Hey folks.
[00:00:33] Unknown:
Welcome to another night together. This is Joe Rusciello, and we are coming to you live tonight from the asylum studios, here deep in the bowels of Southwest Texas in the beautiful city of Eagle Pass. And folks, we are gonna do the very best that we can tonight to bring you the best quality talk radio we can muster without all the bluster. Welcome to the podcast. Folks, how you doing today? I'm excited to be here tonight, in a way. I'm tired, but I'm excited to be here. I'm gonna tell you why I'm excited to be here because got the new mic stand going.
So I got that boom out of the way. I got a new on air sign back here. But, when I put it on though, the only problem I gotta find a better place for it, because when I put it on, it can't see it. But we're on the air. We got a little setup here going that I think is, finally gonna work out. Not a % sure, but I'm hoping it does. Let's, fix that right there. Hopefully, now you can hear me. Well, I don't know if that really mattered or not, but but it's been, it's been a crazy day. Had a lot of lot of stuff going on today at work. Really, just couldn't wait to get out of there to get here to sit down with you guys and and kinda just go over a couple of the headlines, that went through today and, kinda get caught up on the Texas news, that we haven't been able to get to over the last couple of days because I went a little bit too long, got a little long winded, didn't exactly, manage my time properly. But here we are three minutes in and, still rambling.
Still rambling. Well, today, earlier, I was, listening to, Benny Johnson. I don't know if you've listened to Benny Johnson. I I like Benny Johnson. I like his show. I think he does a fantastic job. And, you know, it's something that we could aspire to here at the podcast. You know, we'll see. We'll see how all that turns out. But, he said something that that kinda caught my attention and, I'm debating if if I'm gonna open up this can of worms and, and send him a message or something. But, he was talking, Carolyn, oh, what's her last name? It just flipped out of my head.
Donald Trump's new press secretary. She just, she held a press conference today, and, she was talking about the the name change of the Gulf Of Mexico to the Gulf Of America, and, Caitlin Collins from CNN, was questioning the the motivation behind, removing the Associated Press from, the Oval Office during a press conference, with, president Trump. And, was wondering if it was something to do with the fact that that AP doesn't refer to it as the Gulf Of America, that it still refers to it as the Gulf Of Mexico and so on and so forth. And, Bennie Johnson made a made a comment that that that kind of bothered me as as someone who's a Texas first, person.
Somebody who is a, a member of the Texas Nationalist Movement. Someone that is in favor of Texas, someone that, is is is actively working with the Texas Nationalist Movement here in Maverick County. So I took a little bit of an issue with with something that, that Benny said. And, like, I'm debating whether or not I'm gonna I'm gonna email him about it. But, he basically said that, in in paraphrasing it, of course, that, he he was referring to some of the, the states here in the in The US that are, that were former territories in, in Mexico, and how, you know, we we call them, you know, Texas and California and New Mexico and and carry on with the with the name and so on and so forth and, they were changed from, the the what was it? It was Texas Tex Texacana America or something like that. And his point was basically this, if the Gulf Of America is part of the continental, you know, United States. It's part of America, North America.
So it should be the, Gulf Of America. And, and and America owns it, and, that's what it should be. And then he said that just like America owns Texas. Well, I'm I'm sorry, Benny, but, America does not own Texas. Texas, just like every other state in the union, is a free and independent state. Maybe it was just he got caught up in the moment of of his of his rant, and, just got carried away with it. I I I hope that's it, but, let me know what you think. Should I should I let him know? Should I send him some information on the Texas Nationalist Movement? Should I send him some information on TEX IT? Let him know what it's all about.
