So, you can't have one without the other, And, if you don't have the second amendment, you don't have the first or any others. So, that was the whole purpose behind the second amendment, to guarantee the right of the people to be able to protect themselves from an oppressive and tyrannical government.
So, but we're gonna get into all that stuff in just a few minutes. So for the last couple of days, I've got this, thing going on here in my throat. Now, like I said earlier, last week we talked about the first amendment. Tonight, we're gonna get into, the second amendment. And I'm and I guess that most of you are familiar with the fact that the second amendment is the amendment that states that the the right to bear arms and a free militia, etcetera, shall not be infringed. Alright. Now, some people would try to deny that, and try to and, and try to deal with the subject of militia. But, the fact of the matter is this, when our forefathers penned that amendment Folks, do you know who the militia was?
Do you know who the militia was? It was anybody that could pack a gun. That's who the militia was. Anybody that can pack a gun. So, they weren't always organized, they weren't always orchestrated, it was it was just anyone that could pack a gun. Now, the proof of that is what happened at Lexington. If you remember, we studied that. It was a that was the first part of the series that we were we've been doing on America's Christian heritage. So, when we studied Lexington, you remember the pastor there just called out the troops. Right? And they and and they and and they went out and they faced down 700 British troops, and there were only 77 colonists. That was it. It was just 77 colonists.
And, even though they were defeated, that was the beginning of the war for independence, or the revolutionary war. And so, whoever could pack a gun, they were militia. That's what they were. Alright? So, our forefathers understood that. Our forefathers understood that, and and and in understanding that, in effect that that every individual ought to have the right to bear arms. Alright. Now, our purpose tonight is not to study that so much historically from American history as to study it biblically. Alright. You know, you know, reverting back momentarily against our forefathers, they understood one grand and great principle that everyone needs to understand, and that is who gives the rights?
Who gives rights? Our rights come from God. They don't come from government. Right? Now, there's an awful lot of people out there in America that that have been persuaded and believe that the government actually gives you your rights. And and as as that whole persuasion has really, continued to develop and evolve, what we've observed is you actually have less and less rights. You know, because the government just keeps encroaching upon your rights. And a lot of people a lot of people are firmly entrenched in the idea, well, you know, government, you know, it's the government that gives rights. Well, pretty soon the government is is is gonna say, you know, you've got no rights at all.
Unless we say you do. So our forefathers understood that. They understood that real rights come from the hand of God and the mouth of God. And, yeah, we demonstrated this earlier on in the series, but, you know, the primary document that they studied, even though they studied Blackstone, and and and they studied even a little little bit of Greek, and Roman philosophy, they studied a little bit about the French, but the number one primary document that they studied was the Bible. The Bible. And so, it was the bible that actually molded and persuaded their thinking. So, it's incumbent upon us as God's people.
If we're gonna really understand this thing, we have to do it through the lens of the Bible. We have to study the Bible. Alright. Now, having said that, like I said earlier, take your Bible and head over to Jeremiah and chapter number 50. Jeremiah chapter 50. Alright. We're gonna get over there, and let me just let me pull this baby up here. So Jeremiah chapter 50. Now, in, in in Jeremiah chapter 50, and over in let's see where where are we gonna start. Jeremiah chapter 50. Let's see. I think we wanna start in, in verse 25. Jeremiah chapter 50 and verse number 25.
Jeremiah 50 verse 25. The lord hath opened his armory. Well, uh-oh. Right? Uh-oh. The lord hath opened up his armory and have brought forth the weapons of indignation for this is the work of the lord god of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans. Alright. So now, this particular chapter that we're looking at here, I should have put the scripture verse up there, forgot. Sorry. I'm too I'm too distracted over here fixing the window size, so I can see it. See my notes. So now, this particular chapter in its context is is dealing with, God's eventual judgment on Babylon, both historically and, prophetically.
And part of the judgment that we we we read about in Jeremiah is is yet to come. Part of it's already taken place. But the point that, we're gonna make here tonight is that the Lord has an armory, which of course, you know, he doesn't really need. Right? God really doesn't need an armory, you know, but the metaphor is used, and it's used to indicate that God has no problems with weapons. Alright. God didn't have a problem with that. Alright. Take your bible, go with me over to Isaiah and chapter 13. Isaiah chapter 13, just back up a book. Just gotta go back a couple pages. Isaiah and chapter 13, and, let's see.
