But, again, folks, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful day here, and I hope you guys are ready for for a bible study tonight because, we're gonna be continuing on with our series in Proverbs.
Now last week, we talked about, dealing with fear, the wiz wisdom in dealing with fear. And I thought, you know, as I was as I was thinking about, you know, different subjects within the within the the the the parameters of of, of Proverbs. I thought, you know, well, you know, maybe the next one in chrono chronological order should be something to do with, with would be this, something to deal with money. Because a lot of folks have a lot of fears about dealing with money. Now before we get into all of that, just head over to our website, joeroos.com. You know, we take care of some of the housekeeping stuff. Just head over to joeroos.com, and when you get over there, head over to our contact section, open up that little web form, and, why don't you send us over a message? I don't wanna bore you with all the details and the tears and and all that stuff, but, stick around for the end of the show, and and we'll get into all that stuff. Now, folks, Ezra healing is a substantial part of the new wellness paradigm currently being born in North America and around the globe. The global citizenry are no longer satisfied with the, sick care version of health care.
Band aid medicine, endlessly treating symptoms rather than root causes must be abandoned as soon as possible. Patient centric care must be the priority. We need to transition toward the do no harm model of private care that places humanity at the forefront of real health and wellness care. In this new model, your entire lifestyle is examined and analyzed to promote and support the totality of your body's integrated systems. Ezra Healing is a solutions based health promotion and disease prevention grassroots movement that is always evolving to best serve you and your family. So head over to ezrahealing.com. That's ezrahealing.com, and make sure you let them know you heard it here on the Joe Ryu Show.
Alright. With that said, like I said, a few minutes ago or a couple minute about a minute ago, about proverbs and dealing with money. You know, usually most folks have a lot have fear about money. They worry about if they have enough or or maybe at least they don't think they have enough, or that, you know, money is a is a two edged sword in scripture. It's spoken of, actually in actuality, it's spoken of a lot more in the negatives than it is in the positives. You know, if riches are obtained with no sorrow attached to it, it's a blessing from the lord. Alright? Look in Proverbs chapter 10 really quick. Proverbs in chapter 10.
Proverbs chapter 10 and, verse 22. The blessing of the lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. So if God chooses to bless you with money, with riches, and there's no sorrow attached to it, you basically come out of there smelling really good. Amen? Because a lot of times a lot of times sorrow is attached to it. You know, there really there's also a necessity to realize that and recognize that everything everything on earth belongs to God. You know, it doesn't really belong to us. But what he does do is he allows us to use it for a while. See if you could find the book of Haggai.
Haggai. Alright? So Haggai is in your old testament. It's after Proverbs. It's going all the way toward the back. Let's see if we could find it really quick. Haggai. It's not one of those those books that we that we run to on a on a regular. Here we go. So, keep going in the back of your book towards you're gonna pass, Habakkuk, well, you got Ezekiel, and you got Daniel, Micah. You're gonna pass Micah. You're gonna pass Obadiah, Micah, all those great books, and you're gonna get to this wonderful little book called Haggai right after Zephaniah.
And it's Haggai chapter two Haggai chapter two, the Lord said this in verse eight. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts. So right about the time that you start thinking that it's all yours, it's really not. Alright? It's really, really not. It all belongs to God. He's the one that created it in the first place. Now I know he didn't create paper money, but, but but what he does create is is real wealth, and, he can distribute that as he pleases. Alright. Head over to Ecclesiastes chapter five.
So you're gonna go back to the left in your bible. Ecclesiastes. So you're gonna go back to Proverbs, and then just turn one book over to your right to Ecclesiastes. Almost there. Ecclesiastes in chapter five. Here we go. Ecclesiastes chapter five and verse 19. Bible says, every man also to whom god hath given riches and wealth and hath given him power to eat thereof and to take his portion and to rejoice in his labor, this is the gift of god. So if God's given you the ability to make some money, enjoy it. Enjoy the money. Appreciate it. But you need to understand that it was a gift, and it was a gift that God gave to you.
