Good morning. This is David Bennett, and this is Bitcoin and, a podcast where I try to find the edge effect between the worlds of Bitcoin, gaming, permaculture, podcasting, and education to gain a better understanding of all. Edge effect is a concept from ecology describing a greater diversity of life where the edges of 2 systems overlap. While species from either system can be found at the edge, it is important to note there are species in the overlap that exist in neither system, and that is what I seek to uncover. So join me in discovering the variety of things being created as Bitcoin rubs up against other systems. It is 8:54 am Pacific Daylight Time It is August 30, 2024 and this is episode 944 of Bitcoin and I really do hope you guys will go and listen to the king ranch episode it was episode 943 I released it the day before yesterday and I didn't do one yesterday sort of just to let that particular episode kind of take the spotlight and the reason is because of the things that we covered in that particular episode the gross overreach of governmental debauchery and the fact that this affects everybody.
There's a lot of ranchers that I talk to that they don't know any in in this area, and they don't know anything about the King Ranch. And when I say that it's a ranch in Washington and I'm talking to a rancher in Idaho, they'll go, oh, well I don't give a shit about what's going on in Washington. Yeah. Well, you probably should. Because there's already 3 separate instances of stuff kinda like this going on in Idaho and you wouldn't expect that. It seeps everywhere. So please, if you get a chance, share that particular episode out. I'm sharing it more than I normally share, the normal episodes. Because this one this one is is kinda special. And if you wanna help out the King Ranch, you can go to ruralamericanaction.com, Save King Ranch and Agriculture in Washington. There will be a link in the show notes for that if you wanna go help those guys out. You can also help out one of the guys in the circle p, one of my pleb friends.
That would be Rev Hoddle. That is Rev Hoddle's applied permaculture class is going to be Saturday, October 12th in Baroda, Michigan. It will cost you 100,000 satoshis. As far unless he has increased his prices due to the fact that we are seeing some weakness in the Bitcoin price, you will have to actually talk to him directly. And you can DM him through Nostr, and there will be a link to his Nostr profile right in the show notes so you can go right to his profile. No fuss, no muss, get it done. But this whole thing is going to tell you how he applies permaculture and ethics and principles to homesteading.
How he builds resilience in his wealth with the eight forms of capital. He will illuminate connections between Bitcoin and permaculture. And after learning about applied permaculture, you will eat lunch prepared with fresh food grown on that homestead. After lunch, he's gonna give you a full homestead tour showcasing living examples to see just how the ethics and principles of permaculture work as they are in action. You will leave with a full understanding of permaculture. You won't get a PDC out of it, a permaculture design certificate, but you will understand the basic function of what permaculture is and hopefully you will leave with an inspiration to apply it to your own life in any situation. Again, that is Saturday, October 12th this year at 10 am. Approximate location is Baroda, Michigan. So, if you're anywhere close to Baroda, Michigan DM him and get tickets which are gonna cost you 100,000 satoshis. There's only 21 tickets available but if you wanna go and you don't wanna buy a ticket, you can go the day before because there will be a fireside Bitcoin meetup at the homestead.
There's gonna be free camping Friday Saturday night. If you wanna book a house or a yurt or a tiny house, you will have to DM rev huddle for details and pricing on that one. So again, Friday, October 11th. Earliest check-in time is 3 pm, and that's for the fireside Bitcoin meetup, and anybody can go to that if they want to. However, Saturday, October 12th is the applied permaculture class. That begins at 10 AM. Support the plebs in the circle p by getting tickets to, Rev Hoddle's permaculture class. Alright. Let's get into the news today. Solo mining or Bitcoin miner has earned $200,000 after successfully mining a block.
Bitcoin Magazine, Nick Hoffman writing, a solo Bitcoin miner has made headlines by successfully mining block number 858,978 on the Bitcoin blockchain earning a reward of 3.275 BTC valued at about $200,000 at the time of writing. The block, mined earlier today, contained 239 or 2,391 transactions according to blockchain data. The miner's accomplishment is significant given the increasingly competitive landscape of Bitcoin mining where large mining pools usually dominate. Solo miners face the challenge of competing against large resource rich mining pools. However, although rare, the rewards can be substantial as demonstrated by this and many as many other previous solo miners' successes. Quote, congratulations to miner, and then there's just a huge name of just numbers and letters, blah blah blah blah for solving the 291st solo block on solo.ckpool.org, said Solo CK administrator doctor Khan Kolevaz.