And verse number four. Isaiah 13 and verse number four. Alright. Now, this particular chapter deals with prophecies against the kingdom of the Antichrist. Alright? So this is prophetic. Alright. But I want you to see what God says in verse four. Alright? Isaiah chapter 13 and verse four. The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people, a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gather together. The Lord of hosts mustereth the host of the battle. They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the Lord and the and the weapons of his indignation to destroy the whole land.
Alright. Now, the primary weapon that we read about in bible language, although, you know, when you read about, you you know, you you read about spears, and you read about bows and arrows, but but the primary weapon is a sword. Alright? That's the primary weapon that's mentioned. The swords mentioned in your bible. I I think it was like like over 400 times, or or close to 400 times. And never one time out of those 400 or so does God indicate that you shouldn't have one, Or you should give one up? Or you should sell it? Or destroy it? Never, not once, ever, at a 400 times.
You know, someone says, well, what about the verse, what about the verse that says, you know, beating your shit your your swords into plowshares. Is it isn't that the other way around? Well, no. No. It's not. It's it's both ways. Alright. It's both ways. And you and you pick that up over in the book of Joel. And what God is talking about when he says, beat the swords and the plowshares, that's all millennial stuff. Alright? That's millennial millennial kingdom stuff, when the prince of peace shows up, and, you're not gonna need a sword when the Prince of Peace is here. Amen?
You're not gonna need that, because he's got a flying scroll. If you think I'm kidding, look it up. Alright? He's got a flying scroll that's gonna go around keeping you safe. So so, that's that's what that's all about. Now, you see the United Nations though, that, you know, they they tried to adapt that passage of scripture, and and what they did is they they they plastered that on the side of the building in New York City. But they're totally out of context. Totally out of context. Why? Because it's the wrong time. Right thing, wrong time. Alright? Now, so the primary weapon like I said, was a sword.
But the Lord anticipated, as he can, the evolution of weapons. So, a word that's that's not used nearly as many times as sword, but it's but you still pretty frequently used in your bible, is just the word weapons. The word weapons. Now, a weapon could be just about anything. You know, a pen could be a weapon. You know, this could this could be a weapon. I can take your eye out with this thing. It's a weapon. You with me? So, so the use of the word in scripture. Alright. Now, let's look at some of the historical precedents for starters, and then we'll move on ahead. Alright? Take your bible, go with me over to Genesis and chapter three.
Genesis and chapter number three. Alright. Now, what I'm giving you tonight is a little bit more comprehensive than the average unsaved guy can get. Okay? But you folks are a little more adept at getting these things. Right? I I always say that, you know, our our audience is an exceptional audience. I always say that. I do, and it's odd honest truth. Like, my Bible's right here. I wouldn't lie with my Bible in front of me. I always tell folks that I have an exceptional audience, and you guys get this stuff. Alright? So after Adam and Eve, sinned and, and and the fall had taken place. Alright? Let's take a look in verse 24. Oh, it would help if I went there.
Verse number 24 of Genesis in chapter three. Genesis chapter three verse 24. So he drove out the man, and he placed at the east of the Garden Of Eden cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way to keep the way of the tree of life. Alright. Now, now a cherubim, if you if you if you follow this thing through in scripture, it's a pretty powerful critter. Alright? So powerful that, you know, he didn't really need to need a sword. You know, believe me when I tell you that. But the sword is utilized in the passage simply to indicate that a weapon is for the purpose of keeping someone out.
Do you follow that? Does it make sense? It's pretty simple. Right? Keeping someone out. You know, if if a if a bear comes knocking on your door tonight, you probably don't wanna let him in. Right? You're gonna want him outside the place. So God utilizes this phrase, a flaming sword, just to show us that this sword or weapon is for the purpose of keeping something out. Alright? Now, let me put it down where the cow can get the cabbage. That's what your 12 gauge is for. Amen? That's what your nine millimeter is for, right here. That's what that's for. It's for keeping something out. Alright? Now, let's go to Exodus chapter 32. Alright? Exodus 32. I tried to keep them in order, so it'll be easy to find. So, Genesis, Exodus, second book of your bible, and chapter number 32.
Exodus chapter 13. You know, we we can get into more recent, history to to understand that. You know, our British friends, do you know what they're concerned about during World War two? They were concerned about keeping the Germans out. Amen? You know, and and and then and you and you see, how do I I'm trying to think how I put it. I kinda lost my train of thought there. I mean, that's what the French were concerned about. Right? Keeping the Germans out. The French, they weren't successful at it, but it was a great concern of theirs. Alright? Exodus chapter 32 and verse 25. Exodus 32 and verse number 25. And when Moses and when Moses saw that the people were naked, for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies. Alright. Now, you know what they're doing here?