You say, yeah, but you know something, man, I worked hard for that. You know, I worked hard, and and, yeah, I I know. I understand that. But just stop and consider this, but but by the stroke of the pen of God, you could have easily have been born in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Somalia, India, you know, and it gets worse. So so the the very fact that that we have what we have, we need to acknowledge and realize that it's all a gift from God. Alright? Now, there there are examples of saints in your bible that had great wealth, and so predicated upon that, wealth itself is not necessarily evil.
You know, and and I'm I'm going to I'm gonna address, you know, I'm gonna list the addresses of of some of these scriptures here. We're not gonna, you know, because I got a lot. I mean, this study itself is this was a lot of scripture. And, you know, I I I have limitations on what I can upload here. So so, but, we're not we're not gonna take the time to look them all up, until we get further into the meat of the message. But, but I'm gonna list these here for you, so that all the lazy preachers out there that are listening, I'll save them a little bit of work here. They don't have to do the research for themselves. Okay? You see, isn't that nice of me? It's nice. Right? Yeah. Alright. Well, how about Abraham in Genesis chapter 13 and verse two? Isaac in Genesis twenty six thirteen and fourteen.
Jacob, Genesis thirty two five and ten. Joseph, Genesis forty five eight. Boaz in Ruth two one. Barzillai, second Samuel nineteen thirty two, the Shunammite woman, second Kings 48, David, first Chronicles twenty nine twenty eight, Solomon, first Kings three thirteen, Jehoshaphat, second Chronicles seventeen five, Hezekiah, second Chronicles thirty two twenty seven to 29. Job Job one three. Joseph of of Arimathea, Matthew twenty seven fifty seven. Zacchaeus, Luke nineteen two. And, and Dorcas, in, Acts nine thirty six. So these were all people in scripture that had for one reason or another, but but when we really pinpointed the blessing of God, the gift of God had accumulated a great deal of wealth.
And the and these are all by and large, you know, pretty good folks. You know, Solomon, you know, well, Solomon had a twist in the wrong direction toward the end of his life, but, and of course, he may he may have been considered, you know, the wealthiest of them all, but but God promised it to him in early life. When Solomon prayed, you remember you probably remember this, we talked about it not too long ago. When Solomon prayed the right prayer and he said, Lord, I'm not asking for for for wealth. I'm not asking for power. I'm asking for wisdom. I'm asking for wisdom, and the Lord said, alright I'll tell you what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna give you wisdom plus.
Plus. You see? Alright. So those are all examples of saints with great wealth. Now, there's there's a question that obviously comes to mind, and and and so the hearts of of a lot of people, and, you know, maybe it came into yours. Go into, go over to Psalm 73. Psalm 73. So just go back two books to your left, to Psalm 73. Psalm 73, and we're gonna go to verse number 12. Psalm 73 verse 12. Behold, these are the ungodly who prosper in the world, they increase in riches. Alright. Now why is that? Why is that? Why do the wicked prosper? Think of people like George Soros, and and and so on. Right? Well, a lot of Christians ask that question.
A lot of them real a lot of them ask that question, and probably most of them don't really care, you know, who has it, but they're wondering why they don't have more of it. Forgetting that forgetting that God, the the riches that are described to us as now now now here's what riches are described as. Alright? And and this is just this is just all introduction here, so, to warm you up a little bit, but they're described as this. Okay? Let's let's understand it. Temporary they're temporary. Alright? Riches are temporary. Proverbs twenty seven twenty four. Riches are uncertain. First Timothy six seventeen.
Riches are unsatisfying. Riches are unsatisfying. Alright? Ecclesiastes four eight and five ten. Riches are corruptible according to James five two and and, first Peter one eighteen. Riches are fleeting according to Proverbs 23 verse five. Deceitful, according to Matthew thirteen twenty two. Libel to be stolen, Matthew six nineteen. Perishable, by Jeremiah 48, 36. And, and first Timothy six ten tells us that the love of it is the root of all evil. The love of it is the rule of root of all evil. So after reading all of those verses, it almost kinda makes you wonder why you would really want any of it in the first place.
