Other shows we have for you to enjoy at myclassicradio.net. The Avengers was most certainly not a household name in South Africa prior to the radio series. With no national television service until 1976, the mechanism simply was not present in the country to show television programs to mass audiences. While many other countries reveled in the filmed adventures of John Steed and Company, South Africa was not equipped to join in the fun. The series took Britain by storm and made a major impression in the American markets, being that greatest of rarities, a British series given a network transmission slot. However, as a film series, rather than a videotaped one, the avengers was able to gain a modicum of exposure in South Africa through film rentals.

Petri wine brings you Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce and the new adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The Petrie family, the family that took time to bring you good wine, invite you to listen to doctor Watson, tell us another exciting story about his old friend, that master detective, Sherlock Holmes. As for me, instead of telling you something, I'd like to ask you something. Do you like chicken? How do you like it best? Roasted, fried, or in a stew with dumpling? Well, whatever your favorite may be, you like that chicken infinitely better when it's served with a glass Petri California Sauternes.
And now there's a combination, chicken and Petri Sauternes. Petri Sauternes is a white wine, pale golden in color, delicately fragrant, and clear as crystal. And what a flavor that Petrie Sauternes had. I'm telling you Petrie Sauternes is just about the last word in dinner wine. Oh, one more tip. Remember to serve Petrie Sauternes with fish or any kind of seafood. Good. It's great. To be sure you have a glass of good wine, be sure it's Petri wine. And now I'm sure our good friend doctor Watson's expecting us. Let's go and enjoy.

Good evening, doctor. Good evening, mister Bartow. Puncture to the minute as usual.
[00:02:58] Unknown:
Drop a chair and settle down, my boy. Well, I won't settle down too far, doctor. You have habit of keeping me on the edge of my chair during most of your story. Just it should be, mister Bartell. I hope tonight will prove no exception. So light up your pipe and I'll get on with my story. Doctor, from the hint you gave us last week, it sounded like quite a thriller. How did it begin? On a cold winter morning in 1897.
[00:03:20] Unknown:
Holmes and I, our breakfast just concluded that on either side of a cherry fire in our Baker Street lodgings. Thick fog rolled down between the line of dun colored houses and the opposite windows loomed like dark shapeless blurs with a heavy yellow wreath. Another London pea super high doctor. Exactly mister Bartell. Our gas was lit and shone its freaking light on the white cloth and glimmer of China for the breakfast table had not been cleared. Holmes was busy indexing his record of crime while I was engrossed in one of Clark's Russell's fine sea stories. Our morning was not destined, however, to be a quiet one. Shortly after 11:00, missus Hudson, I showed a young lady into our room. A young lady who seems to be in serious down. Really, I'm I'm doctor Watson, and and this is mister Sherlock Holmes. How do you do
[00:04:12] Unknown:
gentlemen? I must apologize for not giving my name to your heart keeper, but I have to be so careful. This is to be required. I don't care, my dear. Of course, you're wondering who I am and what's brought me here. My own theory would be that you are miss Harriet Irvin.
[00:04:25] Unknown:
And if you come to me to elicit my aid in proving that mister Binion did not murder your father. Holmes, what on earth are you talking about? You're absolutely correct, mister Holmes. But how did you know? I deduced it, miss Irvin. You're wearing very new and extremely expensive morning, presumably for the first time since a few basting threads are still in evidence. You wear no rings. However, indeed, you're not in mourning for a husband. The only man whose death the papers announced in the past few days and who left a young daughter, wealthy enough to purchase such garments is sir Edward Irvin. And And since the police have already made an arrest, obviously wish me to, disprove the police theory and intercede for young Binyon. Mister Holmes, you're wonderful. That's just what I wanted to do. You all want you? Miss Irvin, I've the newspaper reports very carefully. It would seem to me that Scott Vergheuard has arrested the right man. Well, I'm really sorry, but I didn't read the newspaper reports. I haven't the famous idea what you're both talking about. Then, let me bring you up to date, my dear friend. And please correct me, miss Irvin, if I make any mistakes. Three days ago, sir Edward Irvin, the father of this young lady, was found stabbed to death in his study. Yeah. Sorry to hear. The only entrance to the study is to an anteroom where his secretary had been sitting ever since sir Edward was last seen alive. And the secretary swore that no one had end all left the study. Sector's name being, Binion. Yes. Under the circumstances, it's hard to see that any other arrest was possible. And yet I know he's innocent, mister Holmes. Oh, and how do you know that, miss Owens? We were in love. We were going to be married. I don't care what the police say. A woman knows these things.