This hefty miner with 38 petahashes would solve a block on average once every 4 months. The achievement by this solo miner also serves as a reminder of the decentralized nature of Bitcoin. And one of the reasons I I just wanted to bring this up because, you know, I saw, talk to a guy on Monster that had 2, bit ax solo miners running in a pitcher. And I just asked him, you know, it's like, you know, at if if, he had had well, actually, no. That was another that was another person. There was a person yesterday or the day before that I was talking that I asked him about because he said that he had a Bitaxe and that, you know, he didn't he wasn't make he was getting more sats out of his Lightning node than he was out of his Bitaxe.
But I asked him the question, have you learned anything about mining? And he's like, oh, yeah. Yeah. I've learned a lot about mining. And I think that that's really the the the value proposition in getting something like a bitaxe. It's not about solo mining and possibly, you know, cracking open a block all by yourself and getting, like, you know, 3.2, you know, 3.25 whatever, Bitcoin out of it. I think it's more about learning how to mine, how to connect to different mining pools, what templates are. And I believe that that's sort of the great thing about having something like a BitX. I don't have one yet, but I'm pretty I'm getting real close.
I mean, I've already got 2 nodes, 2 bitcoin full nodes and 2, lightning nodes. I got a start 9 and a my node, BTC. So I might as well just go ahead and grab a bit ax. But the only reason that I would is just simply to learn how mining works how to connect to different pools if I wanted to go to a pool at all I'm you know what what does it look how does this work And I don't wanna buy an entire s 21 or, you know, or or what are the, you know, big bad boy miners. I don't wanna invest that kind of money. But I I believe that the following is true. You can learn the exact same amount of information about mining, how to do it, what it means by getting a $400 bidax or however much they cost because they don't cost what an s 21 cost.
You will learn the same amount about mining doing that as you would if you got like 4 big bad boys from you know bit main right and I think that that should not be overlooked just I'm just putting that out there. Now breaking breaking news, guys, from Vince Gill or Quill over at Cointelegraph. French president Macron has denied inviting Pavel Durov to France. Yeah. I don't believe this guy at all. On August 29th, French president Emmanuel Macron delivered a press conference during his diplomatic visit to Serbia. During the visit, the French leader told reporters that he did not invite Telegram cofounder Pavel Durov to the country, nor was he aware of his trip to France.
According to a translated version of Macron's response, the French president said, quote, as far as I'm concerned, I was absolutely unaware of mister Durov's coming to France, and this is quite normal because I have not been aware of the coming of nationals from all over the world, whether they have French nationality or not, end quote. The French president then reiterated that Durov's case would be handled by the independent action of the French judicial system. Macron has faced widespread international backlash for the decision to arrest Durov. And he maintains that the decision to detain the tech entrepreneur was not political.
Durov has been formally formally charged by French prosecutors and is currently free on a €5,000,000 bail bond agreement, but he has to remain in France and check-in with law enforcement every week. Immediately following Durov's arrest, Macron faced widespread criticism from the international community, some of whom likened France to the final days of the Soviet Union and other authoritarian regimes. Yeah. Well, I don't disagree with that. During Durov's initial detainment, Gabor Gerbacs, the former director of digital asset strategy at Van Eck, responded to Macron's denial of political motivation by asking, quote, you arrest the guy, then see if he did something wrong?
Is this the rule of law and, quote, freedom of expression that you are talking about? End quote Helius Labs CEO Mert Mumtaz likewise asked the French president, Why aren't you personally in jail for not controlling 100% of all crime in France? The Solana based developer also told Macron, You can't keep founders personally liable and charge them up to 20 years for not moderating speech and at the same time claim that you're deeply committed to the freedom of expression, end quote. The arrest of Durov has sparked fears of a broader crackdown on decentralized technology and free speech oriented tech entrepreneurs, prompting Rumble CEO, Chris Pavlovsky, to depart from Europe altogether after his company allegedly received threats from French officials.