You never know. He might be, somebody who'd be interested in, getting on board with it. But, that's another issue for another time, and we're gonna continue on here with our show. So as usual, before we get into any of the headlines, I just need to do some housekeeping here. So I'm gonna ask you to do a couple of things for me. First of all, head over to our website, joerussello.com. And when you get there, head over to our contact section, open up the web form, and send us over a message. You also have our producers, our producers, credit. You get that with a with a donation of a monthly recurring donation of $18.36. And then finally, we have our executive producer credit, and you get that one with a $25 or more monthly recurring donation. So, now, that some of that housekeeping stuff is out of the way. Oh, by the way, next week, we're gonna be kinda hit or miss with the podcast. I think doing, five shows a week is a little bit too much, for me right now because my work schedule, you know, I'm not, I'm not a Joe Rogan. I'm not a Benny Johnson. I'm not a Dan Bongino. I don't have, you know, this isn't the only thing that I do. I have I do have another job. So, so, we're probably gonna cut it down to three days. Probably Monday, Wednesday, Friday, will be the show. And next week, we're gonna have, a good friend of mine, Wayne Rankin, who's also, the executive producer of our show, will be here with us in the studio, while we do the show. And that's gonna be a lot of fun. We're looking forward to that. He's gonna be here throughout most of the week. And, we're we're really looking forward to it. We're excited about that. It's gonna be a lot of fun.
Alright. Let's, let's get to some of the some things here in the news. I don't know if you heard about it today, but, I'm sure you did because it's huge. It's a huge win for, for the president. Tulsi Gabbard was, was, successfully confirmed as, the director of national intelligence, And, that is just that's fantastic. That's fantastic. And she's now, I think, the fourteenth cabinet member that's been up that's been appointed, or confirmed on the vote on, onto the onto, Donald Trump's cabinet. And, she had a fifty two forty eight vote on Wednesday, which was pretty much the party line except, of course, one particular Republican, one particular, rhino, the former GOP, senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, out of Kentucky.
He he opposed, Tulsi Gabbard from the very start. He's just a swamp creature, and just voted along with the swamp. So, and as you know, Tulsi is a a former Democrat, candidate for president, and, in in during the two thousand four election cycle, she, she she jumped on board with president Trump and, she left the Democratic party, became a Republican, campaigned with president Trump, and, is probably one of the more qualified, folks to ever take on the role of the, director for national intelligence. When you compare, Tulsi Gabbard to to any of the previous DNIs, I I think we hit a home run right here with her. Her military experience, her background unmatched, and I I firmly believe that it makes her the ideal candidate for the position of Director of National Intelligence. Hey, folks. If you, if you're listening here and you're and you're hearing a a in the background, like a buzz, could you just, drop a note in the comments or in the chat or something and let me know that you're hearing it because I hear it in the cans here and it's it's, starting to really bug me a little bit.
Alright. Let's see what else we have here in the news. So, yeah, but this is this is big news for, for, for President Trump and and and, his and his cabinet appointments. Alright. Let's see what else do we got here. Yesterday we were talking about the FBI, leak that, that, Homeland Security was, was had been investigating, and it, of course, it turns out that, this, this FBI person, whether it's male or female, I I don't know at this point. But, this this person was, an FBI agent and they were caught leaking, information to the, Venezuelan gang, Trandiyagua, ahead of the ICE raids that were coming. And, that's just that's just unacceptable.
An agent inside of the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been caught red handed, tipping off members of a brutal Venezuelan gang, allowing them to evade capture by US immigration and customs enforcement. President Donald Trump's board czar, Tom Homan, told Sean Hannity that he and, Department of Homeland Security secretary, Kristi Noem, have likely identified the culprit. Homan said that the suspected agent would not only lose their job and pension, but could also face jail time. They he went on further to say that, he thinks that it's that it was coming from inside the FBI, and, in, Aurora, Colorado, and Los Angeles, California.
We know the first leak in Aurora. We know the first leak in Aurora is under current investigation. We think we've identified that person under investigation. And right now, the California leak, secretary Noem, she's correct. Some of the information we're receiving tends to lead toward the FBI. A criminal investigation was launched, following the discussions with Deputy US Attorney General Emil Bove, which could further damage the Bureau's reputation at a very, very critical time. So, let's see if, let's see if the audio works. I'm trying something different here, a different browser to, run this all through. Let's see if it works. This is, Tom Homan.
[00:20:32] Unknown:
Rizar, Tom Homan. Tom, where are these leaks coming from?