[00:05:51] Unknown:
Robert Binion did not kill my father. Did your
[00:05:54] Unknown:
father approve of the engagement?
[00:05:57] Unknown:
Well,
[00:05:57] Unknown:
no. Not exactly. If one were were to be exact, miss Evans, I wouldn't one say that, your father absolutely forbade the marriage? Yes. He did. And in fact, the Strath assumed that was the motive for the murder. Well, sounds logical, I must say. Does your father have any other relatives living, miss Irvin? His brother, my uncle Peregrine,
[00:06:16] Unknown:
He lives a hermit's life in the country. We've seen very little of him in the last few years. Was he left anything under your father's will? No. I was the sole beneficiary.
[00:06:25] Unknown:
Please help me, mister Holmes. If you'll just talk to Robert, you'll know he's not guilty. Oh, there's no harm in talking to him Holmes. After all, our friend of the star handle the case and he's made a good many mistakes in the past. Well, that will be all old chap. Well, miss Hint, I'll do what I can, but I promise nothing. That's you, mister Holmes. Where is your fiancee being held? At Scotland
[00:06:44] Unknown:
Yard. I talked to him there just before I came to you. Scotland Yard, splendidly. We can talk to the Stroud at the same time. What's in your hat? My hat and, precisely. Although your hat and coat. So mister Sherlock Holmes and doctor Watson think they know more than the yard, Come over here to teach us our business, I suppose. Nothing of the sort, mister, we came over here to make a few inquiries. I'll tell you, gentlemen, that you're wasting your time. Young Binion is giffy, whatever his young lady may say. Mister Rudd? Yes, miss Drume? What did the autopsy prove? Well, got a report of it here on my desk, but, it won't tell you nothing you don't know. Mhmm. Death was instantaneous caused by some weapon like a long needle, a fine stiletto, or an ice pick penetrating the brain at the base of the skull. And no such weapon was found in the room. All along mister Binion. True, sir. But then he had the chance of disposing of it. Just the same. The murder weapon hasn't been found, has it? No, doctor. But we'll find it. Don't you worry about that? I'd just like to talk to the prisoner if you don't mind. Of course, I don't mind. He's in the, detention cell just down the corridors from here. Follow me, gentlemen.
[00:08:05] Unknown:
Has he given you any trouble, mister? Trouble?
[00:08:08] Unknown:
If all our prisoners were as quiet as him, we wouldn't need no guards, doctor. Nice, quiet young fellow. Hard to realize he's a murderer. That could still has to be proven in court, mister Holmes. Well, here we are at this cell.
[00:08:31] Unknown:
Got visitors, Binion. Very distinguished visitors.
[00:08:36] Unknown:
Ladies, gentlemen.
[00:08:38] Unknown:
My name is Holmes, Sherlock Holmes, and this is my colleague, doctor Watson. I'm sorry to see you in this fight, mister Binion. Mister Sherlock Holmes,
[00:08:44] Unknown:
when Harriet did persevere when she left here, I'm so glad. You'll get me out of this mess. I know you will. Even mister Sherlock Holmes can't get you out of this one young fellow. Miss Damien, I promised your fiancee that I'd try and help you.
[00:08:56] Unknown:
My obvious course is to go to sir Edward's house and examine the room in which the tragedy occurred. But before I do that, I'd like to ask you a question or two. Ask me any question you want to sir. It was you who discovered the body I understand. Yes. Mr. Holmes. Please describe the circumstances.
[00:09:10] Unknown:
Sir Edward was in his study. I'd been working in the anteroom adjoining. At 05:00 I went in to say goodnight to him and I found him slumped in his chair dead with blood streaming down the back of his head. Of course, I sent the butler for the police at once. Could anyone have entered that room without your knowledge? No, mister Holmes. I never left my desk and there was no entrance to the room safe from half. How about the windows and said went to a They were locked from the inside doctor. Oh, you don't need to worry. We examined the even villages nor a mark.
[00:09:38] Unknown:
No one came in that way. And what is your theory of a murder, mr. Bynum? I haven't gone mr. Holmes.