Yeah. France not doing themselves any good at all at this point. Right? So the you know, here's the thing. If Elon Musk flies over to France or let's just say Europe at this point because I don't trust any of these countries now. Right? The the European Union has just turned into essentially the Soviet Union. The that per Gabor Gerbach is is not wrong. He is not wrong when he's, like, going, dude, this is this is just this is terrible, what you're doing. I mean, at at this point, if Elon Musk flies to France or any of the other European countries and he steps off the plane, does he get arrested? I mean, there there's Reddit. There's LinkedIn. There's Facebook.
You know, sure. Most of those people are are, you know, bootlickers. But still, if something if something happens and they don't know about it and all of a sudden French President Macron decides that that what he saw on Facebook is worthy of arresting Mark Zuckerberg as he steps off the plane somewhere in Europe. I mean what is what is Europe doing to itself at this point? Now they're they're gonna have a brain drain of tech entrepreneurs. That's for certain. And the first place that they're gonna go is probably the United States. But now the United States doesn't look like it's doing very much better as far as safeguarding freedom of speech. It's not as clearly not as bad as Europe but if it starts happening here like it looks like it's happening in Europe then where do people go?
Central America and South America. That they're not gonna go to Africa. Right? Some of them will, but the majority of them are not. And they're not gonna go to Canada. They're not gonna go to Australia. They're not gonna go to New Zealand. They're certainly not gonna end up in China. Japan will see a little bit of of people and then, like, way far Eastern Europe in the countries that are not part of the European Union. Maybe. But I think the great guts and feathers of people that if United States does not hold on to being the last bastion of freedom of speech, you're going to see a flood, an emigrated flood down to South and Central America. I guarantee it. It's just it's pa it's going to happen.
Okay. El Salvador, speaking of Central America. El Salvador's Bukele says that their Bitcoin strategy is a net positive, but, oh my god, adoption lags, CoinDesk. Chris Christian Sandor is writing this one. Naive Bukele, El Salvador's pro Bitcoin president, said his plan to make the country a hotbed for the largest and oldest cryptocurrency has been a net positive, but, fallen short of his expectations. Well, Bitcoin hasn't had the widespread adoption that we hoped for. I feel that it could have worked better and there is still time to make some improvements but it hasn't resulted in anything negative. El Salvador has benefited in multiple ways from positioning itself as a Bitcoin friendly country while the risks that institutions such as the IMF warned of have yet to materialize according to Bukele. It gave us better branding, he said. It brought us investments.
It brought us tourism. I do believe that the positive outcomes outweigh the negative and the issues that have been highlighted are relatively minor. El Salvador, under Bukele's leadership, became the 1st nation state to start purchasing Bitcoin as a treasury asset in September of 2021. Bukele also reminded that El Salvador was a first mover, and today, Wall Street companies are offering numerous Bitcoin related investment products and the crypto playing a sizable role in this year's US presidential election. The country has accumulated a sizable Bitcoin stack through a combination of direct purchasing and its citizenship program. The country, Bukele said, has about $400,000,000 worth of BTC in a single public wallet alone. I'm not going to say it's the currency of the future, but there's a lot of future in that currency. That's kind of an interesting way to say it. Alright. So my question is why is CoinDesk putting this out? Because, honestly, given the price striking that we're seeing over here and we're seeing a cup you know, like, more than a couple of of, red sticks to the downside.
I'm seeing clearly as you would expect bunches of negativity reflected in today's stories and I'm I'm cherry picking the ones that are like not like you know just want to make you go cry. Right? But honestly you know I don't understand what Bukele is saying here. Is I mean I don't think he's changing strategy. I don't think that but is it possible that 58 k gang has even gotten to the president of El Salvador honestly I hate those guys I hate them all I can't stand the 58 k gang and it's time to let it go people just let it go anyway from Defi land to the Open Sea, the SEC has threatened the entire crypto world except for Bitcoin because they're not gonna go after Bitcoin. Andrei Begansky is going to tell us more about what's going on here with the SEC from Decrypt.