You know what they're doing here? So, Moses is up on the mountain, and he's getting the 10 commandments. Alright? And and so, Israel has gone just totally crazy. They've just left the reservation. They just went went off, you know, and they're they're, you know, just totally thrown all caution to the wind. Alright. Verse, verse 26. Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, who was on the Lord's side? Let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. Alright. Now, so who are the sons of Levi? Alright. Well, if you remember your bible history, Levi is the priest class.
Alright? So this is the priest class that we're reading about here. Alright? And that's important. Alright? That's important. We gotta note that. Alright? Verse, verse 27. And he said unto them, thus saith the Lord God of Israel, put every man his sword by his side. So, they didn't have to go to a central armory. Alright. They all had a weapon in their personal possession. Alright. His sword by his side. Alright? The pronouns mean things, don't they? Pronouns mean things. Alright? Where are we? Where were where are we here? Verse 27, that's 29.
27. Here we go. And he said unto them, thus saith the Lord God of Israel, put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his neighbor? Well, unfortunately, they didn't they didn't slay everybody. But what we are, and and and or I I think we could safely assume is they're they're slaying those people that were the perpetrators of the great misdeeds. Alright? Verse 28. And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses, and there fell of the people that day about 3,000 men. Alright. Now, who's doing the killing?
Who's doing this killing? It's the priest class. Right? It's the priest class. That's who we're reading about. Levi, the priest class. Yeah. You know, and they're they're killing the naked people. So, you know, keep the clothes on. Alright? Verse 29. For Moses had said, consecrate yourselves to today to the Lord, and every man upon his son, and upon his brother, that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day. Alright. So so the priests all possessed a weapon, and maybe more than one. And they did the bidding of Moses at the at the hand of God, and went through and slew the perpetrators of the worship of Baal, and the throwing of God into the back seat. And, you know, they just threw God into the back seat, out of the whole equation. Alright. Joshua chapter five.
Joshua chapter five. We're just gonna go systematically and work our way through the few things here in history. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua chapter five. Joshua, chapter five. Alright. So we're just going through this historically, then we'll make some applications. Alright. So Joshua, chapter five now as as as you know, at least I hope you know, the story of Joshua after after forty years of wilderness wanderings, and and and Moses had been denied the opportunity to lead the people into the land of Canaan, that responsibility ultimately fell upon Joshua.
Alright? So, the second in command now becomes the leader. And so, what happens here is he's confronted with the task of Jericho, and all, and all of the ites that, that are out there that might prevent that. Alright? Joshua is a warrior. Joshua is a warrior. You know, he spent his life as a warrior, and that's what he is. Alright? He's a warrior. Verse 13. Joshua five verse 13. And it came to pass when Joshua was Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, there stood a man over against him with a sword drawn in his hand. And Joshua went in unto him and said unto him, art thou for us or for our adversaries? Verse 14.
And he said, nay, but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come? And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and did worship and said unto him, what saith my Lord unto his servant? And the captain of the Lord's host said unto Joshua, loose thy shoe from off thy foot for the place where on thou standest is holy, and Joshua did so. Now, this, this is a very similar event that that, happened to Moses at the burning bush, if you remember that. It's very similar. Alright? Now, this is what, you know, if you if you went to if you went to bible school, they would throw these these these wonderful big words at you. This is what the theologians would call a theophany.
Alright? A theophany. Now, all the theophany is is an old testament appearance of Jesus Christ. Alright? And that's who he's talking to. That's who Joshua is talking to. The Lord of hosts. So interestingly, when you get clear over to the book of Zechariah, there are a couple occasions where where Jesus is referred to as Joshua. He's a warrior, a warrior. Alright. Now, here he stands with the sword in his hand, and he's called the captain of the Lord's host. Well, what what this is doing is it's it's it's is not only is this helping Joshua get a grip on the present circumstances that that he's dealing with, but he's looking down prophetically at what the Lord's gonna be doing someday when he returns as the Lord of hosts in Revelation chapter 19.
And when he comes back in Revelation chapter 19, he's gonna have a whole army behind him with a great sword. A great sword. Alright? So it's clear that Joshua or Jesus shows up with a sword. Oh, but that's not the tender, compassionate, loving, all forgiving Jesus that the liberals would love to have you think. There's something else going on here. There's something else going on here, you know? Alright. Let's go to first Samuel. First Samuel, Joshua, Judges, then you get Ruth. Then after Ruth, you got first Samuel. First Samuel chapter 21. First Samuel chapter 21.