Now as as I as I mentioned earlier, or kinda hinted at earlier, the Bible has a lot more negative to say about money than it does the positive. Now again, it's not to say that that God can't, you know, that God can't use it, and and wants to, and that and, you know, because he does. Alright? But that's not all. According to scriptures, money often leads to pride. Ezekiel twenty eight five and Hosea twelve eight. Forgetting God, Deuteronomy eight thirteen and fourteen. Denying God, in Proverbs 30 verse eight and nine. Forsaken God, Deuteronomy thirty two fifteen. Rebelling against God, Nehemiah nine, twenty five and twenty six.
Rejecting Christ, in Matthew chapter 10 verse 22, and then again in Matthew 19 verse 22. Self sufficiency, Proverbs, twenty eight eleven. Anxiety, Ecclesiastes five twelve, an overbearing spirit in Proverbs eighteen twenty three. Violence in Micah six twelve. Oppression, James two six. Fraud, James five four. Essential indulgences, Luke sixteen nine sixteen nineteen, and, James five five. I mean, who needs it? Who needs it? You know, those are all byproducts frequently of money of money. Those who covet after it frequently fall into temptation and a snare, first Timothy six nine. Fall into hurtful lust, first Timothy six nine.
From the faith, first Timothy six ten. Bring trouble on themselves, first Timothy six ten. Bring trouble on their families, Proverbs fifteen twenty seven. And it cannot redeem the soul. Psalm forty nine six to nine, first Peter one eighteen. Okay. Now, yeah, I went through the trouble to lay all that out just to show you that God has a lot of negative things to say about money, about coveting after it, about making it a high priority in our lives. Now, with that said, you know, what should our proper attitude be, and our proper behavior be towards it? Because God lays that out too.
God lays that out too, and obviously it's something that we all have to have. You know, you've got to pay your bills. Right? We have to pay our bills. You gotta pay the insurance guy. You gotta pay the taxes. You gotta pay the doctors, the lawyers. You know, you gotta go to this you gotta go to the supermarket. You gotta pay your bill there. You gotta pay the guy down at the drugstore. You gotta pay the guy at the gas station. Right? Right? You gotta pay the folks at the car dealership when you buy your car, you know, you you you know, you gotta do all that stuff. We got we all understand that.
So God lays out an appropriate attitude about money. Alright? So let's go over to Proverbs chapter 30, and, we'll start there. You say start there, but we already started. No. No. We're really gonna get into it now. Proverbs chapter 30. So you should still be in Psalms. Just head over back to the right to Proverbs chapter 30. Proverbs chapter 30. Now keep in mind, this was written by a guy that had it all. Alright? Just remember that. I mean, he made Bill Gates and, oh man, what's his name? It just flipped out of my head. Warren Buffett. Warren Buffett.
He makes Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, even Donald Trump all look like, you know, like paupers really, you know. I mean, this guy had it all. All of it. Alright. Now Proverbs chapter 30, and let's go over to verse number eight. Proverbs 30 and verse eight. Remove far from me vanity and lies. Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with food convenient for me, lest I be full and deny thee and say, who is the lord? Or lest I be poor and steal and take the name of the lord my god in vain? Alright. So in the assessment of Solomon, the man who had as much as anyone could possibly imagine, as much as anyone could possibly desire, he said the best place to be was not where he was.
Not where he was. I mean, even though that's the the desire of just about every American that plays the lottery, right, To be way beyond where they are now. You see? But Solomon had already arrived there. You know, he'd been there, and he said, I'm not in the best place. He said, I'm not in the best place. He said, the best place to be the best place to be is to just be comfortable. The best place is is to just just have enough. Just have enough. He said now, and and and of course, you know, enough is, you know, I guess that's kind of a like a wide range of options, depending on who you talk to, but but think just think about what Paul said.