As US Securities and Exchange Commission presses forward with efforts to regulate crypto, the agency's enforcement have left a sprawling paper trail across the industry, whether it's entities issuing coins or exchanges enabling them to trade, more market participants are waking up to a so called Wells notice on Wednesday. That Wells notice letter boiled to the surface of the NFT space as the prominent marketplace OpenSea said that it had received one as well. Before the SEC takes formal legal action against any entity, the agency will often send the targets of an investigation, something called a Wells notice.
This document outlines, proceed, violations of securities laws that have been committed while providing the entity an opportunity to rebut those claims. And last year, crypto watchers became familiar with the term as the SEC embarked on a spree of enforcement actions following the collapse of prominent crypto exchange FTX. Before the regulator sued com Coinbase, for example, the company disclosed that it received a Wells notice focused on the firm's asset listings and staking services. In response to Wednesday's OpenSea revelations, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said on Twitter that he's long wells notice companies telling OpenSea cofounder and CEO Devin Finzer, congrats and welcome to the club.
Notably, a Wells notice does not mean that an enforcement action is imminent. Rather, it signifies that the SEC's division of enforcement will make a proposal to the commission, which is subsequently considered and voted on by Commission members according to the SEC Companies that the SEC has prepared to sue this year include the decentralized exchange Uniswap and the trading platform Robinhood The SEC has yet to bring formal charges against those firms which have each responded to their respective letters publicly Last year a total of 46 Wells notices were followed by crypto related enforcement actions according to the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance The figure represents a 53% increase compared to the number of crypto industry entities ensnared in SEC lawsuits just the year before Under the leadership of Gary Gensler, the Division of Enforcement's Cyber Unit was renamed in 2022 adding crypto assets to its official title featuring more investigative attorneys and fraud analysts the unit size nearly doubled in 2022 to 50 full time staffers.
In the SEC's announcement, the division of enforcement identified key areas that it that its investigative efforts would focus on digital asset offerings, exchanges, lending and staking products, DeFi platforms, NFTs, and stablecoins. When asked for comment on changes to the SEC's investigatory scope, An SEC spokesperson directed Decrypt to a 2023 speech from Gensler in which the agency figurehead identified token issuers, crypto intermediaries, and lending and staking services as areas of concern. Staking. Who's staking?
Ethereum owners. That's who's staking. Continuing on, last month the SEC's director of division of enforcement, Goober Gruwal, said some of the enforcement actions are straightforward. He said, certain unregistered crypto offerings are nothing but straight rips, Ponzi schemes, affinity frauds, and other types of scams. I agree. At the same time, the division's allegations can focus on the nuances of offerings such as stablecoins that aren't stable, DeFi protocols that, you know, aren't decentralized at all, and smart contracts that can be manipulated. In practice, Gruwall described the SEC's scope for crypto as broad.
While we can appreciate the innovation around and the technological advancements of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies we must also be cognizant of the risks and harms he said As in any other space, we have a duty to analyze whether the activity is subject to the federal securities laws, and if so, whether those laws have been violated. So they're coming after DeFi, and it looks like stablecoins might be on the on the hit list. I don't think that they're gonna be I don't honestly think that they're gonna go after stablecoins. Let me be clear. I don't use stablecoins.
I don't care about stablecoins, But stablecoins care about me, apparently. Or at least Tether and USDC does because they are everywhere. They are buying U. S. Government treasuries or basically they're buying U. S. Government debt hand over fist. And now at this point, Tether by themselves holds a substantial amount of US treasuries. The United States SEC is not going to go after Tether and they're probably not going to go after USDC. But other stablecoins, I wouldn't be I wouldn't be so sure. I would get out of that. I would get out of all that shit. I'd get out honestly, if you're if you're playing with Tether, unless you've got a good reason to, you don't need this shit. But NFTs, OpenSea, the, you know, place things like that, all of this shit is going down. It's just going to for be it's going to be a forever war.
I would imagine that the next 10 years is going to be 100% wall to wall solid, Wells notice to every single company that has ever released an NFT. And that's probably going to hit even the ordinals and inscriptions side of Bitcoin. Now they can't do anything about Bitcoin, but we do know who who started that shit. And it's possible that if you even touch that crap, then not not if you bought it, but if you were a person that spun some up like ordinals and inscriptions and somehow or another you leaked your personal information when you did it, man, I I don't know. I would I would just get rid of all. I would stop doing it. I would get rid of every of of all of it. I would run the fuck away because these guys are gonna get serious about this bullshit because it's low hanging fruit.