That's a Bible study, this is what we do, right? I know the last couple of shows we didn't really get into too much Bible, but first Samuel chapter 21. You know, one of the great things about your bible is is is, you know, you couldn't cut you couldn't study your bible from beginning to end, and come to the conclusion. And and I'm talking about studying the bible now. Alright? You couldn't do it from beginning to end, and come to the conclusion that God doesn't want you to have any weapons. Alright? You absolutely just could not do that. And be legitimate, be honest about your study. Alright?
That right that right comes from God. Now, and and and God took that right away by the way, from ancient Israel periodically. Why? Because of their disobedience. Because of the disobedience. You know, in disobedience, they lost that right, and their enemies and their adversaries dominated them from time to time, because they disobeyed the Lord. Alright? God help America, man. God help America. Alright. Now, first Samuel 21 I said 21. Right? Yeah. First Samuel 21, David here is he he's he's out on a mission, And, and he finds himself, due to kinda some strange circumstances without a weapon.
And, you know, he's feeling like he needs one. So where does he go? Alright. Verse eight of first Samuel 21. And David said unto Ahimelech, and is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? For I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me because the king's business required haste. Alright. Now, who is Ahimelech? Who's Ahimelech? Well, Ahimelech is the high priest. Alright. So once again, what we're seeing here, we see the priest entering into the equation of weapons. Well, I mean, that that's that's, you know, kind of contradictory to the lace on the underwear clergy class that we have in America today, isn't it?
I mean, that just doesn't seem compatible. Alright. Now, verse, verse nine. First Samuel 21 verse nine. And the priest said, the sword of Goliath, the Philistine, whom thou sluest in the Valley Of Elah, behold it is here wrapped in a in a cloth behind the ephod. If thou will take that, take it. For there is no other save that here. And David said, there is none like that. Give it me. Alright. Well, if if it's Goliath's sword, there's prob there there probably wasn't any others like that. That thing was probably about eight foot long, you know? But David said, I'll take it, man. I'll take it. Now, the only point being here is, not only does David need some weapons, but it's the priest that's holding Goliath's sword.
So, there seems to be some connection that that, we'll continue to see develop in these, you know, between the spiritual and the physical. The spiritual, the priests are dispensing weapons. Strange thing, right? It's a strange thing. Alright. Second Chronicles. Keep going forward in your Bible. You're gonna go to second Samuel, first Kings, second Kings, and then first Chronicles, and then second Chronicles. Second Chronicles chapter 22. Second Chronicles 20 now here's a story, man. This is a story. Second Chronicles 22. And and for you to really gain appreciation or or a full appreciation for it, you need you need to you need to really read this entire story.
You know, the chapter before and the chapter after this chapter. Because we we don't really have that much time to dwell on the whole thing. So, but what what we're going to, we're just gonna take a look at a little bit of it. Alright? Now, what this story is about is the overthrow of the government, orchestrated by a priest with God's blessings. Now, now, most people don't know this story, But but this is really this is a great story. Alright. Second Chronicles 22. Let's pick it up in, verse number 10. Second Chronicles 22 and verse number 10.
But when Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah. Alright. So this man, Ahaziah, in in in the earlier chapters in in in the narrative, it tells us that his mother, Athaliah, was his primary counselor. I mean, this woman this woman was wicked to the core. Wicked. I mean, she's a murderer. And, after her son was dead, she wanted to make sure that the royal seed of the house of Judah was dead, so that there could be no successor. And she then could be the head honcho.
So, you know, in some cases, she was willing to kill her own grandchildren so that she could run the kingdom. That's the kind of woman that we're talking about right here. That's the kind of woman we're talking about right here. Alright? But but, I'm sorry. My screen is messed up here. Let me do this. Okay. But Jehoshaphat, the daughter of the king, took Joash, the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, and put put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshaphat, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada, the priest, for she was sister she was the sister of Ahaziah, hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.
And he was with them, hid in the house of God six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land, and Athaliah reigned over the land. Alright. Now, if you got all those names confused, you saw that I was getting a little flustered over them too. Just, you know, when you have a chance, just just read them about 12 times, you'll get them all sorted out. Okay? You'll figure it all out. But, so, so yeah. Okay. So she took this young boy of this of the royal seed in in the lineage of David, destined to be a king, and hid him from the wrath of Athaliah. And so, Athaliah was what?