[00:09:43] Unknown:
I'm completely baffled. I'm certain that no one entered that room
[00:09:47] Unknown:
yet I swear to you that I didn't stab him. Oh, I can understand the person believing I did. Mister Hyde, I'd like to examine the room in which the Edward was murdered. Easiest thing in the world, mister Holmes. I'll drive over with you if you like. He's out here tonight. Oh, you'll needn't bother us, god. We can in fact, well go by ourselves. You're not a bit of a doctor. I'd like to come with him. Oh, why, lascar? You're you're convinced mister Binion is guilty? I am. Won't you won't you be wasting time? Not me. For once I know you're on the wrong side of a case, mister Rose. I want to be there and see your faces when you find it out.
This is the house, mister Holmes. It's imposing the place. I must, imagine, mister, that you still have a police guard inside. Oh, yes, doctor. There's been a sergeant guarding the dead man's room day and night. We, still haven't found the missing weapon, you know?
[00:10:57] Unknown:
Yes, gentlemen.
[00:10:59] Unknown:
I'm in mister, Lestrade of Scotland Yard. We, wish to examine the house. I must see your identification,
[00:11:05] Unknown:
sir. What are you talking about? I've been in and out of this house half a dozen times. I have my orders, sir. Oh, very well.
[00:11:14] Unknown:
Miss Ervin at home? Miss Ervin is not receiving, sir. Great Scott man. Can't you give us any information?
[00:11:20] Unknown:
There's been tragedy in this house, sir, and the truth of it's not No. I'm not answering any questions, but I don't have to. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:11:29] Unknown:
Now does this, police guard satisfy you?
[00:11:33] Unknown:
Inspector Lestrade. Very good, inspector. You may come in.
[00:11:41] Unknown:
May I direct you gentlemen? Oh, thank you. I know this house nearly as well as you do. I think not, inspector.
[00:11:48] Unknown:
I've served here for twenty seven years. Now, gentlemen, if you're not needing me, I'll return to my quarters.
[00:11:56] Unknown:
Bless myself. That's the sinister looking chap if I ever saw him. Yes. He knows something. You see the scarred there is a possibility that Binion is innocent. Yes, sir. I began to see that, sir, when you were talking to the butler. You're being very cryptic. What other possibility are you talking about? The possibility that Binion, the arrested man is shielding the real murderer. And whom would he be most certain to shield? You mean his fiancee, miss miss Irvin? That's right, old fellow. What? Here we are.
[00:12:25] Unknown:
This is the anteroom where young Binion worked.
[00:12:28] Unknown:
And that door there leads into the study where sir Edward was found. I mean, touched across since the discovery of the crime. Oh, no, mister Holmes. That's why we've had a constable on duty in there night and day. Before the trial, we're bringing experts in to test the rule, secret panels or anything of that. Put it down in the dead man room, shall we? Right here, mister Holmes. Webster.
[00:12:55] Unknown:
Webster, get out of that chair and stand up. Can't you? You're on duty. Just leave.
[00:13:04] Unknown:
Carty
[00:13:06] Unknown:
dead. Yes. The The trickle of blood oozing out from the base of his skull. Well strike me pink. He's been killed the same way as sir Edward was. I presume you'll agree that Mr. Binion didn't commit this murder Lestrade. Of course not Mr. Holmes. He could have done it. He's locked up at the yard. Well, what are we gonna do? Ask the butler to come here, will you? Alright, you are, sir.
[00:13:28] Unknown:
What do you make of the wound, doctor? Well, to fit the description of the one that killed sir Edward. There's a fine puncture here at the the face of the skull. Okay, Holmes. They mentioned a stiletto and ice pick. A wound like this might be caused by one of those long steel hat pins that that women wear. Yes. It's a possibility, Watson. A distinct possibility, and miss Irvin was wearing a long hat pin this morning if you remember.
[00:13:53] Unknown:
Mhmm. Glass walls and a little chance of secret panels here I should say. The window locked to the inside. Yeah. Here he is, miss rounds. Oh, yes. And by the way, what's your name? Trevos, sir. You see what's happened, Trevos? Yes, sir. I see. The constable has been killed just like my master. Tell me Trevor, is this room exactly as it was in sir Edward's lifetime? Yes, sir.
[00:14:16] Unknown:
Except that my master was not in the habit of keeping the corpses of policemen in here. Yeah. Don't try to be funny, Travers. Don't you realize you're mixed up in a murder case? I meant no offense, gentlemen. The
[00:14:28] Unknown:
line of my question, Travers, was to find out if any of the furniture in here had been moved lately.
[00:14:33] Unknown:
Not moved, sir.