Tether is not low hanging fruit. Tether is like they'd have to chop down one of their own trees to get to that top of that fruit or to the top of the tree to get that fruit because of the fact that Tether is buying U. S. Treasuries at the scope that they're buying them. They don't hold just a few guys. They hold enough that the United States government is going to look at Tether and go, we're leaving these guys alone. Nobody else wants our debt. Japan's doesn't really care. China's not really buying. Yeah. The petrodollar system is technically dead and then it will be officially dead here in, like, at least another couple of years.
But Saudi's, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, all those guys, they're they're not they're not coming to the auctions. The only person that's come to the auction are is Tether and I guess the Federal Reserve. I I don't I mean, because the Treasury issues the Treasury bonds and they're they can't buy them themselves. So I'm I recognize the fact that the only people out there that can buy those bonds is the Federal Reserve. But now that they got Tether and probably USDC, I guarantee you that those guys are going to be left alone. Let's run the numbers.
Man, there is a lot of red in the markets, not just in Bitcoin, but in oil. West Texas Intermediate has lost damn near 2 and a half points down to $74.07. Britton, ORC down 1 and a third. Natural gas is down 0.61% to $2.12 per 1,000, and gasoline is down 1 and a half to $2.21 a gallon. No shiny metal rocks are shining all that well today. They're all in the red as well. Gold is down damn near a full point. Still hanging on to 25.36 though. Silver is down 2 points. Platinum is down 1 and a quarter. Copper is down a quarter. And palladium is down 1 and a third. Biggest loser in ag today looks like it's gonna be sugar. 1.21 percent to the downside. Biggest winner is wheat, 1.71 percent to the upside.
Live cattle is up 0.73%. Lean hogs are up 0.8. Feeder cattle are up 2 thirds of a point. Dow is down 0.13%. S and p is up the same, 0.13%. Nasdaq is up 0.4, and the S and P mini is down 0.11%. Clark Moody's dashboard flashing a price of 58 k. I can't stand the 58 k gang anymore. We've got there some somebody do something. Somebody think of the children. $58,250. We're back down to a $1,150,000,000,000,000 market cap. We can only buy 23.3 ounces of shiny metal rocks with our 1 bitcoin of which there are 19,746,983.62 of. And fees are low still 0.06btc per block in fees, on average.
How many blocks are there? There are 125. They are carrying 232,000 unconfirmed transactions waiting to clear at high priorities of 8 satoshis per vbyte, low priorities are 5 satoshis per vbyte. So we've got just a little bit of spike in fees. Hash rate is at 568.1 exahashes per second. Now on to Ranch Wars, the king ranch. DeBravco is a top booster. 4,460 sat says Baller. Most of this boost is going towards the interviewee looking forward to listening to this. Well, Dibrav, she doesn't have, she doesn't have a lightning address. And this is something that I have been thinking about a lot.
How can I get with Albie or River or Cash App or anybody to spin up one time lightning network addresses that I can just, like, I can just hand over like a QR code and an address to my interviewee and with contained with that in that information is not only the ability to easily go and see the, amount of Satoshis that they've gotten from doing a show with me, but also be able I know? You're gonna hate me for it. But to be able to cash it out immediately into US dollars or whatever with just me handing them like a card not an electronic card maybe like a credit card or something like that or an NFC based credit card piece of plastic something like that if somebody can do that that would be awesome. Because that would be a good way to like orange pill regular normies. Because that's what I'm trying to do is get out there and talk to more normies about this stuff.
But I can't I mean, it's really hard to get them to do all of the things that they need to go do to maybe only make a couple of bucks. Because my show is not a big show. Right? So if it was gonna be $500, then it would be much easier for them to go do that because who's not gonna, you know, work their ass off for $500? At least, you know, 30 minutes of your time, of course, it's worth it. But if it's gonna be, like, 5, 5th, you know, you know, $50 or $25, they they they may be just going, it's just not worth it. But if I can give them a card that they can just scan into their phone or or tap it to their phone and all of a sudden it somehow or another it gives them an app or or goes right into their like Apple iOS wallet.