Paul said, and having food and raiment, let us be there with contempt. Food and raiment. I think it's probably safe to say that, you know, every one of us, especially if you're watching this or listening to this, I mean, I think it's to say every one of us has a whole lot more more than just food and raiment. And if you don't know what raiment is, raiment is your clothes. Right? And so he said, here's the deal, here's the best place to be. The best place to be is where you just have enough. You just have enough. If you have too much, you'll forget the Lord. If you don't have enough, you might steal, and you'll take the name of God in vain.
You'll curse the Lord. You see? You'll curse the Lord if you don't have enough, and that's and that's unfortunately very true. You you see it all the time. You hear it all the time. So the best place to be is just comfortable living. Just comfortable living. Alright? Now that's that's good advice from that that, you know, that's good advice that came from a guy who was said to be extremely wise and have it all. Alright. Now, Proverbs 22. If you're in Proverbs 30, so just go back a couple of pages to Proverbs 22. Proverbs 22, and, go over to verse number seven.
The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. Now, folks, I don't know if it maybe is obvious to you too, but there's a lot of truth packed in that little verse right there. A lot of truth in that. Alright. Go over to Proverbs, chapter 21. Proverbs 21. Just one back, and then go to verse number 20. Proverbs 21 and verse 20. There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man spendeth it up. Alright. Now the thing about it is, as as as much as possible, avoid debt.
That's that's what we're talking about here. Alright? As much as possible, avoid debt. Now, Dave Ramsey makes a living on what I'm just showing you here tonight in one night. Just want you to understand that. Okay? And he just basically repeats it, and he just dress it up a little bit, you know? But these are just basic sound bible principles as as much as you can, avoid debt. As much as you can, avoid debt. Now when you get into debt, you become the servant to the lender, don't you? So the best thing to do is to pay it off as fast as you possibly can. You know? Because they, you know, you know, they they front load these loans. Right? You know, these mortgages, these car loans, and all the rest of it. Right? So you end up paying a lot more than what you really intended. So avoid debt.
Avoid debt. Yeah, I know, but I want that $90,000 pickup. You know, what I find amazing is they're actually asking them for for pickups now, like $90,000. I mean, can you imagine that? You know, it's it's it's nuts. It's absolutely nuts, but you know you know, particularly to the young people of America, to the young people in America today, that that's that's what that's being pitched to. Well, can you make the payment? And that's all it's advertised is the payment, you know, the payment. You know you know you know drive a clunker, but don't go into debt.
Don't go into debt. Alright? Go to Romans chapter 13. Romans chapter 13. Romans chapter 13, and we're gonna go to verse, six. So I should turn there too. Right? Romans, you have Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans. So Romans is the sixth book of your bible, and you're gonna go to Romans chapter 13, and we're gonna start in verse number six. Romans 13 verse six. For this cause, pay ye tribute also, for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues, tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
Owe no man anything, but to love one another. For he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. Trying to avoid owing anyone anything. Try to do that. Pay your taxes. Do right. Go on and avoid debt. Alright? That's not all. Let's, let's go back to Proverbs in chapter six. Alright? It's a bible study, so we're gonna flip pages. Right? Bible study, that's what we do on Sundays. Proverbs in chapter six. Almost there. I have a fan over here blowing, so it's blowing the pages as I'm turning. Proverbs one chapter six, and, let's start in verse number six.
Go to the ant, thou sluggard. Consider her ways and be wise, which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provided her meat in the summer and gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, oh sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little of the folding hands, folding of the hands to sleep. So if you haven't picked up on it now, this is called divine sarcasm. Okay? That's exactly what this is, divine sarcasm. Verse 11, so shall thy poverty come as one that traveled, and as thy want as an armed man. So so Solomon basically begins this little narrative here by talking about studying the ant. Alright? And and what do the ants do?
