In this Bible Study Sunday, I broadcast from Eagle Pass and continue our series on Dispensations, moving from the patriarchs into the Dispensation of the Law. I set the stage with Israel’s 400 years in Egyptian bondage and introduce the Passover as both a historic event and a powerful type pointing to Christ, our Passover.
We walk through the ten plagues as judgments on Egypt’s gods, then focus on Pharaoh’s four compromises—worship in the land, don’t go far, leave the family, and leave your possessions—and how these mirror the enemy’s tactics to keep believers tied to the world. We then dive into Exodus 12 to examine the Passover lamb: its purity, the application of the blood by hyssop (a picture of accessible faith), the necessity of applying—not merely analyzing—the blood, and feeding on the roasted lamb as a picture of fellowship with Christ.
I close with a pastoral appeal to reject compromise, trust fully in the blood of the Lamb, and live with the joy and assurance that flows from obedience and faith.
Coming up in the series: the giving of the Law at Sinai, tabernacle worship, the judges, the kings and divided kingdom, the captivities, the prophets through John the Baptist, and tracing the crowns of the Kingdom of Heaven and the Kingdom of God—so you can gain a clearer grasp of the whole Bible storyline.

And folks, welcome to Bible Study Sunday on the Joe Ruse Show.
Folks, I hope you guys had a great weekend. I've missed you guys over the last few days. We took, we took some time off. Thursday was my birthday, so we took the birthday off. And then, well, we don't normally do a show on Thursday anyway, but, we took Friday off. We were supposed to have, Bill Ottman from Mines, the, CEO and cofounder of Mines on the show Friday night, but, some scheduling issues came up. He had to reschedule it, so we'll be doing that, sometime in the near future. And, so I decided to take Friday off, celebrate the birthday, and just kinda relax a little bit. Didn't do our our Saturday show, had to work Saturday. And, the reason why we're starting late today is because I had to work today also. So, got home a little while ago, got here into the into the studio, and, got everything set up for tonight's, bible study. So I could actually say tonight, because it is kinda evening now.
So I hope you guys had a great weekend though. I hope you guys got a lot of stuff done, and, got to spend some time with your family and your loved ones, and and really enjoy the time with, you know, with the folks that are important to you and special to you. Now, you know, coming up this week, we have, we have Thanksgiving, so it's gonna be a kind of an abbreviated week for us as well. So hope you guys are looking forward to that also. And, you know, it's, you know, what we've been doing, if you recall so I hope you guys actually remember what we were doing from from last Sunday. But, if you, if you recall, what we, we're doing is we've been going through the dispensations. We've been talking about dispensational truth, sometimes you might hear it said, but we've been talking about the dispensations. And last week, we talked about the dispensation of the patriarchs.
And, we left off last week with, with talking about Abraham, and his imputed righteousness, and his justification. And we really didn't spend a lot of time on it, on the rest of the patriarchs at least. And, you know, honestly, we really can't. It's, you know, what we're trying to do is we're trying to go through your bible from Genesis to Revelation, but in the dispensational format. And, you know, so we we really we really can't cover everything in detail, but, we're gonna cover as much as we possibly can. Now, of course, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and Joseph, and then Israel, found itself in Egypt, led off into bondage and slavery, and for four hundred years, it was there. And, just as God had prophesied to Abraham, and and we talked a little bit about that, and told him that they would be in bondage.
Well, at the conclusion of that four hundred years, we find this event that we're gonna talk about tonight. Now it doesn't really have much to do with dispensational truth, but it was the beginning of a dispensation. Alright? Now the patriarchs, four hundred years of bondage, and God chooses to bring a deliverer and call out of people. And what you find as you read your bible, if if you can't get anything else, you should be reminded of this one thing. What God determines to start, he always finishes. God will always finish the task that he sets his hands to do. God determined to call himself out a people for himself that he would rule, and he is in the process right now of doing that very thing. That's t n e dot energy. Alright. Now, tonight, we're gonna be getting into the dispensation of the law. Alright? There are so many significant events that took place, during that particular age, and we're probably gonna spend, oh, maybe five, maybe six messages, six studies, six weeks on that particular passage, on that particular age, and we're gonna focus our attention on what took place during that period of time. Now tonight, we're gonna talk about the Passover. Alright? Next week, we'll have the actual law and the law giver, Moses, coming from Sinai with the law.