Let's go to verse nope. And verse 12, and he was hid with them in the house of God six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land. So so Hillary here, I mean, I'm sorry. A little slip there. So she so Athaliah was calling the shots for six years, and she was loving it. I mean, loving it. Make no mistake about that. She was loving this. Alright. Now, let's go to chapter 23. Chapter 23 and, verse one. Chapter 23 verse one. And in the seventh year, Jehoiada strengthened himself and took the captains of hundreds. Alright. So what Jehoiada, the priest is doing is organizing, like, a mini army.
Alright. And and what's he gonna do with this mini army? Well, he's gonna install this young man six years later as the king. The rightful king. You see? Alright. Let's let's pick it up over down in verse, in verse seven. And the Levites alright. Now these are these are are the instructions that he that he gave them. The Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapon in his hand, and whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be put to death. But be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.
Alright. So again, this priest class, this priest class, it it's it's the priest class that that that are packing the weapons. Alright? And it says, and their weapons, the the personal pronoun, his. You see, so they're not issued. They're packing these weapons. These are their weapons. And, let's go to verse eight. So the Levites and all of Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada, the priest had commanded, and took every man, his men that were to come in on the Sabbath with them that were to go out on the Sabbath, for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses. Moreover, Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds, spears, and bucklers, and shields that had been King David's, which were in the house of God. Alright. So, you know, basically, you know, if you guys are short armor or ammo, I've got more. That's basically what he's saying there. If you're short ammo, I got it. I mean, we're distributing we're distributing a whole bunch of extra.
Alright? Verse 10. And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar, and the temple by the king round about. Verse 11. And then they brought out the king's son and put upon him the a crown, the crown, and gave him the testimony and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him and said alright. Now here's a phrase that the English are very familiar with. Alright? And said, God save the king. You ever wonder where that came from? Well, it came right out of your bible.
God save the king. That's where it came from. So and that's what they're saying. Alright? And then, now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running, and praising the king, she came to the peep she came to the people into the house of the Lord. Alright. So here she is. She's checking her emails. She said, alright. What's going on here? Some of you didn't get that, but that's okay. And she looked, and behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entering in, and the princes, and the trumpets by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets also the singers with instruments of music and such as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes and said, treason, treason.
Well, how about that? How about that? Now, notice that the people here are rejoicing. Alright? Notice the people are happy. They're finally, in their mind's eye, you know, I'm gonna get rid of this this treasonous individual. Verse 14. Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of captains of hundreds that were set over the host and said unto them, have her fourth of the ranges, and who so followeth her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said, slay her not in the house of the Lord. Don't kill her in the temple. That's what he's saying. Don't kill her in the temple.
So they laid hands on her, and when she was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king's house, they slew her there. Well, that was the end of that right then and there. Alright? So you see you see what's going on here. We have an overthrow of an existing government, and it was activated by the priest class, all packing their own weapons. It's pretty interesting, no? That's pretty interesting. So, so the whole thing was activated by a priest. You know what we got going on right here? We have the second amendment in action. That's what take that's what's taking place. The second amendment in action. Alright? Let's go over to Nehemiah and chapter number four.
Nehemiah chapter four. We really gotta get moving here, but, got a lot more ground to cover. So you got the second Chronicles, then you have, Ezra. Just keep going to your, keep going to your right. Second Chronicles, Ezra, and then you have Nehemiah. Alright. Nehemiah and chapter number four. Now, if you don't know the whole story in Nehemiah, I hope you do, but just for a little bit of refreshing, Nehemiah led a group of, Israeli captives that were in, Babylonian and Persian captivity by the permission of the Persian King, back to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls of the city of Jerusalem to provide protection for the Jews that had immigrated there previously under Zerubbabel and Ezra.
Okay? And, that's an overwhelming task. That's a huge task. They mean these walls are broken down, they need to be rebuilt. And so, he's met with a lot of adversity. A lot of adversity. There were residents in the land, we'll call them Palestinians. Alright? And they were opposed naturally to any building that the Jews were doing. Alright? Sound familiar? I mean, it's Folks, it's just history recycling itself. Remember what that remember what I've what I've said many many times that that I got from a much wiser man. You know, if there's one thing that men don't learn from history, it's that men don't learn from history. And so, so here they are, they were opposed to this building program, and so they they tried all kinds of tricks.
To to detour, and to detract, and sidetrack Nehemiah from the task, which he refused, refused to be sidekick sidetracked. Alright? Let's look at verse 13. Verse number 13. Nehemiah chapter, four verse 13. Therefore, set I in the lower places behind the wall and on the higher places. I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows. And I looked and rose up and said unto the nobles and to the rulers and to the rest of the people, be not ye afraid of them. Remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.