I know it sounds it sounds weird. I I think it could actually be done but I would love to see that. Dobravco with another 22,200 and 50 says, wow. That's a real bummer. The agency's lawyers should be told you can't eat money every time they say we'll just write a check if we're wrong. That's a real colonizing sort of attitude. Yeah. Yeah. That one, that's really weird. It's just bizarre that they would say something like that. God's Death with 237 says thank you, sir. No, thank you. Let's see who else is up here. God's Death with 237 says WTF.
Telling you man this was bad. Dubravco with another 100 says also could still use thoughts and prayers. He's still looking for a new job so if you guys wanna shake your money maker for him, wish Dubravco some luck there. Stacy with a 100 says thank you, sir. No. Thank you. And that's gonna yeah. That's gonna do it for the more god for the weather report. Welcome to part 2 of the news. You can use Geyser version 0.12.0, a major user experience redesign has been released. Bitcoin crowdfunding platform, Geyser, launched a much anticipated user experience update.

There's a global leaderboard and more. So if you want to go look at the new geyser, Mai Tai suggests that you run over to geyser.fundforward/projectforward/thebitcoinandpodcast. I'm gonna put that in the show. Actually, that is always in the show notes now. You can go over there and look to see what they've done to geyser.fund. Geyser, I was kind of, not losing hope. I just hadn't seen Geyser out in the wild very often as of late. And what I mean as of late, as of the last 9 months. Hadn't seen people posting their, you know, their their geyser pages. Hadn't seen a whole lot. And then all of a sudden they update with 0.12.0 and this thing looks freaking spectacular. So if you wanna go take it for a spend, geyser.fundforward/projectforward/thebitcoinandpodcast.
Binance is back in the news and it looks like, Ray Youssef was correct. Binance has admitted to freezing Palestinian accounts at the request of Israel. The company refutes claims that it seized funds from all Palestinians, clarifying that only a small number of accounts were restricted. The exact number of affected users remains unclear. Quote, Binance has seized all funds from all Palestinians as per the request of Israel Defense Forces, and that was what I was telling you about. That was the tweet by Ray Youssef, which is the CEO of No One's Trading Platform. The letter in Hebrew, he was referencing this letter that, the Israeli Defense Force sent out, I guess. He says the letter in Hebrew states that Israeli antiterrorism laws allow the minister of defense to temporarily seize property. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
But down here let's see here. According to there we go. The here's this, this post by Lola Leitz, And she said that she's been chasing this story since October of 2023. She says, I spoke to sources in Gaza whose Binance accounts have been frozen. The addresses they provided were not listed in Israel's official seizure orders. It was then I was then put in touch with Turkish and Saudi Arabian nationals whose Binance accounts were frozen, who were allegedly told to contact the Israeli police. The claim that Binance is freezing all Palestinian accounts to my knowledge is not correct and this is what kept the story from being published.
Palestinians in the West Bank appear to be unaffected, while Palestinians in the Gaza Strip were only affected so long as they had a certain balance in their account, but we couldn't figure out what that threshold was as communications into Gaza were effectively cut off. So I reached out to other news outlets hoping that I'd get help investigating the story. I reached out to CoinDesk editor in chief Kevin Reynolds, both via email and on the personal phone number that he gave me, and I got ghosted. I reached out to other news outlets hoping that that I'd get help investigating the story. I reached out to CoinDesk. Oh, I already read that. I'm sorry. I got I I I heard something in the in the back, and I I lost my place. I reached out to Forbes who were initially interested in the story, but Forbes refused to let me publish under my pseudonym.
Just recently, I reached out to Bennett Tomlin and Cass Piancey of Protos and got ghosted there as well. In November of 2023, a journalist from Reuters contacted my source to write about the account seizures but dropped the story as well. Finance owes us an explanation under what legal framework it seizes the accounts of Palestinians in the Gaza strip not listed in official seizure orders, and under what legal framework it seizes the accounts of foreign nationals on behalf of the Israeli government. So that's, yeah, that's not it's not looking good for Binance being, led around by the nose by any nation, whether it's Israel or the United States or Greece. It doesn't matter. I mean, I I don't have a beef with any of these with any of these, well, any of these countries.