And we'll see some of the events took place there. And then we're gonna get into tabernacle worship. And and, of course, that has a, a great part and a and a great deal to do with dispensational truth. And, you know, folks, there is a lot a lot to be learned there. Now we're not gonna get into a whole study on the tabernacle as far as a lengthy one, but, but but we're gonna spend one night on tabernacle worship, and and then we're gonna move on into the chronological events of the old testament. And and and and I I believe that this is really gonna give you a a good grasp, or or a better grasp at least of your bible. Alright? We're gonna talk about the judges. We're gonna break down break it down into different time periods, and and then we'll look at the judges, and then we're gonna show you the kings, and the division of the kingdoms. We're gonna show you the captivity of the kingdoms, and then we're gonna look at the prophets, and and and leading right on up to John the Baptist, the last of the Old Testament prophets.
And then we're gonna follow the crowns, the kingdom of heaven, and the kingdom of God. And we're gonna follow how those crowns are traced through all of these. Alright? Now my motive, of course, is is is that when we conclude this series, you'll know a great deal more about your Bible than you do now. Alright? That's what we want. That's what we want. Alright? Now, you know, folks, if you if you if you don't look to the word of God if you don't look to the word of God for your strength, for encouragement, and help, you know what's gonna end up happening? You're gonna end up faltering, and you're gonna end up failing.
You know, anyone that looks at the Christian life as as a piece of cake is is either ignorant or not telling you the truth. Honestly, the the the Christian life gets weary. The Bible says that much study is weariness to the flesh. Paul actually alluded to, to to be not weary in well doing. The Christian life gets weary sometimes. Sometimes you just get tired, you get worn out. Sometimes you just wanna sit down under a tree, sip some iced tea, forget about your service to the Lord. You know, and that's I I think that's right. And I'm sure that if if you're listening, you're watching, and you've spent any time in in service to to the king, you are gonna find that you get weary.
You get weary. But you know something folks, don't get discouraged. Don't get discouraged. Don't be don't be in despair. You you think you're tired sometimes? Just look at the folks in the world that are serving the God of this world. You think you get tired? They run themselves ragged, and what do they have to show for it? What do they have to show for it? Well, you know, you say, you know, perhaps it's accumulation of wealth. Yeah, but all of the earthly wealth there is, what good is that in eternity? What good would that be in eternity? Now in in our introduction, you know, I'm I'm not gonna and I'm not gonna refer to it much except to say that, you know, we did a lengthy introduction just to give you a rundown of the major events of the dispensation, to give you an idea of the things that took place. After four hundred years of bondage after four hundred years of bondage, we find Israel in Egypt.
And, of course, having spent that time in servitude, and and what we're gonna concern ourselves, with tonight are are the events that led up to this great event, the Passover, and the Passover itself. Alright. Now there are some types that need to be understood if we're gonna have a full, sense and appreciation of this. Alright. Now the study of types, you know, if you wonder what types are, but the the the study of types in in the word of God is is just in a it's just it's a great study. It's an amazing study. You know, some people take it a little too far occasionally, but nonetheless, there are many types.
And what is the type that, you know, God sets down and type what will take place sometime in the future. That's why Paul said Paul gets over and and and and writes to the Corinthians. He says, Christ is our Passover. Alright? So the Passover was a type or a picture of something to come. Alright? Water baptism is a type of another kind of baptism, and we observe when we observe the Lord's supper or communion, that's a type of something else. So so the Bible is is full of types or pictures. Now even though the Passover was a very real event to the people of those days, it it was a type of a greater Passover that's yet to come. And this story is full of types.
The type of Egypt. Alright? And the bible in in your bible, Egypt is always a type of the world. Alright? It's a type of the pleasures of the world. You know, the the children of Israel will not were not made for Egypt, and Egypt wasn't made for them. They were made for Canaan. And so consequently, we end up seeing that that, you know, they lived in the world, and God has chosen to call them out of the world. Alright? When they crossed the Red Sea and left Egypt, it's a picture in a sense, Alright? When they cross the Red Sea and left Egypt, it's a picture in a sense of the rapture. They went through a sea.