You know, it's not wrong to fight for your family, folks. That's not wrong. And it came to pass when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to naught, that we returned. All of us to the wall, everyone, unto his work. And it came to pass that from that time forth, that half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the haber habergeons. I'm not sure exactly what that is. And the rulers were behind all the houses, all the house of Judah. They which build it on the wall, and they that bear burdens, with those that laded every one of his hands, wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.
Now, these guys aren't officially soldiers. They're not trained marines. Alright? This isn't an army per se. These are workmen. These are laymen. The the the these are stone layers. These are masons. These are carpenters. And they're working on a wall just to try to get the thing up in the air to provide some protection for the resident Jews that had immigrated back. But, Nehemiah says, necessity is pressing on us. And then he said, here's the way you're gonna do it. You're gonna have a weapon in one hand, and your trowel in the other.
So, in other words, constant vigilance. Constant vigilance. Be ready. Be ready. Be ready. You can't be ready if you don't have a weapon. You see, so it was it was very, very necessary. Very necessary. Alright. Let's, let's let's talk a little bit about reasons for weapon ownership. Reasons for weapon ownership. Go over to Song of Solomon. You're in Nehemiah. Just keep going over to, to your right. I'm gonna pass Esther and Job and Psalms, Proverbs. And then you're gonna have Ecclesiastes right after Proverbs. And then you have the Song of Solomon.
You don't hear a lot of preaching out of Song of Solomon for some reason, which is sad. It's it's really sad. The Song of Solomon is such a rich, rich, rich book prophetically. It's it's amazing book. Alright. Song of Solomon. You know, we've had a little bit of a history lesson here now, but, let's, let let's consider a couple of reasons why God would not be opposed to honest, legitimate people having weapons. Alright? Now, this is a fascinating little passage here in the Song of Solomon. And it has to do with it has to do with Solomon, but but, you know, the whole book of the Song of Solomon has to do with, well, it's a it's a metaphoric picture of a much larger picture. Okay? If that makes sense to you.
And and the larger picture is, Jesus Christ and his bride. So that's what's really being demonstrated here. Now let's pick this up here in verse, what did I say? Verse six. Song of Solomon three and verse six. Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke? Well, I can show you who that is with with with a lot of companion scriptures, and that's that's talking about the second advent. Alright? So that's how Jesus Christ is gonna show up out of the wilderness, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, and with all powders of the merchant.
Behold his bed, which is Solomon's. Alright. Now, he's talking about Solomon, but, Solomon is just a picture of something far grander. Threescore valiant men are about it, of the valiant of Israel. They all hold swords being expert in war. Alright? Every man hath his sword upon his thigh. Because of what? Fear in the night. Reason for having a weapon. You know, the the majority of atrocities of this nature happen when? They happen at night. You know, so because with because with fear in the night. So here here's an air of legitimacy lended toward having a weapon because of fear in the night. Now, out where I live, even though it's down 70%, well, more than that now, but, you know, I'm very concerned about illegals coming through the border. And I have been. I've been very vocal about it. It's almost zero now.
At the time that I built this outline, it was about 70%, so I just read what I had in my notes. Sorry. I didn't update it. But but the concern for illegal immigrants is coming through the borders is extremely high. And, you know, I have windows around my house here. They're not very high right off the deck. And, I mean, you know, so someone could very easily just come up on the property, and and well, you know, there he is. So I have to be ready for that. Right? Just in case. Just in case. So I have my firearm right next to me, loaded with one forty seven grain jacketed hollow points.
It's the way to go, and that'll do some damage, boy. That'll do some damage. Alright. There's another reason for weapon ownership. Go over to Luke, your New Testament. Luke chapter 11. Luke chapter 11. So New Testament now, Matthew, Mark, Luke, third book of your New Testament. Luke chapter 11. Now, Jesus is just, just makes a passing comment here. Alright? And he's actually talking in its context about the devil. And it's about the devil versus the Lord. But in the middle of that, he he makes an interesting little application. Alright? Luke 22 and, no. I'm sorry. Luke 11.
Luke 11. I'm getting I'm getting a little ahead of myself there. Luke 11 and verse 21. Luke 11 verse 21. When a strong man armed keepeth his plate his palace, his goods are in peace. But when a stronger than he shall come upon him and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armor wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoil. Alright. So the idea of the thing is this, in in the estimation of Jesus Christ, a strong man who's armed is in a better position than one who isn't. Alright. You know what Jesus was? Jesus Christ was the king of common sense.