[00:20:38] Unknown:
Well, look. We think it's coming from inside, and, we know the first leak of Aurora is under current investigation. We think we identified that person, under investigation right now. The the California leak, secretary Noem, you know, she's correct. Some of the information we're receiving tends to bleed toward the FBI. But I talked to the deputy attorney general all this weekend. They've opened up a criminal investigation, and, they have promised that not only this person lose their job and lose their pension, they're gonna go to jail. They're gonna criminally prosecute. So we're all over.
[00:21:14] Unknown:
Now, Pam Bondi, our our our new, US Attorney General, promised to find and prosecute those responsible for the leaks. She said it's not gonna stop our mission. It's not gonna stop the president's mission to make America safe again. We've already identified how this operation got leaked. Homan told Fox News on Thursday, and he will he said he will deal with it that that day. You know, let's see what oh, yeah. So a 94 members of the Trendyago, were arrested between January 21 and February 3, which was confirmed by ICE.
Now, you know, it's it's bad enough that they're tipping off criminals. It's bad enough that, that American law enforcement is tipping off criminals. But it also it's it's something that is incredibly dangerous, especially to the officers that are involved in these raids. Because the whole point of the raid is that they cast them off guard. If they're being tipped off, they could lay and wait, ambush the officers as they come in, and, it it would be devastating. Absolutely devastating. So, so we're we're I'm really happy that, that they move so quickly on this, and have already identified, where the leaks were coming from. And, we're hoping that they close this up as quickly as possible.
Alright. What else we got? I'm trying to move through these fast because I wanna get to I wanna get to the Texas news. And, I also wanna try to keep it down to an hour tonight. Alright. What about, Elon Musk? Remember, do you remember cringy Karine Jean Pierre, the former, White House press secretary? You remember how many times she got called out lying about what the administration had been doing? And I'm sure we can all remember many of them. But, town hall says during the Biden Harris administration, Americans were gaslit and lied to by the White House on a regular basis, including and especially by White House press secretary, Karim Jean Pierre.
Perhaps the most noteworthy and recent examples came to the end of the administration when hurricane Helene ravaged states like North Carolina and Florida. There were concerns about the Federal Emergency Management Agency or FEMA and the lack of proper response, especially when funds had gone to services for illegal immigrants. While Jean Pierre insisted that that was not true, such a lie on her part is once more resurfacing. So, so, this was posted by, Elon Musk. He says he says in a post on x, yes. That was a huge lie by the Biden administration. Funds were diverted from almost every part of the federal government to maximize the number of illegals in America. There also appears to be significant funds siphoned from Social Security. Social Security folks. Money that you are having confiscated from your paycheck supposedly go to help you in your retirement was being funneled to illegals.
So this is a post on on, on X, October 24 as the election neared KJP assured Americans that no FEMA funds were being diverted to illegals, and then the opposite was being told on the date of this tweet.
[00:24:58] Unknown:
And Funds used on immigrants illegally in The US. The fact is no money is being diverted from response needs. That's the fact. So disaster relief, this is a falsehood, disaster relief funds used on immigrants illegally in The US. The fact is, no money is being diverted from response needs. That's the fact.
[00:25:21] Unknown:
Alright. So that's what that's, I am having an issue here, of course, as always. Alright. Let's take a look at, at this post.
[00:25:41] Unknown:
FEMA relief, money to use, to use on migrants. So FEMA regional administrators have been meeting with city officials on-site to coordinate to coordinate available federal, support from FEMA and other, federal agencies. Funding is also available through FEMA's emergency food and shelter program to eligible local governments and not for non for profit organizations upon request, to support humanitarian relief for migrants. It's just categorically full. No Biden did not take
[00:26:12] Unknown:
So, let's see. So on the the first part of that clip was from October 2024, where she was saying Biden did not take any any money, and diverted. And then the second one was from a month later stating I'm sorry. No. A month prior stating that there was money available. Let's check that one more time. October 2024.
[00:26:37] Unknown:
It's just categorically full. No. Biden did not take, FEMA relief, money to use, to use on migrants. It's just categorically false. No.