Now if you're saved, and you and when you get raptured, God is gonna take you through a sea. You see, God's gonna take you out of the world, and take you through a and take you through a sea, and take you home. Praise God. Amen? Praise God for that. Egypt it had everything of worldly magnificence and worldly appeal. It had the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye. It had the pride of life. It had all of those things to appeal to the flesh of people. Egypt was built on fleshly appeal. It was built on the magnification of man.
It was built on the glorification and the deification of man. Alright? Pharaoh was a type of Satan, a type of the devil. Egypt was full of idolatry, the very stronghold of Satan, the hotbed of every species of sin. Having Israel in his power, Pharaoh tried to make it a permanent situation, and that's what Satan tries to do with the sinner. Moses. Moses is is a type of Christ. He was a God prepared deliverer, and he was sent to deliver God's people from bondage. You see? Alright. Now, Jesus Christ was sent to come and deliver us from the bondage of the slave pits of sin.
Alright? And then you have the plagues, and there were 10 plagues in all. And those plagues were judgments against the gods of Egypt. You know, it's interesting, and you you could run down what each plague was, and and how and and and how that it was, you know, or I guess in effect, a judgment against the Egyptian gods. Alright? The water into blood. Well, that was against the Nile, the idol river. Alright? Frogs against the worship of frogs. Alright? Lice against the earth god, Seb, and the priest who, who who could not officiate when vermin were upon them. Alright? Then you had the flies. Flies was against the, the atmosphere.
Shu, the son of Ra, the sun god. Murrain was against the sacred bull, Apis. Then you had boils, which which which was against Sutek or or Typhon, and and and that's who victims were offered to, and then their ashes were taken, and they they were just kinda flung out into the winds. Alright? Then you had the locusts, which was against the sacred beetle. Then you had hail against Shu, and then you had darkness against the sun god Ra, and that's who Pharaoh was believed to be a child of. Alright? And then you had, lastly, you had the death of the firstborn, which was against the against the nation guilty of wholesale infanticide in order in that all Hebrew male children should be cast into the River Nile. Do you remember that? That's Exodus chapter one verse 22.
So the gods of this world will be judged. Amen? Alright. Now, I wanna spend the bulk of the message tonight, not so much on the doctrinal significance of studying the dispensations, but more on on on on some of the practical and inspirational applications that we could pull from this particular passage of scripture. And and and and and and that is the compromises. The compromises. Alright. Moses and Aaron appeared before Pharaoh and said, thus saith the Lord God of Israel, let my people go that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. And of course, Pharaoh responded accordingly.
And if you would take your bible, I'm gonna get into your bible now. Take your bible, let's go over to the book of Exodus. Second book of your bible, Exodus, we're gonna go over to Exodus chapter five. Exodus and chapter five. Alright. And we're gonna start in verse number one. Exodus chapter five verse one. And if that's a little small for you to see, I'm sorry. I wanted to get it to fit all into one page, so I had to condense it a little bit. But Exodus chapter five and verse one. And afterward, Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, thus saith the Lord God of Israel, let my people go that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
And Pharaoh said, who is the Lord that I shall obey his voice and to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go. And they said, the God of the Hebrews hath met with us. Let us go, we pray thee, three days journey into the desert and sacrifice unto the Lord our God, lest he fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword. And the king of Egypt said unto them, wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works get you unto your burdens? And Pharaoh said, behold, the people of the land are met now are many, and you make them rest from their burdens. And Pharaoh commanded at the same day, the taskmasters of the people and their officers saying, you shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore let them go and gather straw for themselves.
And the tail of the bricks which they did make heretofore, you shall lay upon them. You shall not diminish aught thereof, for they be idle. Therefore, they cry saying, let us go and sacrifice to our God. Alright. So the response of Pharaoh was in fact, I'm not gonna let you go. In fact, I'm gonna I'm gonna increase your work and make it harder for you to to live your lives, and make it harder for you to live in your bondage. Well, the result was that the result of that was one plague came. And the first plague was turning the water into blood, and that was followed by the plague of frogs. You know, frogs everywhere, and that was followed by the plague of lice.
The very dust of the land was turned into lice. The fourth plague was the swarm of flies. And and interestingly interestingly, this particular plague only affected the Egyptians. Only affected the Egyptians. The land of Goshen where Israel lived was left was left alone. But the homes of the Egyptians were literally infiltrated with swarms of flies. And then after four plagues, Pharaoh decided to compromise a little bit, which brings us up to our first observation, which is this. The devil gives ground begrudgingly. The devil gives ground begrudgingly.