[00:14:35] Unknown:
But there has been a piece of furniture added, an armchair of a dead man lying in. The same chair in which sir Edward's body was found. Of course, that's the answer. Trevors, when was that chair delivered and who delivered it? It was delivered the day before sir Edward died. It came from Silver Schwartz's antique shop in Barnstone. Uh-huh. That came to Foot and Strath. See to the removal of this poor man's body, seal the room and for heaven's sake, keep this biggest death a secret for a day at least. Within that time, I hope to have your murderer for you. Then we're going. My dear chapter, Silver Schwantz's antique shop in Bond Street.
[00:15:19] Unknown:
Those old music boxes are quite charming, Holmes, aren't they? Yes. But where's mister Silberschmuntz? This is probably him. What a fine looking old fellow. Oh, mister Silberschmuntz.
[00:15:28] Unknown:
Yes, gentlemen. You,
[00:15:30] Unknown:
interested in musical boards? No, sir. In chairs. In particular, living in the handsomely carved chair you delivered to sir Edward Irvin a few days ago. Yeah. Magnificent specimen. He's pleased with it. He was found dead in it, mister Silvan. And half an hour ago, someone else was found dead in it also. That chair was one of a pair, wasn't it? Yeah.
[00:15:49] Unknown:
Who have you gotten him? That's impossible. Please please do follow me. I I will assure you it's not part. Look. Look at the chair. It's exactly like the same one as, as Edward's house. Oh, my friend, but there's such a difference. Fifteenth century Italian, isn't it? Yeah. This is one of the pair of the famous Mario armchairs. The only three pairs in the world, my friend. Of this pair, one, the one I delivered to the airport is simply a great specimen of the car that I this one it's made looks exactly like it, does it not? Exactly. I can't see any difference yourself. You would have you sat in it, old chap. Precisely. That is why I have these cords stretched from one arm of the chair to the other. If anyone were to to sit in it well, sometimes nothing will happen, but sooner or later, a hand will press a hidden spring into arm here
[00:16:36] Unknown:
and death will strike. But nothing happened when you pressed the spring then, Mr. Silvershouse? No, I,
[00:16:42] Unknown:
I, I don't understand. I do. This is the harmless chair. The leaf of one was sent to sir Edward. He sat in it accidentally pressed the spring and drove the fatal needle into his brain. Just as that poor constable did today. Sir Edward bought both chairs, I presume. Yeah. I would not sell it. Not be, separate. Then why didn't you deliver both at the same time? He was afraid of the dead liver. He asked me to to keep it here until he found a safe place for it in his home. Mhmm. And some devil switched from the court from the fatal chair to the harmless one so that you deliver death to sir Edward. It is a subtlety in this crime worthy of the fiendish maker of the chairs himself. Silver Schwartz. Yeah, my head. It did not appear he die of being tricked into seating himself in one of his own chairs. Yeah. Yeah. He did. Poetic justice.
I am much obliged to you, Silva Schwartz. Now I think I know how to trap our killer.
[00:17:37] Unknown:
Doctor Watson will bring you the rest of his story in just a second. So I'm just going to tell you that after a good dinner, there's nothing quite like a glass of good Petri California port. Petri port is really a wonderful wine, a deep hearty red and color and rich and truly delicious in flavor. You know, port wine is actually America's favorite wine. Dry a glass of Petri Port and you'll know why. Petri Port is not only fine after dinner. It's perfect whenever good friends get together. Just keep in mind the name Petri because Petri wines are good wine.
Well, doctor Watson, this is quite a story you're telling us tonight. So you found out how the murders had been committed, but not who'd been responsible for it. That's quite right, mister Bartel. Holmes spent a long time cross examining mister,
[00:18:26] Unknown:
the owner of the antique store, as to who might have had the opportunity of switching the telltale cord from the fatal chair. And who did have that opportunity, doctor? Mister Bartel, it transpires that four people might have been responsible. Edward's daughter, the secretary mister Binion, had both been in the shop with him at various times. So had the McArthur Trevor's. A fourth suspect was sir Edward's eccentric brother Peregrine, who it appeared had dropped into the shop the day after the purchase had been made. For this last information, Holmes became very excited and launched into eager preparations, which ended a few hours later when we found ourselves disguised as furniture removers, driving a van along a quiet country lane near Docking as we approached the house of sir Edward's brother, Peregrine.
[00:19:13] Unknown:
How's the house, Watson? Ramshackle looking place, isn't it? Yeah. It's extreme as that. Why are you so morose, my dear chap? You've hardly spoken a word on our drive down here. You've never told me anything.