[00:27:10] Unknown:
So October 2024, categorically false. September 2024, yeah, we're giving money to the illegals. Wonderful. That's wonderful stuff folks. Absolutely wonderful stuff. Getting busted time and time again. Musk posted throughout Monday about concerns with wasteful spending and misuse of funds, and the Department of Government Efficiency has discovered, and is looking into doing something about it, including more concerns with FEMA. Now, don't forget also, just recently, FEMA defied the orders of, president Trump, the executive order of president Trump, and sent 59,000,000 of your tax dollars to the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City to house illegal immigrants, which, of course, is a violation of the law.
And it's also which and it's it's also, just insubordinate towards the president. It's the the money that was spent was meant for now $59,000,000 and the the the folks that are suffering through the hurricanes in North Carolina and Florida and, you know, even up even out with the wildfires in California are getting $750. And like we we indicated yesterday, a lot of that's in loans. It's not even it's not even it's it's money that has that that they're gonna have to pay back to the federal government. But yet, 59,000,000 of your tax dollars, which should have been going to these victims, these Americans who who who lost everything, went to house illegals in New York City.
This is, from, Elon Musk. The Doge team has just discovered, this was Monday, has just discovered that FEMA sent 59,000,000 last week to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal immigrants. Sending this money violated the law and is, gross and subordination of president's executive order. That money is meant for American disaster relief. Another clip we got from, from George, from Behazy Tweets, Democrats are now calling Doge the Department of Government evil. It's ridiculous.
[00:29:53] Unknown:
They've loved their country. They highly, highly favored their faith. They believed in an America that was for all people. They get up every morning. They put on their clothes, and they come to buildings like this. He's not talking about American citizens, folks. To do a simple, nonpartisan job, and that is to serve the people of America with the best service they can provide.
[00:30:21] Unknown:
Sorry. I had the wrong clip going.
[00:30:22] Unknown:
Yes. They work hard. Yes. They play by the rules. Yes. They love their country. Yes. They cherish their faith. And, yes, they want a fair shot. What we're seeing coming out of Washington is anything but that. Every time you hear DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, you just remember, it is the Department of Government evil. Yeah. Over. And
[00:30:54] Unknown:
You guys see him shaking while he's, while he's doing this. He he his whole body is just shaking and trembling, especially when he said the Department of Government evil. Alright. Let's see. Yeah. We're we're doing pretty good here. Alright. So what we're gonna do, right now is we're gonna take a little bit of a break. Just a short very very short one. And when we come back from this, we're gonna get into some Texas news. I've covered all the articles that I wanted to cover for today. I mean, believe me, I had tons more, but I wanted, like I said, cut it down for the sake of time. And, I wanna spend the next half of the show on this, this information coming out of out of the state of Texas. So, folks, this is the podcast.
Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share it with your friends, your family, and your followers. Help us spread the show around and help us get better. Alright? And we'll be right back. Stay with us.

Hey, folks. Alright. We're back. Told you it was gonna be a short one. Got the Allman Brothers, Rambling Man. It's a classic. It's good stuff. Right? Sure is. You know what really good stuff is? This is, Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel. I gave up the coffee. That's alright. We're adults here, right? And it's, it's after eight. We could do that. Alright. Well, folks, welcome back to the podcast again. This is Joe Rusciello. And, we're we're still having these problems here with the audio. And, I'd unfortunately, I I think it's it's something to do with, the Rumble studio. And that's something I'm gonna have to reach out to tech support with and, try to figure out, what the issue here is.
But that's not gonna deter us from our mission to talk to you about what's going on here in Texas. Now, this is an article that I came across in Red State, today. Texas gains another big employer at California's expense. Now amazingly, the article says something liberal politicians seem unable to understand, when you reward certain behaviors, you get more of them. When you penalize other behaviors, you get less of them. And of course, that applies, to many things. And it's always an amazing thing to see when liberals choose to reward behavior, like say illegal immigration, and then they get shocked by, you know, just to find that their communities are being overrun by illegal immigrants. Well, the same rule, of course, applies, to businesses. California, California has become increasingly hostile to business.