You know, it really had to think about it, it really had to be a pretty convincing situation. Four different plagues before Pharaoh would finally say, alright. Alright. Let's talk about this thing a little bit here. Let's see if we can't, you know, compromise here a little bit. He said, you know, come on. Let's let's talk about this thing a little for a little while, and let's get this thing straightened out. You know, the devil gives ground begrudgingly. He gives ground begrudgingly in your life. And I mean, you know, after four hideous plagues, you know, finally, he gave a little bit. Alright? Let's look at the compromise.
Take your bibles and go over to Exodus chapter eight. Exodus chapter eight, just a couple of pages over. Exodus chapter eight, and we're gonna go to, verse 25. Exodus chapter eight and verse 25. And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron and said, go go ye, sacrifice to your god in the land. And Moses said, it is not meet so to do, for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the Lord our God. Low, we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes. Will they not stone us? So so basically this, Pharaoh said, alright listen, if you wanna sacrifice, if you if you wanna go worship your God, if if you wanna get a little religious, you know, it's alright.
It's okay if you do it here in the land. I don't want you to leave the land. I don't want you to leave the world. But as long as you do it here, it's okay. It's all good. You know, that's exactly exactly the response of Satan. And, you know, whether you're a new Christian, or or whether you've been saved for a long time, regardless, this is the same approach all the time. It's always the same. His first compromise is, okay. If you wanna get a little religion, you wanna go to church occasionally, you know, show up at Easter, show up at Christmas, if you wear the special occasions, whatever it might be, you know. But you stay here in the world. You know, leave your, you know, leave your affections here in the world.
Leave your heart in the world. Leave all of those things here in the world. Alright? So that's the first compromise. That's the first compromise. Alright? Now now now Moses responded with, no. No. No. No. We can't do that and here's why. If we go out and we sacrifice one of your gods, you know, one of your gods is the sacred bull, and if you and if the Egyptians see us out there sacrificing bullocks to our god, well, they're gonna get offended. They're gonna stone us. Alright? The lesson's obvious. Anytime you choose to worship God according to his instructions, the world's gonna be offended.
Amen? The world is gonna be offended. You know, the world would just would would just love for what we do on a Sunday to cease, to stop. The world would love that. Do you think that if you took a poll if you took a poll at your job, and and and and and and and you and you put it this way, say say the poll said, you know, we're gonna take a poll to see how many people are interested in being witnessed to. And if you'd like to be witnessed to on a regular basis, please check box number one. Do you think for a second you would get like an overwhelming positive response?
No. No. Not at all. Because that's not what the world wants. And if you purpose and determine that you're gonna serve God the way God is instructed, it would cause an offense in the world. It would cause an offense to the world. You know, honestly, the world doesn't care if you're religious. They really don't. They they really don't mind. In fact, honestly most of the world is religious, but as long as you'll be in the world. You know why most people today, you know, are of whatever religious denomination that they are? I'm gonna tell you why the minority of people are bible believing Christians, and why the majority are non bible believing Christians.
Because you can be a member of most churches in this country and have absolutely no pangs of guilt about leaving the world. You can participate in in all of the things of the world, and all the things that the world participates in. Man, you can go out and drink with them. You can gamble with them. You can swear with them. You can swap dirty jokes with them. You can do all that the world does, and you can, you know, march right on down into church on Sunday, and you could be just as religious as you wanna be, and nobody has a problem with that kind of thing. And tragically, America has has has bought the first compromise of the devil.
Okay. If you wanna be a little religious, it's alright, but stay in the world. Stay in the world. Alright? The second compromise the second compromise came right on the heels of the first one, when Moses wouldn't buy it. And did did you did you ever notice that that God doesn't seem to bless compromise? Did you ever notice that? God just can't buy compromise. God can't bless compromise. Alright. Go to Exodus chapter eight and verse 28. Exodus chapter eight and verse 28. And Pharaoh said, I will let you go that you may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness, only you shall not go very far away.
Entreat for me. Well, that's the second one the devil's gonna come up with. If he can't get you to buy the first compromise, and listen, he he he get he gets the vast majority of folks to bite on the first one. The first one, you know, the first presented bait is usually the one that's taken. Now if you know anything about fishing, you know that that if any that that you know that that is if anything's gonna be taken, is gonna be the first. The second one was, you can go, but you just can't go far away. See, Pharaoh knew that if he kept Israel within eyesight, so to speak, if they were they were right there on the perimeter of the world, it would be a very easy thing for him to retrieve them and get them back under his absolute and total control.
