Bryan Entzminger: 00:00:00 In all of the time that you've spent thinking about finding and bringing on the very best podcast
Bryan Entzminger: 00:00:06 editor, manager, or producer for you, have you ever stopped to consider and decide what you're going to focus on next?
Bryan Entzminger: 00:00:12 Believe it or not, it's incredibly easy to lose sight of what's most important.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:00:17 When you're in the middle of a transition and believe me bringing an editor on is a transition.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:00:22 So it's important to be clear on this now so that you don't make a misstep later.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:00:29 Welcome to Hiring a Podcast Editor.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:00:31 My name is Bryan Entzminger.

Bryan Entzminger: 00:00:49 you with the tools to make the right decision for yourself.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:00:52 This show is sponsored by TopTierAudio.com, where we provide podcast production services for
Bryan Entzminger: 00:00:58 multi-passionate coaches, trainers, and consultants.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:01 Be sure to stick around to the end, and I'll tell you how you can get a free tool to help you organize
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:06 your thoughts and make sure you don't miss anything.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:11 Congratulations.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:12 You've gone through the process of getting clear on what you're looking for in an editor,
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:15 and that actually sets you up pretty well.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:18 A lot of people don't do that.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:19 And I would say that you're probably almost ready to start talking with editors over the past few episodes.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:24 You've gone through the process of clarifying the goal that you're shooting for.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:28 You've highlighted some gaps that might exist.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:30 You've also identified some things that you'd like to have an editor or a producer or a podcast manager help you.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:36 And you've even started prioritizing things, but before you start going out to find that best editor, that manager,
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:44 that producer, there are three things I think you should
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:46 consider.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:46 We're going to cover the
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:48 first one in this episode, and then we'll cover the other two in the next two episodes.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:52 The
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:52 first one I'm going to ask you to
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:53 consider is.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:54 What will you focus on next or put another way?
Bryan Entzminger: 00:01:58 What are you going to do with all
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:00 your free time?
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:01 Now I realize, say that kind of jokingly, because there may not be a lot of free time, but you will
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:06 be getting back some portion of your time and some portion of your focus and that kind of stuff.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:11 And if you've been taking notes, as we've been going along, you may already have a pretty good idea.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:16 There is a resource available for you at HireAPodcastEditor.com/15questions.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:21 If you've been filling that out.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:22 That's great.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:23 You may actually have a really good idea what you're looking for now.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:27 I do have some other suggestions I'm going to give you, but I would suggest that the first thing you do
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:33 is consider the things you've already done, because
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:35 those are going to be the most
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:36 specific to your needs, to what you're looking for, because that.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:41 The most important
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:41 part, I'm going to provide some
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:42 ideas and some things to think about, but what's really important is
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:46 that what you do is what's aligned best for you.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:49 I will say the first thing I suggest that you focus on as you've been bringing on an editor.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:55 Is just getting that working relationship up and running.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:02:58 Sometimes it can take a little bit of time to learn how to communicate well with each
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:01 other and to work well with each other.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:03 You've both been saying probably some words back and forth about what you're looking for and
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:07 what they give and all of that kind of stuff.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:09 But it can take a little bit of time to make sure that those words can translate into concrete actions
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:15 that deliver the result that you're looking for.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:17 So I would suggest that you make.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:19 One of the one to three
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:21 things you're going to focus on
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:22 first.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:23 Hi, there, I'm popping in for just a second to tell you about boom caster.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:27 If you're going to be recording your podcast while streaming live, either with a co-host or with guests or something like
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:33 that, you're going to need a service
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:35 that does that and gives you high quality recordings and boom caster is a great service for that.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:40 They offer an excellent live stream experience.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:42 And super high quality audio and video recordings.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:46 So later you can edit those into your final podcast episode.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:49 You can find [email protected] or click the link in the episode notes.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:53 If you use that, you'll also get a discount on your purchase and your purchase will benefit the show.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:03:58 So I'd really appreciate that.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:00 Boom caster is what I recommend for you to capture those great recordings for your podcast.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:05 After that I would suggest that you focus on either something that will move you toward your ideal future.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:11 What we defined in episode number two, which was the magic wand question for your podcast, or maybe something that's been kind
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:18 of falling off your plate, or hasn't been getting the attention you'd like, which is what we talked about in episode five.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:23 And you can choose something from that list.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:25 And as you think about this, just think.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:27 In that first say 30, 60 days, 90 days, something like that.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:31 What would you want to focus on after you've been bringing that editor to, to work with you now?
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:37 It's perfectly okay.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:38 If the thing you want to focus on is maybe getting some of your relationships, right.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:42 As a podcast, or sometimes our relationships can be damaged, right?
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:46 So sometimes we take time from other relationships from friendships, maybe even time from family or.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:52 Building a business or some of those kinds of things.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:04:55 So as you think about this, don't feel constrained to only do the things that move your podcast forward.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:00 Think about the things that are important to you and the future that you're wanting to experience.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:05 Pick those one to three things that you think will bring you closer to that.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:09 Now, why do I say one to three?
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:10 Well, the answer is pretty simple and maybe it doesn't apply to you.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:13 But what I find for myself is that when I pick too many things to focus on nothing gets the focus or.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:20 I'm basically just lying to myself.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:22 I
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:22 say, I'm going to do these
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:23 five or seven or 29 different things, whatever the number is.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:27 And the reality is I'm
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:28 probably going to pick one
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:29 or two of those that are
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:30 actually going to get some
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:31 attention anyway.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:32 And the rest of the time, I'll just feel really bad about all the things that didn't get my attention.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:36 So I would suggest that you choose something that's right for you.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:39 One to three is what I, I would try to do.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:41 That's what I would recommend if 19 is the right answer for you, then pick 19, but pick that.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:46 One thing or those few things that you want to focus on, because that will help you maintain your
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:51 focus as you start going through this transition.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:53 Because like I said, it is really easy to lose sight of the things that are so important to us
Bryan Entzminger: 00:05:59 when we're going through a transition like this.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:02 And it will also start to help you understand the value that your editor is bringing.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:07 We've talked about the value that an editor brings or a podcast manager and things like focus and time back.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:13 Expertise, all that kind of stuff.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:15 This is another thing that they're bringing is your ability to focus on these things, to help move
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:20 your show or your business or your relationships or whatever it is that you're wanting to focus on forward.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:25 When you pick those things, make sure you note them in the download.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:27 You can find that at HireAPodcastEditor.com/15questions.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:32 And that way, when you start talking to an editor, you can have these things in the back of your mind.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:36 Then once you've found the right person, you can start using these things to go.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:39 Okay, now that I've got this block of time, that used to.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:42 For editing, what should I do with it?
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:43 Oh yeah.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:44 I've got a list of things that I'm going to focus on.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:46 So it'll help you with that.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:48 So write that down.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:49 You'll have that available for you when it's time.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:51 Next
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:51 time.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:51 We're going to talk about
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:52 taking this one step further
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:54 and we're going to create a
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:55 small framework that's built specifically for you and your priorities to
Bryan Entzminger: 00:06:59 help you choose the right editor for you.
Bryan Entzminger: 00:07:01 Make sure you don't miss it.