Increasingly hostile, over the last decade or two, especially, with this firm grip that, that that the left has on, on on on the state itself. But, a lot of businesses in California and and elsewhere are relocating to Texas because Texas is a much more friendly environment for business. Fewer regulations, low taxes, it it no state income tax on on on on on on salaries. I mean, Texas is the place to come and do business. Absolutely. So, Texas here and and another major corporation that has decided to bail in California and move to the friendlier Lone Star Estate.
A real estate giant has joined the growing list of companies abandoned in California to Texas, realtor dot com. Now we all know what realtor.com is, so we've I've used realtor.com. But, realtor.com is a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, announced it's relocating its headquarters from Santa Clara to Austin. Now, folks, Texas is booming. Alright? You don't really hear a lot about it in in in the news, but Texas is absolutely booming. Texas, is is not only in in in as far as the energy sector goes, but in technology, in business, and just, in in, financial businesses. I mean, Texas is just exploding right now.
And believe it or not, you you even see that down here where I am in Eagle Pass. I mean I mean, Eagle Pass in the last few years that I've I've lived here has grown incredibly incredibly. And, tourism is actually, is becoming something down here. You're because we have, the the city is trying to, make Eagle Pass a sports tourism place. So they've invested tons of money in in, in a sports complexes. You have casinos down here, which I'm not crazy about casinos, but but they're here. And they they draw people. They they draw those tourist dollars, and they draw money. Several businesses, restaurant businesses, chain restaurants have been moving down into into, into Eagle Pass. It's growing, growing, and growing. Population's growing, it's growing.
So Texas is booming. California, not so much. Because and that's which is unfortunate because, you know, California really is a beautiful state, has abundant natural resources. I've I've been to California once in my life, and it it was a beautiful place. I'm not gonna say it wasn't. Absolutely never say that it that it's not. But it is just unbearable. The Democrats, the super majority that the Democrats hold in California have have ruined it. Absolutely ruined it. And and and, you know, businesses and people will continue to leave until things are get until things are made right.
The lone star state has also established new business courts to tackle corporate disputes, a factor that many companies find attractive about incorporating in Delaware. Realtor dot com CEO Damien Eel said that, he was also attracted by Texas' expanding housing stock, low cost of living, and growing talent pool of workers. There's no better place for us to call home, Yule said in the statement. Over the coming years, we are committed to growing, to growing our presence by hiring great local talent and by bringing new recruits to Texas. You know, I find it amazing that that in that in California, that they haven't realized this yet.
That this this message hasn't gotten through to the Democrats. And I and I single them out because they're the ones in charge. They've had they had the super majority for many, many, many, many, many years. But, you know, with the with the recent wildfires, with with everything that's been going on there, I know that they're they're trying another recall on, on Gavin Newsom. And if you look at the electoral map from, that just this past election, there are there are definitely more red counties popping up throughout California. I would think that probably within the next, you know, you know, seeing how seeing how well everything goes with, President Trump's administration and and what's gonna come after that, I I would think that California is gonna flip red very, very soon.
Very, very soon. And that's something that, I I am amazed at this point that Democrats in control in California have not yet figured out. Still have not still not understand that. Just still don't get it. But the thing is though, as long as, you know, as long as the Democrats keep a super majority, California is gonna keep losing employers. They're gonna keep losing population, and it's just gonna get worse and worse and worse. I mean, do you think the tax burden's bad now? Wait until the population decreases enough where they're not gonna be able to draw enough tax revenue to pay for everything at the current rates.
That's gonna be a very, very interesting interesting period of time. Alright. Here's an interesting piece that I've that I came across. This was published in on February 10. How many of you knew that, speaking of California, that California has a tax collecting office set up in Houston, here in Texas? How many of you knew that? In only what can be described as a brazen display of bureaucratic overreach, California maintains a fully operational tax office right here in Houston. The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, along with their franchise tax board, has planted their flag on Texas soil, operating as if our state's borders mean nothing to their revenue collection schemes.