The devil says, yeah. You you can become a professing Christian. Yeah. You you can go join the church. Yeah. You you can keep your reputation up. Just don't go very far away. Don't go too far. You know, a lot of people try to walk that fence. A lot of people try to serve the two masters, and God said you can't do it. God said, you can't do it. You gotta choose one. You've gotta make up your mind which one you're gonna serve. The devil says, it's alright. It's good. Just don't go far away. You know, kinda hang on just a little bit. You know, hang on to the things of this world a little bit.
Well then Moses says, no. I'm sorry. I can't do that. I can't do that. That won't do either. Well then the third compromise came. When you hear people say, you know, and and and here's the characteristic of people who've been victimized by that second compromise, is the folks that are constantly saying, is it right or wrong to do such and such? And you know, there's nothing really wrong with asking that question, you know, from time to time. There's nothing wrong with that. Because occasionally, you know, it can be a legitimate question. But you know what I'm talking about?
It it's it's the crowd that is constantly questioning everything. Well, I don't know if that's so wrong. I don't see what's wrong with that. I don't know what's wrong with the occasional social drink. I don't know what's wrong with this. I don't know what's wrong with that. And it just goes on, and on, and on. That's the crowd that's bought the second compromise. We'll just be a little religious, but we just won't get very far from the world. We wanna remain acceptable in the eyes of the world. Well, you know, we don't really wanna be offensive to the world.
Now the third compromise, Exodus chapter 10. Exodus chapter 10 and verse seven. Alright? So just gonna keep going forward just a little bit. Exodus. Try try to keep them in order for us. Alright. Now now between the second and the third compromise, there were three more plagues that came. Alright? You had the plague upon the cattle, you had the plague of boils, and then you had the plague of the hail. Remember, the devil gives ground grudgingly. He gives ground grudgingly. You know, I know folks that are saved, and yet old pharaoh, the devil, is over there constantly influencing and almost controlling and dominating their lives.
I know folks that have been saved for years, and some of them have been through three, four, five, six plagues. You know, financial disaster, ill health, heartache caused by their children, marriages collapsing, family difficulties, job problems, plague after plague after plague after plague, and still they give ground so grudgingly. They just don't wanna give up hanging on to the world. You listen to Satan and that's what's gonna happen. And that's the attitude that he desires to cultivate in your life. Well, three more plagues came, and once again, Pharaoh decided to do some more compromising.
The devil will compromise, but man, does he hate giving up ground? Exodus chapter 10 verse seven. And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, how long shall this man be a snare unto us? Let the men go, that they may serve the lord their god. Knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed? And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh, and he said unto them, go, serve your lord, serve the lord your god, but who are they that are gonna go? That's what he's saying. Who who are they that shall go? And Moses said, we will go with our young, and with our old, and with our sons, and with our daughters, with our flocks, and with our herds. We go will we go? For we must hold a feast unto the Lord.
And he said unto them, let the Lord be so with you, and I will let you go. And your little ones look to it, for evil is before you. Not so. Go now ye that are men, and serve the Lord, for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence. Alright. So the third compromise the third compromise was, Pharaoh said, alright. I'll just let the men go. I'll let the men go, but you have to leave your families at home. I want you to leave your families here in the world. So this compromise means, you know, let the older ones become Christians if they want to, but let's not force religion on the young.
I mean, after all, everybody ought to have the right to make their own choice. And so, you know, you crazy Bible believing Baptists, you know, you're inhibiting, you're you're you're warping the personalities of your children. You're always dragging them off to church. You're not being broad minded. You need to leave them home, so that the world and the pharaoh and the devil can warp their personality. You see? That's the next compromise. You know, there's absolutely no pressure. There's no pressure like family pressure. Isn't that right?
You know how, you know, it's it's easy for some folks to say, you know, you know, get lost man. You know, like, leave me alone. Right? It's it's real easy for some people to say, you know, just just beat it. Get lost man. It's easy for some people, sarcastically, or firmly, or or whatever, but but it's hard. It's hard to talk to family that way. It's hard to talk to your family. There is no pressure. No pressure like family pressure. You know, when you get saved and and your mom and dad say, you know, what's the matter with you? Are you crazy? What's your problem?