[00:19:23] Unknown:
Why are we trundling off into the wilds of the country disguised as furniture removers
[00:19:27] Unknown:
and carrying the harmless chair with us? Surely the reason is transparent, old chap? It's just about as transparent as doff stocking full of hot pipe. Oh, my dear what? Surely it's obvious that we're up against an extremely cunning murderer. Now what advantage accrues to him in using the malefiero chair? An alibi, of course. He's nowhere near the place where the murder happens. Precisely. Apply your logic a little further.
[00:19:47] Unknown:
Three of the suspects, the daughter, mister Binion, and Feathers, the butler, live in the house and would almost certainly have been present at the time of death. Therefore,
[00:19:55] Unknown:
who gains most by such an alibi? Well, the the brother. Elementary,
[00:20:00] Unknown:
my dear Watson.
[00:20:02] Unknown:
Now you see why we trundled off into the wilds of Dorking. Oh, that must be Peregrine standing up in the pot. She's a funny looking fellow. Oh, my lead Watson.
[00:20:10] Unknown:
You,
[00:20:13] Unknown:
fellows, not a comfortable wrong house. You were mister Peregrine Irvine, ain't you, governor? Yes. And we come to the right house. Alright. Alright. Alright. Come on, Bertie. Give us a hand. Right you or our feet.
[00:20:25] Unknown:
What's the Is everyone loading an armchair?
[00:20:28] Unknown:
You drop it on my foot, Bertie. Look at Easy does it. Come on, Bert. Thanks, Alfred. I got it. Easy now on the porch here. There you go. You have any crickets? I had a pretty chair, governor. Bertie and me was admiring it on our way down here. Cool blimey. You know, off a nice chair.
[00:20:45] Unknown:
Who told you to bring it here? Orders, governor. Mister Silversnitch.
[00:20:49] Unknown:
What whatever his name is. Tell us your brother didn't want the chair and says how, we must have brung it to you. Put my brother's dead. Mister Silversnitch said, he he gave the order before he died. Why don't I sit down any governor? Of course not. Of course not. Of course not. Cool, lummy. Bit of all right, isn't it?
[00:21:09] Unknown:
Look at him laughing.
[00:21:12] Unknown:
Who wish me old trouble in strife could see me now? Trouble in strife. Yeah. Yeah. Trouble in strife. That's me wife, governor. Here. Sit down yourself, sir. Come on. Go on. Sit down. Try it. Go on. Go on, governor. Take the weight off your plates of meat.
[00:21:27] Unknown:
What barbaric
[00:21:28] Unknown:
jargon do you speak of? What on earth are plates of meat? Plates of meat is fate, governor. That's rhyming slang. That's right. That's right. Rhyming slang. Go on. Sit down in it. Go on. That'd be well.
[00:21:38] Unknown:
Hey,
[00:21:39] Unknown:
now. Ain't that comfortable?
[00:21:41] Unknown:
Yeah. Go on. Run your hands over the arms, governor. I ain't that car been funny. I ain't just ducky. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. It is. But but I don't want the wretched dick. It means a mistake. So you better take it back to London and tell him to sell it. I don't want anything of my brother. Jump into your setback. Fancy where you don't wanna sit in a nice chair like this, governor. But you you're the one that's giving the orders around here. Come on, Bertie. Come on. Get you back in a bit. Alright. I'll be Let me get back in the van. Alright. Come on. Happy. Oh, there you go. Oh, bless you, Rob, governor. We don't worry about that. That's all I think, do you, Bertie? Of course not, Alfred. We'd had a nice drive in the country anyhow, didn't we? That's right. Let's get these old horses going. Good day, governor. Good day, governor. Good. That was a false trail, Holmes. Obviously, he knew nothing about the chair. He thought it was supposed to be homeless. And, as indeed it was, that the murderer would have called it people.
I've slipped up in my reasoning somehow, hunched upon oh, but of course. Oh, what a fool I am. We must head back to London as fast as these tired nags can take us. Come on. Get up there. Get up. What's the next move, Holmes? Back to Edward's house. And the staging of a little drama that I'm sure will give us the final answer to this problem. Yes, mister Holmes. I've got miss Irvin, young Binion, and the butler willing outside. And no one knows we switched the chairs. Splendid.
[00:23:06] Unknown:
You're sure that this is the harmless chair? Of course I am. Look here.
[00:23:11] Unknown:
I sit in it. So run my hand over the arms. Yes. This chair is harmless as every person save one will know. Throw them in, Lestrade. All at once, mister Holmes. No. I think we'll fix Irvin and mister Binion first. Right, Joyce.