Now just let that just kinda sink in to your into into your head. Just let it sink in for us for a moment here. California, a state that's become the poster child, like we're just talking about, the poster child for government overreach. California, fiscal mismanagement California, has a beachhead right here in Texas to reach into the pocket pockets of Texas businesses and residents who engage in commerce with the Golden State. You have California tax authorities right here in Texas. And if that doesn't tell you that there is something very, very wrong with the relationship between the states under this federal system that we operate under, I don't know what will.
The simple fact that another state has the tax collection agency here, right here, in this in in this state, should be enough to sound the alarm in your head. The article that I'm reading from here goes, rather than than respecting the sovereign borders of Texas, California has exported its bureaucratic machinery directly into our backyard, creating a spider web of regulatory compliance that ensnares Texas businesses. This operation in Houston isn't just about providing taxpayer assistance as as California claims. It's about extending California's taxing authority beyond its borders and forcing Texas businesses to comply with their labyrinth tax code.
Their auditors operating from Texas soil conduct investigations and compliance check checks on Texas businesses that may have even the slightest connection to California commerce. The implication of this arrangement are staggering. If California could if California can maintain tax enforcement operations within our borders, what's to stop New York? Great point. Great point. What's gonna stop New York or or or or Chicago I mean, I'm sorry. Not Chicago. Illinois, from following suit. What's gonna stop that? Texas could become, according to the article here, a collection home to could be a home to a collection of satellite tax offices from every high high tax state in the union, each claiming jurisdiction over Texas businesses and residents.
This is exactly the reason why or not the exact reason, but but it but it it definitely pictures the reason why, the the current federal system is is is is just fundamentally broken fundamentally broken. Under under that banner of interstate commerce, you know, states like California can can can come here and project their tax authority across the state lines, absolutely undermining the basic principles of state sovereignty that's supposed to be protected by The US constitution, not not granted by the constitution, protected by the constitution. The simple fact that that that California has a tax office here should should should be a wake up call to every single Texan who values our state's independence and our economic freedom.
We maintain our own tax system, and our tax system is designed to to to encourage growth in business. It was it's designed to encourage individual prosperity, And then we're simultaneously allowing other states to impose their tax regimes on our citizens within our borders. The article goes on to say that, the solution to this problem isn't complex, but requires, political will that seems to be lacking in Austin. The Texas legislature has the authority to restrict or prohibit other states from maintaining enforcement offices within our borders. They could require explicit authorization from the Texas government or any other states seeking to establish administrative offices, offices here, but they haven't.
That's because Austin is dysfunctional. That's because even though the Republicans are the majority party in Austin, the Democrats are actually running the show. Now, of course, as as somebody who is, involved with the Texas Nationalist Movement, somebody who is involved and and in favor of, Texas once again, asserting its place among the nations as a free and independent nation. I stand here I I sit here and I think, why aren't more people thinking in lines of Texas independence here? Texas the the solution to this the solution to this whole thing is that Texas needs to separate from this union.
The American Union is broken, it's failing, and as much as Donald Trump is, you know, I I love the fact that Donald Trump is in office. I I love the fact that that that conservatives or Republicans have control of the house and the senate. It that's it's great. It's fantastic. I love this I love what's going on. I love seeing what's going on, but it's I it's not enough. It's too late. The only solution here is for states to lead the union. Texas needs to lead the way. Something like this something like this should be a catalyst. This is this is, this is the current system failing to, to protect the sovereignty of the of the state of Texas.
And I think it's time that we really consider what we need to do to chart our own course as an independent nation. That is the most important thing right now. That is what we're working for with Texas, with the Texas Nationalist Movement. Remember, Texas is a process. It's not this it's it's it's it's it's a whole legislative process. It's not it's not just a name on something. It's a process. It's it's working through the legislative system to bring about a referendum, a vote on Texas independence. The state house needs to allow the the the TNM was was successful in the last, legislative session to get, enough signatures on a petition to get a ballot measure.