You get saved, and the aunts, and the uncles, and the brothers, and the sisters, the cousins, you know, the whole deal comes crashing down on you. What's the matter with you? You're reading that Bible all the time. Isn't that amazing? I mean, they're actually putting it in print. You know, more and more people are expressing concern over people reading their Bible too much. Can you imagine that? You're considered a social deviant. You're considered weird if you read your Bible. It's more acceptable in 2025 to do drugs than it is to read a Bible.
Man, we got some really weird people running around. You know, I I am honestly you know folks, I am so glad that one day soon, God's gonna take us through the sea, and get us out of this mess. You know, praise God, man. Praise God. That's the compromise. And the devil will hit you with that with full force. I mean, he'll smack you right in the face of that thing after you get saved. You know, if if you've been saved if you've been saved for just a little while, and grandma and grandpa, and and and and the godfather, and the godmother, and all the rest of them, That'll be on your case, you know.
You know, what are you doing dragging the kids off to church all the time? They're gonna grow up to be abnormal. I hope so. You know, I hope so. Because what and and I say that sarcastically and seriously, because when I look around at the world and I see what's classified as normal, I don't want to have anything to do with that. I want nothing to do with it. There's another compromise. There's the fourth one. Let's go to Exodus chapter 10 and, verse 24. Alright. We'll get a few more plagues. Getting kicked in the head a few more times. The devil gives ground grudgingly. Remember that? Just as slow as as he can possibly be.
A few more plagues. Finally, he says, alright. I'll tell you I'll tell you what. I'm willing to make another compromise here. Alright? Verse 24. And Pharaoh called unto Moses and said, go ye, serve the Lord. Only let your flocks and your herds be stayed. Let your little ones also go with you. And Moses said, thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings that we may sacrifice unto the Lord our God. I like that. I like that. Moses said, no. I'm not gonna buy it. I'm not buying that. Alright, now Pharaoh comes along and says, look I'll let you go, I'll let your whole clan go, you know, get out of here, go.
Only just, you know, leave your possessions behind. And I like Moses's answer. He says, no. We're not gonna buy it. In fact, you're gonna have to give us the sacrifices. I like that. I do. I like that a lot. You know, I I like saying to the world, hey, you support me while I tell others about Jesus. And that's good. I like that. That's good. And then he goes on verse 25, and Moses said, thou must also thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings that we may sacrifice unto the Lord our God. Our cattle also shall go with this. There shall not be an hoof left behind. For thereof, we must take to serve the lord our god, and we know not with what we must serve the lord until we come thither.
But the lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go. And Pharaoh said unto him, get thee from me. Take heed to thyself. See my face no more. For in that day, thou seest my face, thou shalt die. And then Moses said, verse 29, thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more. Moses was just a little sarcastic. Yeah. He was a little sarcastic. Here's the compromise. The compromise is this, okay. Alright. If you gotta get all excited about this business of being a Christian and serving God okay.
Alright. If you've gotta go off here, and you've gotta worship, alright. That's fine. Give your soul to God, but keep your possessions for yourself. You know better yet, leave them in the world. Leave them in the world. You know, I guess I guess one of the greatest tragedies of our time is that there are just enormous amounts of God's people. You know, born again, saved, children of God who are saved, They attend church faithfully. They're and and and they're ready at the at the drop of a hat to go off into the wilderness and worship God. But but too many of their possessions are in the world, and their investments are in the world instead of heaven.
You know, lots of folks get saved and never give anything to missions. Think never give anything to missions. You know, people that fall to this compromise are missing out on an inter on on an eternal investment in the back of heaven. I love giving to missions. I always have. Since the day I got saved, God just put it on my heart that missions was important, missions was key. Give to missions. Now we can look around at at Christianity and and and see every one of those compromises somewhere in our midst, somewhere in our own lives. And remember, when I'm if I'm if I'm pointing my finger at you, I got three pointing back at me too. You know, I'm I'm no better than anyone else.
We can see how the devil, we can see how he comes to us and he tries to convince us and persuade us with those compromises. They won't work. They won't you see, if if Israel if Moses bought any one of those compromises, if they had taken the bait on any one of them, they never would have gotten to the land of Canaan. They they they never would have claimed that which God had for them. They never would have found the land that flowed with milk and honey. They never would have found the joy, the peace, and the gladness that God had prepared for them.