You know, because that's all that is. That's just common sense. That's common sense. Alright? So so those are a couple of reasons that we have for for weapon ownership. But now we now we're gonna get to some instructions from the New Testament. Alright? And that's gonna be our last point. Instructions from the New Testament. Go with me to Matthew chapter 10. First book in your New Testament, Matthew. Just go back two books. Few pages. Matthew chapter 10. Jesus says something here that is utterly and absolutely revolutionary. I mean, this is wild and crazy.
Matthew 10, and we're gonna go to verse, let me see. Verse verse 34 of Matthew chapter 10. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth. I came not to send peace, but a sword. Now again, to appreciate the comments of Jesus here, and and a lot of other places, you have to have the ability to rightly divide the word of truth. Because because one day Jesus is gonna come, and he's gonna institute and install peace on this earth, and goodwill toward men. Is he not? But do you know how that's gonna be initiated? It's gonna be initiated with the sword at the battle of Armageddon, where his enemies are defeated.
Alright? But in the meantime, Jesus is indicating here that he didn't come to bring peace, but a sword. Alright? That's interesting. Look at verse 35. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against the mother-in-law, and a man's foes shall be they of his own household. Well, you know what? Honestly, for those of you that are saved, and and those of you that know the Lord, you've probably discovered that. You've probably learned that. And if you haven't, God bless you. God bless you, but you know what? Most of us have discovered that, you know, in many cases, you get more opposition from, for the things of the Lord from your own family than you do from, you know, you know, and and that's why church is kind of referred to as as a church family. Amen. You know, it's a church family.
You you know why it's a church family? Because how can two walk together except they be agreed? Amen? You see, we agree on these things, and and that's what, you know, that's what consolidates a family. So Jesus wasn't the peacenik that he's often accused of being. Not at all. Not at all. Alright. Luke chapter 22. Alright. Let's go to Luke chapter 22. Matthew, Mark, Luke. Third book, once again. Luke chapter 22 and, verse number 35. Luke 22 and verse 35. Now Jesus here is he's having a little conversation. And, at the conclusion of, at the at the conclusion of the Lord's supper, with his disciples, and he says, verse, 35.
And he said unto them, when I sent you without person script and shoes lacked ye anything? And they said nothing. Then he said unto them, but now he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his script. And he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. What? Did did you just read that? How would you interpret something like that? For I say unto you that that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me. And he was reckoned among the transgressors, for the things concerning me have an end. And they said and they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords.
And he said unto them, it is enough. It is enough. So in other words, if you're General Patton, and you've got two revolvers, you know, right here and right here, you're in pretty good shape. You're in pretty good shape. Alright? He said, it's enough. It's enough. Now in other words, what Jesus here is saying to the disciples in in that statement is, you know, don't go overboard. Don't lose your mind, but being aware is important. Awareness is excellent. Amen? After all, Proverbs 11, says, a false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight. Alright? So he said, now, you know what's going on here?
In this context, Jesus is looking down the gun barrel at the church age. That's what he's doing. He's anticipating his crucifixion and his resurrection, and he knows precisely what's gonna take place in the immediate and far future. And so, what he's doing here, he's considering all of that, and his recommendation is, go get yourself a weapon. I mean, folks, it's obvious. It's undeniable. Those are the words of the Lord Jesus Christ. And if you're one of these people that go around saying, I believe and I trust every I listen to I obey everything that that I read that Jesus Christ said. Well, how come you're not doing that? Those are his words.
Alright? John chapter 18. John chapter 18 and verse 10. Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it. Alright. Now this is this is when they came to capture, Jesus Christ and and haul him before Caiaphas' judgment hall, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. Alright. Now, I don't know if if Simon just had bad aim, or or, you know, or if it was his intention. You know, I I really I don't have have any idea about that thing. But the point of it is is that he cuts this guy's ear off. Now in another hospital, we're told that Jesus plastered the ear back on and healed him. Alright?
Verse 11. Then said Jesus unto Peter, put up thy sword into the sheath. And the then said Jesus unto Peter, put up thy sword into the sheath, the cup, which my father hath given me. Shall I not drink it? Alright. So so clearly, the Lord's telling Peter to put his weapon away, to put the sword away, because Jesus has to complete the mission of Calvary. I mean, that's obvious. I I don't know how you could miss that. But what's interesting is that Simon Peter is carrying a sword, and he's not rebuked for carrying a sword. The Lord tells him just to put it up, put it away.
