now here here's a secret. A lot of people try soul winning, and it's nothing more than than, you know, clubbing people on top of that. You know, you gotta win them to yourself. Think about that. You gotta win them to yourself.
And then, once you've won them to yourself, it's a whole lot easier to win them to Jesus. You know, just you just win them to yourself, you know, just a little bit, and then you can win them to the Lord. You know, take them to lunch. Take them to dinner. That way you can just sit down and really talk to them about Jesus. The night that I got saved the night that I got saved, the preacher that I met with took me to dinner. And it was at that table that he opened up his Bible and started giving me the gospel. You know, grease the skids a little bit. You know, you warm people up, they decide that they like you.
You with me? You understand what I'm what I'm what I'm saying? Warm them up. They decide they like you. He that winneth souls is wise, and that's the deal. That's it. Right there. Our heavenly father, we wanna thank you for today. We wanna thank you, Lord, for the wisdom of your book, and, Lord, we thank you that we have it. And that we can consult it, and we can cons we we can we can search it. Lord, we can apply it to ourselves and our lives and and use the illustrations and examples that you have given us to improve us and help us to benefit from the wisdom that you have provided.
He that winneth souls is wise. Lord, I pray for anyone under the sound of my voice right now that doesn't know Jesus Christ. God, I pray that you would open up their hearts and minds to the truth of your word, and, Lord, that they would see that there really is no better deal out there than putting their full faith, trust, and confidence in the shed blood of the lord Jesus Christ and calling upon his name for their salvation. Father, I just pray that those folks would make that wise decision in coming to the Lord Jesus, and we'll thank you for it. And we'll ask you to bless the week ahead in Jesus' name.