And through a lot of, political grandstanding, and a lot of, political shenanigans, and a lot of political, underhanded political moves, they prevented it from happening. The, the former speaker of the Texas House, prevented it from happening. But folks, there is more support now for Texas, for an independent Texas, than there than there has been for as long as I can think back to. It's something that that's that's inevitable, it's going to happen, and and Lord willing, it's gonna happen soon. But where do you stand on it? Where do you stand on it? If you if this is something that's close to your heart and dear to your heart, I would I would ask you to please head over to texitnow.org, or you can if you're on my website, you can go to the website there and and and look up, the TNM.
Just click the pancake on the on the right, and you'll see it. Click that. Scan the scan the QR codes. Register your support. Register, you know, register as a as a member. Join up. Make a donation. Volunteer. Let your voice be heard for an independent Texas. And of course, along those lines, we have our, Tex it FAQ for today. And this is actually a question that, I was asked today, actually. So that's why I decided to use it. And, not exactly in this format, but, it was question that came over in the conversation I was having with with a co worker and, this issue came up. And, folks, all of the information that I'm giving you right now from from these these facts are all found on the TNM website.
Just go to texitnow.org, and you could find all these things under the facts section, and you can read them for yourself. This is great information. It's it's a it's a lot to take in, but you should definitely need to do it. You need to read it. If this is something close to your heart, like it is to me, take the time to read it. Alright. So the question here is, will we have to buy our electricity from The US after Texas? Alright. The article says, the short answer is an emphatic no. Here's what you need to know. Texas both produces and consumes more electricity than any other state. Texas's abundant natural resources resources, including natural gas and coal and wind, are readily available to fuel our power plants. Texas is the is the only one of the contiguous 48 states with its own stand alone electricity grid, one of the three main grids in The US. The Eastern connection, Western interconnection, and the Texas interconnection.
The Texas interconnection, which covers 213 of the 254 Texas counties, is managed by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas or ERCOT. Portions of Texas near the state's borders are covered by the Eastern and western grids. As the independent system operator for the Texas grid, ERCOT con connects more than 46,500 miles of transmission lines and more than 650 power generation facilities, providing electricity to more than 26,000,000 customers. ERCOT's primary responsibilities include maintaining power reliability, ensuring open access to transmission lines, and facilitating competitive electricity markets. It's overseen by the Texas Public Utility Commission, which also enforces compliance with the state's utility laws and regulates Texas electric utility rates.
In Texas, several types of entities are involved in providing electricity to end users. The current structure dates from 1999 when Texas Legislature introduced the retail competition in much of ERCOT's service area. According to ERCOT, about 75 of its total power, represents customers in these competitive areas. In competitive areas, power generators produce electricity from fuel and sell it on the wholesale market where it's purchased by private companies called investor owned utilities or retail electricity providers, REPs. Texas has about 300 REPs. Customers can choose among them based upon pricing and various options such as emphasis on renewable power.
Electricity purchased from REPs is distributed to home to homes, businesses, and other facilities by transmission and distribution utilities, which own the actual poles, power lines, and meters. Texas Texans living in areas outside of ERCOT, the ERCOT grid or in areas served by municipally owned utilities such as Austin Energy, electricity co ops, and river authorities rely on a single service provider. According to the Legislative Budget Board, as of September 2019, '6 of Texas' twenty largest cities maintained their own utilities, the largest being San Antonio. Texas produces more electricity than it consumes, and maintains a buffer referred to as the state's reserve margin.
This margin ensures that we never have to suffer from rolling blackouts like California. Post Texas, Texans will need to transition to any non ERCOT portions of the grid to ERCOT while the state's reserve buffer while the state's reserve buffer could handle it, Texans will still need to increase its power generation, capabilities to ensure that we have the widest margin possible between production and consumption. The good news is that Texas is already expanding electrical production capacity as we speak to accommodate the growth in population and the greater needs of high-tech society.
Now, hearing that should, bring to mind why Alexandria Ocasio Ortez was so, adamant about Texas joining the rest of the country on that one, quote unquote, national grid and giving up its own, its own grid. And I am I am very thankful that that did not happen. That the reason being is because it would drain Texas of its resource. So, so you you gotta you gotta read these things folks. These things are so important for us to understand and to know, especially when we're talking to folks about Texas, about an independent Texas.