[00:23:29] Unknown:
Miss Irvin, mister Binion, come in, please. Very
[00:23:33] Unknown:
well.
[00:23:36] Unknown:
Oh, mister Holmes. Mister Madeline, miss Irvin. It's just so horrible seeing you there in the same chair. Where is your father? Oh, mister Holmes. It's a trifle tumor car before you to assume the position of the cops. Please get up. But it seems to be the most comfortable chair in the room, and I do like my comfort when I interrogate witnesses. However,
[00:23:53] Unknown:
it's hardly chivalrous, is it? Miss Irvin, please sit down, would you? I I I don't like to sit down in the town which father died. Miss Irvin, we couldn't bear to see you standing.
[00:24:02] Unknown:
Very well then. Don't sit down, Harry. Why not pinion? What's the matter? Isn't the chair safe? No. I never Never have you cared to sit in it to prove that the chair is safe. No. No. I Sit down.
[00:24:14] Unknown:
Very well.
[00:24:16] Unknown:
There. Splendid. Curious chair, isn't it, Mr. Binion? I wonder about these carvings on the arms. They look almost as if they might activate concealed springs.
[00:24:29] Unknown:
I wonder what would happen if I Now for heaven's sakes, mister Hunt, you're trying to kill me. Can you then you know how Sir Edward and the policeman were murdered, I I I knew it must have something to do with the chair. You knew more than that, Robert. You planned it. I remember now that when we went to the shop you. You. No. No. No. I want you to go after them. I
[00:24:45] Unknown:
No. No. No. No. What's enough? Go after them. The start will stop him. In any case, the police are at the door. Oh. Oh. I'm tired. I think I'll sit in this rather fateful armchair.
[00:24:57] Unknown:
So it was young Vinyon all the time,

Yes. And he all but outsmarted me. I reasoned that somehow the murderer must have intended the device of this chair to clear him. And suddenly, I saw the real motivation. How better establishes innocence than seeming to be obviously guilty and yet leaving a trail whereby an astute deduction

seemed to clear him. It is his idea that mister Irvin came to you. He used you as a as a cat's boy. That's right, Watson. I'm afraid this whole case is a rather humiliating

experience for me. Why why do you had arrested the right man in first place. Oh, my dear Watson, I shall never hear the end of this. Never.
[00:25:50] Unknown:
As usual, doctor, that was a swell story.

Imagine a distraught accidentally arresting the right man. Well, he had that one coming to him for a fellow. He'd been out with it by home so many times. He was beginning to get an inferiority company. What about miss Irvin? How did she take it when her boyfriend, Binion, has proved guilty? Well, when she realized that her sweetheart had actually murdered her father, as they say in the penny thrillers, her love turned to hate. But at first, she she took it pretty bad there. I could imagine so. Mister Bartell, my boy, that's one of the disadvantages of being a detective.
When you bring the guilty to justice, you very often cause the innocent to suffer too. Believe me, never become a detective. Stick to being a

wine expert. You're calling me a wine expert? Now wait a minute, doctor. All I know about wine is that it either tastes good or it doesn't. And I know that always does taste good. And I know why too. It's because the Petrie family has been making wine for generations. The art of turning luscious sun ripened grapes into fragrant delicious wine is their heritage. A heritage handed down within the Petrie family from father to son, from father to son. What particular type wine you prefer is, of course, a matter of your personal taste, but let me assure you of this. Whatever type wine you desire for any occasion, you can depend on any wine that bears the Petrie label. Petri took time to bring you good wine.
And today that name Petri is the proudest name in the long history of America's wine. Well, doctor Watson, what new Sherlock Holmes adventure are you planning to tell us next Next week, mister Bartell. Now let me see. Next week.
[00:27:32] Unknown:
Next week, I'm going to tell you a strange story that took place in one of the smallest states of Middle Europe. Concerns a young prince, a most unusual concert, and a beautiful contralto who sang two days after we'd seen her die at the hands of the firing squad. I call the story the haunting of Sherlock Holmes. Doctor, that's one I've got to listen to. Yep, mister Bartell. And everyone should also listen to what secretary of agriculture Anderson says about saving used kitchen fats. We've all gotta keep running in every bit of used fat. Take it to your meat dealer. The shortage of fat is worse now than ever it was. Unless we help and we all help, we'll all be faced with a serious shortage of soap. Yes. A serious shortage of paint, lubricating oils, drugs, and many other things that require fat in their manufacture. It's up to us. Keep turning in every bit of used kitchen packs.