What do the ants do? They they gather their food for the harvest, and they gather the food in the harvest to do what? To get through the winter. Right? So what God's suggesting here, very clearly, is have a savings plan. Alright? Have a savings plan. Be satisfied with comfortable living. Avoid debt and have a savings plan. Alright? Go over to, chapter 30. Proverbs 30. You know folks, this is really this is just simple stuff. This is all this is, just simple stuff. There's really nothing profound here, but, but it is profound because it works.
Okay? Makes sense? Nothing really profound, but it is profound because it makes because it works. Alright. Proverbs 30 and, let's go to verse, 25. Proverbs 30 and verse number 25. The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer. Alright. So so basically is they think ahead of time. They prepare ahead of time. You see? Alright. So have a savings plan. Have a savings plan. Alright? Now, my recommendation to to people has been, you know, for years, and, I've tried to do this, you know, at at least, you know, you tithe to God.
Alright? I I think it's an absolutely wonderful thing to do. You know, if if if he gives you everything you've got, it's not too much to ask if he for for 10% back. Tithe to the Lord. Alright? That's your first creditor. That's your first bill. Now we're not under the commandment to tithe, and as a new testament believer, but it's a good practice. Alright? So tie it to the Lord, and then you tie it to yourself. You follow? Alright? That's a savings plan. That's a savings program. Alright? I'm gonna get a $100. Okay? That's just as an example. I'm gonna I'm gonna get a $100. $10 of it goes to the lord.
Alright? And then as you grow in grace, more than 10 will go to the lord. And I know that, you know, well, certainly in my case, in my house, but, but that's, you know, that's beside the point. I I tend to give more. But, 10 of it goes to the lord, 10 of it goes back into a savings account. And You know what my what that savings account is for? That's not even preparing for retirement. It might bleed over into that. You know, praise the Lord if it does, you know, but, what that's but but do you know what that savings account is? That's preparing for emergencies. It's preparing for the rainy days.
You know, it it doesn't matter if if you love God, and you're saved, and you're just, you know, one of those, you know, hallelujah joyful Christians. You know, know, sooner or later your refrigerator is gonna go. Time and chance happeneth to them all. Isn't that right? I mean, that's just the way it is. You know, sooner or later your trucks gonna, you know, finally fall apart. You know, it's just it's just a matter of time. Alright? It's just a matter of time. You know, sooner or later your your your washing machine will gasp its last breath. You know?
Sometimes, you know, sometimes, and I really believe this, you know, the Lord isn't obligated to do it, but if you're faithful to him, you know, he'll extend the life of a lot of that junk. He will. You know, he can he can do it. He can extend the life of a lot of that stuff, but, you know, sooner or later, I'm I mean, now sooner or later the insurance premium is gonna go up, you know? It's it's just it's all the stuff. It's all the stuff. So rather than at that, you know, scrambling around at the last minute trying to figure out, well, how are we gonna do this? Well, we're gonna put this on the credit card.
Oh, man. You know, if if you can't pay your credit cards off every month, burn them. Get rid of them. You know, I had credit cards. I I I I paid them off every month or I paid them off every month completely, and I got rid of them. You know. I had one card that used to give, like 1% back, you know. And then, you know, I I discovered that, you know, you can get a credit card from one place, and they'll and they'll give you one and a half percent back on all your purchases, and and, you know, anything and everything. And then and then I recently moved my savings account to it to, to another bank that was offering, believe it or not, a 4.5% interest.
So and you look, this is just tips to do folks. I mean, you know, there's nothing wrong with that. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. And, you know, just as just as a disclaimer, I'm gonna put this up there. This is not financial advice. Alright. You know, do things at your own risk. That's that's the banner we use for the, crypto cycle. We we we have on Saturdays. You know, so a savings plan. Alright? A savings plan. Have a savings plan. Because sooner or later stuff is gonna break. Stuff's gonna go bust. Stuff's gonna go haywire.