They just never would have found it, and neither will you if you continue to buy the compromises of the devil. You you you will just never find it. It's gonna end up being that that, that elusive, phantom that'll that'll just always evade you and be three steps ahead of you, and you'll never catch it if you continue to buy the prom the compromises of the devil. Alright. Now let's look at the Passover, the last of the 10 plagues. Nine have already taken place, and now the Passover comes. And we read about it in Exodus in chapter 12. Exodus chapter 12. And of and of course, this is an exciting thing.
The Passover is one of those, great highlight mountain peak events in all of the word of God. And and and we're told in first Corinthians five seven that Christ is our Passover sacrifice for us. Alright. Now there are there are there are three three or four observations that we need to make about this event, this this incredible great event. Alright. First of all, the Passover the Passover was to be, to Israel the beginning of months. Alright. Look at me over in, Exodus chapter 12 and verse two. Exodus chapter 12 and verse two. This month shall be unto you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year to you.
I like that. You know, a man doesn't begin to live until he's saved by the blood. Amen? Your first birthday means nothing unless you've got the second one. That's when you begin to live. When you're washed in the blood and cleansed in the blood of the lamb. Amen? I I mean, that's it, man. That's it. Well, no man had a hand in this thing except to do what God had commanded. It was all of grace. It was grace. Now there's some things to observe about the sacrifice, and, of course, we know that the sacrifice was to be a lamb. You see that over in Exodus chapter 12 verse five. A lamb is an emblem of, of purity, of meekness, and such was the Lord Jesus Christ.
He was a lamb. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, Isaiah 53. The lamb was to be young, a male of the first year. It was to be without blemish. If there was a spot found on him, he he would be unfit for the sacrifice. Jesus was without blemish. He was absolutely sinless according to the word of God. But you know, here's something that we'd really need to kinda dwell on momentarily, and that's this. It wasn't enough for simply the lamb to be killed. God said, you kill the lamb, and what I want you to do is I want you to take hyssop. Alright? And by the way, hyssop was was a very common plant in Egypt. It really it was you could find it anywhere.
It wasn't it wasn't one of those rare exotic plants that had to be imported from some foreign country. So what is that? A picture of that's a picture of faith. It's a picture of faith. It's available to the common man. It's readily available. You can get your hands on it. It's something that's used daily. You know, you exercise faith in one form or another every day, don't you? Every day of your life. And so it's not uncommon for God to ask you to express faith in his word and in his son, the lord Jesus Christ. And so the blood of the lamb has been shed, and the blood is collected in a little basin, and the hyssop is is dipped in the blood, and it's put on the lintel and on the doorposts.
And, you know, there there was an element in that society, both in Israel and Egypt, and you know this is true, that mocked them, that ridiculed them, that laughed at it. I am sure there are some there were some folks that said, well isn't that the most ridiculous thing? Isn't that the craziest thing? You know, those those those funny Bible believers look at them, these poor people. They just haven't been enlightened down at the university, you know? Poor folks. You know what they need? They need to have a few sessions with a good therapist. That'll help them out.
Then they'll get enlightened a little bit. Oh, I am absolutely certain. I I am I am absolutely certain that they had all of those elements of society that we have. I am sure that they did. Let me tell you something folks. At midnight, it didn't change a thing. All of the ridicule, all the mockery, all of the doubt, didn't change a thing. And I'm sure on the other hand, you know, there were some guys, you know, well, God said it, you know. You know, Moses told us to do it, so, you know, we better do it. You know, I I'm I'm sure there were some folks out there that that apply the blood just like God said, and they went inside, and they, you know, they they they gathered around that evening, and as they rehearsed some of the stories, some of the things that God had done for their people throughout the ages, and and and, you know, they concentrated their thoughts and minds on on on on those spiritual things. I am sure there were some whose hearts doubted, and their hearts welled up with fear, and they wondered.
You know, folks, people don't change. Peep people don't change. Fifteen hundred years before or after, it doesn't matter. Human nature is the same. People don't change. Can you picture it though? You know, here's a living room. There's a guy walking back and forth. He's pacing back and forth. The children have just been put to bed, and he's nervous. He's pacing like a caged lion. And finally his wife says, would you please just sit down? You're driving me crazy. And he goes, I can't, I can't, I can't just sit down. And she says, what are you worried about? You applied the blood just like Moses said.