He doesn't tell him to dispose of it. He doesn't tell him to sell it or or take it to the pawnshop. Jesus instructions were not to get rid of your sword, but rather just put it up, put it away. Timing is everything. Isn't that right? Timing is everything. Alright. Now, there are some spiritual observations that, need to be, I mean, really quickly made. Alright. On more than one occasion, you know, we saw that the, the the priest class using weapons or distributing them. Right? So there's a clear connection between the weapons to the spiritual, which is the reminder of who gives the right to bear arms.
It's God. You see, it's God. Because the priest class was anointed and appointed by God himself, according to his instructions. So that's worthy of that's worthy of observation, and and and it's it's worthy of consideration. God is utilizing the priest frequently in the weapons business. Frequently. You know what those guys were? They were gun runners. They were gun runners. Alright? Alright. Here's another one. Second Corinthians in chapter 10. You're in Luke. So you're gonna go to your right. You're gonna pass through Luke, John, Acts, Romans, first Corinthians, second Corinthians.
Keep going to your right. Second Corinthians chapter 10. I overshot my mark. Here we go. Second Corinthians chapter 10 and, and of course, you know, that really reminds us, you know, what we've already studied in previous lessons. How that many many many pastors of a variety of groups and denominations, variety of sects, not sex, sects, in the revolutionary war were very involved in that effort. Very involved. You know, they didn't consider their involvement a transgression of scripture. So were they right? Well, again, I submit it to you. If they were wrong, then we should repudiate the liberty and the freedom that we've enjoyed because of their effort.
I don't even know the greatest liberal who wants to do that. I can't even think of one. Alright. Now now second Corinthians chapter 10, and, verse number three. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalted itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Now, some would argue and say, well, now you see right there.
In this age that you and I live, our weapons ought to be strictly spiritual weapons. Really? Let let let me let me respond to that by saying this. For a spiritual fight, you use spiritual weapons. For a physical fight, you use physical weapons. Now let me show you how how how that thinking is a little off base. Alright? Are we not to eat spiritual food? Does he not compare the word to the bread of life? You know, manna from heaven? Are we not to eat spiritual honey and meat? Did not Paul say, you know, to more than one group, you need to get off the milk of the word and get onto the meat of the word? Well, that's spiritual food, isn't it? That that's spiritual.
Alright? Are we not to drink spiritual drink? Didn't Jesus say to to the to the woman at the well that he had a source of water for her that exceeded any h two o that was in the well? Spiritual drink. But because you and I are are are commanded to eat spiritual food and drink spiritual drink, then does that mean that we should not eat and drink anything physical? Well, that wouldn't last too long, would it? So, yes, we we partake of the spiritual for the spiritual, and we partake of the physical for the physical. Folks, that's just common sense.
You know, the Bible is is a common sense book. So now, no matter which way you turn, no matter which way you look at the thing, no matter which way you evaluate it, ladies and gentlemen, the second amendment that our forefathers penned came by evaluating and analyzing the word of God more than any other document. It's the way it is. Now folks, in conclusion, our forefathers derive the idea of the second amendment. Not only because of the of the personal experience that they've encountered in a in a long struggle, And not only because of their evaluation study, and pursuit of the word of God, but by past experiences.
Because, you know, most of them came directly from an ancestry of European immigrants. And what they suffered in Europe, in in in in in a variety of countries, was very little liberty, very little freedom, and particularly the liberty to have a weapon. Now see, if the American public was rendered weaponless, do you know how long it would take before you'd lose your freedom and liberty? You know, it it would happen in a flash, just like that. Just like that. So that's the one thing that preserves. It's not the only thing, but it's the one thing that preserves the freedoms that we enjoy.
Do you know do you know what what a horrible difficulty an invading army would face? Because you know, you think about it. In in some in some of the major hunting states like like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, here in Texas, you know, and and and so on, There are millions of licensed hunters in America, which is bigger than any army in the world. Think about that. But that just kind of gives you a a a brief overview of, of the bible teaching on this subject. And and, you know, when someone says to you, you know, you need to give up your guns. You know, they might as well be saying to you to give up your Bible. They might as well be saying that. And you know something folks, I'll be honest with you, I am not prepared to give up either one.
I am not gonna give up this Bible, and I am not gonna give up my guns. That's just the way it's gonna be. Alright folks, this is the Joe Russo, and, we're gonna take a quick break here. I hope you found it informative, and I hope you found it a blessing, to realize that our rights, our fundamental rights, come from God himself. No government can dispense rights.
Because if a government can dispense rights, the government can take away those rights. And once the government takes away your rights, you're dead in the water folks. You're dead in the water.