And then rather than scramble around, you know, pulling your hair out, trying to figure out, you know, how are you gonna do this? It's always nice to have a little a little bit set aside for that. A little bit set aside for it. My my parents used to call it their God forbid money. You know, the God forbid fund. Alright? Now, I know, you know, inevitably you get you get to preaching like this, and and and people just, you know, you know, someone's gonna say, yeah, but I can't afford that. I can't afford to do that. I I can't. I just can't do it. Okay. But, you know, you could run out there and afford that brand new widescreen TV so you can watch the football game. Right?
Or the fight. Or, you can afford that brand new pickup truck. Right? Now wait a second. Now wait a minute. Now you can afford it. You can afford it. It's just that you've got your priorities all mixed up. That's what it is. You got your priorities all mixed up. You know, rearrange your priorities. That's what you gotta do. Alright? So have a savings plan. Have a savings plan. And then the the next thing I would say to you is this, whatever God gives you, devote to God's service any way you can. Any way you can. Whatever god gives you, devote to god's service. Alright? Go to first Chronicles chapter 29. First Chronicles 29. You're gonna go back to your left.
You're gonna go back to your left. Obviously, it's right before second Chronicles, so don't get wise. I mean, get wise, but don't get wise with me. Alright. So you got, first Kings, second Kings, first Chronicles. Alright. First Chronicles 29. First Chronicles 29 and verse number three. These are David's last words to the nation of Israel. Alright. First twin first Chronicles 29 verse three. Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have my own proper good of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God over and above all that I prepared for the holy house. Even 3,000 talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and 7,000 talents of refined silver to overlay the walls of the houses with all.
The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers? And and who is who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord? When when when Solomon was commissioned to build the temple, he didn't go into the project broke because his father, David, laid aside a whole lot of gold and a whole lot of silver for the project, he devoted it to the Lord's service, and then he considered giving it to be a privilege. Alright? Go over to, to verse 10. Look over in verse ten, twenty nine ten. Wherefore, David blessed the lord before all the congregation, and David said, blessed be thou, lord god of Israel, our father, forever and ever.
Thine, oh lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty for all that is in heaven, and in the earth is thine. Thine is the kingdom. Oh lord, thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come come of thee, and thou reignest over all, and in thine hand is power and might, and in thine hand, it is to make great and to give us and to give strength unto all. Now, therefore, our god, we thank thee and praise thy glorious name, but who am I? And what is my people that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come of thee and of thine own have we given thee. Alright. So so David, without a doubt, considered it a great privilege to make a huge investment into the things of the Lord.
A huge investment to the things of the Lord. And then finally, don't be short sighted. Alright? Don't be short sighted. Go over to Proverbs chapter 13, and, so let's go back to Proverbs 13. It's just a few books back. You should know where Proverbs is by now, I hope. Alright? Proverbs 13, and we're gonna look at verse number seven. Proverbs 13 verse seven, interesting verse. It's a very interesting verse. There where is it? There we go. There is that maketh himself rich, yet have nothing. There is that maketh maketh himself poor, yet have great riches.
Alright. Now, you could apply that to the nasty now and now, or you can apply that to the sweet by and by. It goes both ways. For example, you could find in your Bible many people who were, or or had experienced great wealth, for example, like King Saul. Alright? Haman. Remember Haman over back in the book of Esther? You know, the bad guy? Well, how about Pharaoh? Pharaoh or, how about Belshazzar over in the book of Daniel? They all cum accumulated great wealth. They were all rich, but they all died under miserable circumstances. Every single one of them. Every single one of them. Just go back and look. They were rich, but they were poor.
You get it? They were rich, but they were poor. Conversely, you you might remember the widow over in Mark chapter 12, who was was, putting her tiny little penny in the offering at the church house. Remember that? And Jesus was observing that. He was watching. And he said that, you know, in essence, she had a great deal more than all the big time Pharisees that that that have have, you know, plumped their fat checks down on the offering plate. You see? So so so she was poor, but she was rich. Alright? Now that cannot be amplified any stronger than in the life and in the ministry of the lord Jesus Christ himself.