I do have beefs with their government because it's always the government that gets the people of a nation into trouble. It's always the government of a nation that makes the nation's name a bad name. It's not the people. It really isn't. It's the governments that do this. But if it's true, if it's absolutely 100% true, and and and we get, like, the documentation under what circumstances that Binance sees these accounts and what these accounts look like, and it was seized at the behest of the Israeli government. And and at at if it was actually not just the Israeli government, but the IDF, now you got a military subsection of a government calling the shots, and that's honestly kind of scary.
Let's move on. Nostra web services version 0.1. Exit node internet relay dot nostr domains and more. Listen up guys. This is gonna this is gonna help. Nostra web services replaces the IP layer in TCP transport using Nostra enabling secure connections between clients and back end services. Exit node domain names make private services accessible to entry nodes. What does that mean? That means that these guys are using the Nostr protocol in the same way TCPIP is being used in the internet. What does that mean? That means this is a second internet. I told you guys before that we're having to go all the way back to 1991 to fork the Internet at that stage and rebuild everything again.
That's what we are, in effect, doing is forking the Internet. But we're forking it way back in the protocol. Right? It's like going back to what was available to us in 1991. And, honestly, in 1991, it wasn't much. It was kinda crappy. It was actually very crappy using the Internet back then. And people are bitching about how Doster, you know, has some peccadillos. I'm like, yeah. You think having some, you know, peck try this. Try this. Be me. Go back to 1991 and type in 157.88.164.22:8008 to go to a website. That was me in 1991.
Have no Google. Have no DNS or domain name services. You know how you can just type start typing shit into your browser your browser URL bar and all of a sudden, it it like you can just type the website. Like, I don't know. Not like well, it's just, nostr.com. I don't even know if that's if that's a thing. Just nostr.com. And you hit enter and all all of a sudden, it resolves the actual IP address for you. It does it all in the background, and you just magically appear at the website. None of that shit existed in 1991 through 1994.
And here we are with NWS. We're going to rebuild the web the way the web was supposed to be built in the first damn place. I'm excited to announce the first release of NWS, a resilient connectivity solution that leverages Noster as a transport for TCP. NWS enables seamless communication between devices without public IP addresses. Let me read that again. Enables communication between devices without public IP addresses. Announced as Mogo. Quote, this is just the beginning. With many more features and enhancements on our roadmap, we are excited about the future of n w s and its potential. Stay tuned for more updates, added the developer.
So here's the key features. Exit node Internet relay. Quote, exit nodes can relay public Internet traffic allowing entry nodes to access the Internet using the exit node's outgoing IP address. I'm not gonna pretend like I understand that exactly. I'm just reading it so you have the information. 2. Dot nostr domain support. Quote, NWS now supports dot nostr domains which are valid RFC 1035 domains This feature ensures compatibility with most existing clients 3, reverse TCP connect mode Quote, we've added a reverse TCP connect mode where the exit node initiates a TCP connection to the public entry node upon receiving a request. This mode utilizes Nostra for service discovery while forwarding data packages through the reverse connection, enhancing connectivity, and reducing load on public noster relays.
Now, again, none of that shit I fully understand because I am not a network engineer when it comes to the Internet. Right? But reading between the lines, this is the first step of replacing the bullshit Internet that we've come to know and hate. This is I'll repeat it. This is the first step of replacing the internet that we've come to know and hate. The internet that we have now is nothing but walled garden gardens and silos and tech CEOs that basically just harvest you for money. Not because you're paying for their service but because you're getting their service for free but they are harvesting your data and selling it to the highest bidder. You are the product in the internet that we have today.
A noster Internet is a better Internet. There will be instances where people will harvest your data because people are people, and people are greedy. But you have more control. You will have more control in this instance. It's going to be a years long struggle. Right? It's not gonna fix everything by, you know, Halloween. This is going to take a long time, a lot of money, a lot of people, but we're going to rebuild the web. And Nostra is going to play a central role in that. OpenSats has announced support for the Tor project, which is also going to help us rebuild the web. Quote, OpenSats is pleased to announce a support for the Tor project, a non profit organization dedicated to privacy and Internet freedom since 2,006.