What are you so worried about? What are you concerned about? Yeah, I I know I did, I I did, but but what if it wasn't enough? What if we didn't have all the facts? What, you know, what if we really do need to get baptized? You know, what if we're members of the wrong church? What if we don't have enough good works? What if we haven't given enough? But when midnight came, that grim grip of death passed over this guy's house. Just like the other guy. One difference. One difference. He just didn't have the joy of his salvation, because he just couldn't completely believe God.
And you know something? I believe that there are a lot of people out there who are saved. They've trusted the blood. They've put their full faith, trust, and confidence in it, but they've allowed Satan to pervade their thoughts, and they doubt, and they question, and they wonder. And what if? And what if that? And what if this? You say, well, they're saved. They'll they'll stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Yeah. They sure will. They sure will. But just think, what a horrible way to spend thirty, forty, fifty years of your life without any joy of your salvation, without any sense of security.
It's a horrible way to live. Amen? It's a horrible way to live. You know, it wasn't enough to analyze the blood. You know, you you could have gotten a sample of the blood, rushed it down to the lab, and and and and and had it tested and analyzed and studied and and everything else, but that wasn't enough. You had to apply it. You had to apply it. Alright. Well, there was the sacrifice, and then there was the feast. And the word of God says, Exodus chapter 12 verse eight, and they shall eat the flesh in that night roast with fire and unleavened bread, and with bitter herbs, they shall eat it.
They were saved by the blood, but it wasn't enough to kill the lamb and use the blood. They had to feed on the lamb. You know, some Christians stop short of being saved by the blood, but they never feed on the lamb. Jesus said he is the bread of life. Jesus said that he was the water that was able to quench an everlasting thirst. Oh, man. We need to feed on him through his word. We need to feed on him through his word. And then their instructions were to roast the lamb. They weren't to boil it, they weren't to bake it, they were to roast it.
And interestingly enough, in order to roast the lamb, they had to put it on a spit. And the spit would be run lengthwise through the lamb, and the and then another spit would be run crosswise through the shoulders to keep it in place and keep it from spinning on the spit. Do you see the picture? You have a spit going from top to bottom and a spit going across. We had the lamb upon a cross. It's no wonder the Bible says, behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. And Christ is our Passover sacrifice for us. Folks, have you received the lamb?
Have you allowed the blood to be applied to the door of your heart? It was no wonder that the book of Revelation speaks of the heart and compares it to a door. It's no wonder that, you know, it's no wonder God says that he desires to walk in the door of our hearts and sup with us and fellowship with us if we open the door. And the key to the entrance is the blood. Let me ask you, are are you are you one of those folks that stand on the side and and and say, you know, you bible believers, you bible literalists, you're crazy.
But you know the bible tells us later, after death passed over the land of Egypt, that there was great mourning and bereavement in the land. And after God said after God had performed what he said he would do, there were no more doubters. There were no more skeptics. But the tragedy of it, the tragedy of it was that by then, it was too late. You know, there will be no skeptics, and there will be no doubters at the great white throne of judgment. There won't be one. Not one. Not one, folks. I guarantee you that men like Richard Dawkins won't have one doubting, skeptical word to say at the great white throne of judgment, but it'll be too late.
It'll be too late because that condemning finger of death will have already wrought its work. Remember, the Bible says for the wages of sin of the wages of sin is death, but the blood of Jesus Christ, his son, cleanseth us from all sin. Our heavenly father, we wanna thank you for today. Thank you, lord, for the message. Thank you for this study. Lord, thank you for the Passover. Thank you for the the type and the picture that it represented in the days of Moses to what it has become for the for the bible believer today, For the saved, born again believer.
That Jesus Christ is our Passover. Thank you, father. Thank you for that gift. And I pray that if there's anyone listening under the sound of my voice today that doesn't have the lamb applied to the door of their heart, God, I pray that you would open up their eyes and ears to it today, and they would call upon the name of the Lord, and you would be saved. And we'll thank you for it. In Jesus name, amen. Alright. Well, folks, we're gonna end it here for, this portion of the study. We'll pick it up next Sunday on our next Bible study Sunday.