For he humbled himself over in Philippians chapter two when he became poor. Right? Now now here's the thing. Here's the thing. He became poor so that he be so that he could become rich. Well, you might be saying, you know, but he was already rich. He's god. Right? Yeah. Yeah. But he lacked one thing. Even though he was god, he lacked one thing. Don't look at me like I'm a heretic. Alright. Just listen. He lacked one thing. He lacked a bride. He lacked a bride, and so he became poor to get the most valuable thing of all, the bride of Christ, of which you, as a believer, are part of that great body.
Think about that. Man oh man. You know, when you consider when when you consider what Jesus did to gain a bride, I mean, it's almost beyond comprehension. It's it's be it's it's beyond your understanding. He became poor. He humbled himself. He became a servant. What for? Future rewards. Future rewards. Don't forget future rewards. So the application of Proverbs thirteen seven, there is that maketh himself rich yet have nothing, there is that maketh himself poor yet have great riches, not only applies, not only applies to to the here and now, not only applies to many and and and and and things that you observe and study in life itself.
You know? There there there's probably some some little lady down in the middle of the Ozarks somewhere that that that lives in a log cabin that doesn't have any running water except for water that comes through a pipe from a spring on a hill, and she transports it around, you know, from station to station in a bucket, and she's richer than a billionaire. She's poor, but she's rich. She knows how to pray. She knows how to get a hold of God. She knows how to visit with the Lord. She's rich in spiritual things. You see? She's rich in spiritual things. But but then there there's there's an expansion of that.
That that just clearly leap frogs over into the millennium. There is that maketh himself poor yet have great riches. Alright. Now how could that possibly be? How could that pa You know, you get over to the judgment seat of Christ, and the Lord's gonna be handing out rewards, and those rewards seem to have their primary application to the millennial to the millennium. Millennial rewards, the thousand year reign of Jesus Christ. And the Lord in, in in Luke 19, Luke chapter 19 tells the the, the very very detailed parable about how that whole thing is gonna work. And, do you remember the servants? The unfaithful and the faithful, and and and how that whole thing worked out. And and one day one day, you and I are gonna be rewarded according to our works, according to our labor, and according to our devotion.
And and this reward is gonna be specifically targeted to that one thousand year millennial kingdom. Now, as I I've said it before and I'll say it again, you know, I don't particularly relish the idea of being broke for a thousand years. You know, that that just doesn't appeal to me, you see? But but there seems to be a stark reality connected to that as you search the scriptures. And, you know, I I've preached I I've preached, you know, an entire message on that subject. Yeah, it's been a while. I probably should do it again, but, probably does need to be dusted off a little bit, but, but it's important.
It's important. So don't forget future rewards. Don't forget the future rewards. So, what are what are our proper attitudes and behavior towards money? Alright? So let's let's rehearse that. These are all the things that we've said. So be satisfied with comfortable living. Just to recap, be satisfied with comfortable living, avoid debt, have a savings plan, devote what you have to God's service, considering it a privilege, don't be shortsighted, consider the future. Consider the future. So whether it's in the fairly immediate future, or long term future, future needs need to be considered as we deal with money.
You know, you've encountered them, I have too. You know, some people just don't have money since. You know, I I had a lady come up to me one time, in the church, when I was pastoring back up in New York or or AP ing up in New York. You know, I I passed her I passed by her one day, and she said, hey hey, pastor, can you tell me how to get some common sense? And I knew a bit of her history, you know, and I said, sister, there is no hope. You know, there is no hope. You just muddle through the best you can and, you know, no hope.
I just didn't think there was there was a lot of hope to just, you know, good night, man. Like a guy like a guy said, common sense is no longer common. Alright? Common sense is no longer common. Don't allow money to control you. Alright? You control it. I mean, I I think that's really the bottom line of the whole thing today. You know, be faithful, you know, be be faithful with what the Lord has given you, and and and and see if he won't return it many, many, many fold. And he will. And he will. Alright? Alright.