This grant will expand Tor Project's onion service team to enhance DDoS protection and ensure reliable anonymous communication crucial for Bitcoin and nostr users in censored regions. Let's see if they actually give how much how much they're giving. It doesn't say how much support OpenSats is actually giving to I'm still I'm still scanning, making sure that Yep. I'm not seeing how much money OpenSats has actually given to the Tor project, but they have given money to the Tor project. As well, Alex Gleeson has gotten an OpenSats grant for long term support. Alex recently launched Ditto, a decentralized self hosted social media server with a built in Nostr client and Relay compatible with Mastodon apps. Alex also contributed to Moster Bridge, which connects Nostr with the Fediverse.
Soapbox, which is an open source, customizable front end for decentralized networks. Nostrify is a Nostra framework for web browsers. And Deno, I don't know what that is. Letter, l e t r, a dynamic creator platform on Nostra for content sharing and compensation. And with this grant, Alex aims to introduce features like NIP 0 5 username purchases with zaps, a profile customization shop, a better Mastodon app support. He'll grow the community by migrating Soapbox servers, onboarding Nostra communities, and launching henhouse.social for women.
Additionally, Alex will improve ditto with bug fixes, UX enhancements, and performance improvements. Open Sats oh, no. They're just describing themselves as a 501c3. Yes. We we know that. If you are a developer working on a project aligned with the OpenSats mission, apply for funding here. And here is a, link to opensats.orgforward/apply. A few words about Ditto. It's fast becoming one of my favorite Nostra clients And not for the reason that you think. In my opinion, from what I can see, I've been using Ditto for a few days now and I've I've kind of been, like, just really playing with it. It is not feature rich. I repeat, ditto is not feature rich.
It doesn't have DMs. It doesn't have lists. It doesn't have, like, 12,000 different things going on all at once. It doesn't have, like, a separate page for, you know, digital vending machines or data vending machines. It doesn't have any of that. It's basically got the ability for you to send and receive notes so you can you have a timeline, you you you have your relays, you have your profile, but honestly man that's honestly that's about it. In fact, let me just we'll go to ditto. Pub d I t t o, not d, but t as in Tom, d I t t o dot pub. And I've got a timeline.
I have on the right hand side, I've got a donate, button, for to donate cryptocurrency to the project to Alex Gleason. I've got trends. I've got, you know, I've got things like report an issue about ditto and, you know, and then I've got my timeline in the middle and on the left hand side I can go to a discover page. I can go to my notifications which is always good to be able to see. And I can go see my profile. I can change some settings but not very many of them. And then I can look at just the ditto. Pub relay.
And so whatever's on just that relay is all I would be able to see when I click ditto. Pub. Then you can go to global, and then it's got a more button down there, but more basically is only bookmarks. That's it. And do you know what that does for me? It may not be feature rich, but it is lightning fast. It loads fast. It sends notes fast. And if I do want to send a note I can I can add a picture or a gif or like an mp4 or something like that? I can do all the rest of the stuff that I normally do. I can, I can hide the text if for whatever reason I wanna do that? And I've got the ability to insert emojis. So I've got everything I need. So in my view this is a stripped down nostr client that is lightning fast.
And because of its speed, that's what I like about it. It doesn't hang up on me. I don't have to refresh it a lot because I have to refresh all these clients quite a bit. Sometimes I have to dump completely out of them and then get a new tab up and then get back into them. And I think this because a lot of clients, a lot of the developers are just dead set in putting every single thing that they can into their Nostra client. And what Alex is showing us here is that what happens when you don't do that, you get a speedy client. And that speed, the feel of of, you know, being able to to, scroll your timeline, the feel of sending it like hitting post and it's not really sitting there spinning its wheel, the speed of which, you can upload a picture or a video or something like that.
It all goes together to have a unique Nostra experience or a Nostra client experience that is generally speaking not normally seen. It's not that it doesn't happen it's just that I get the feeling that a lot of developers are really keen on putting all the lights, whistles, and bells on it and not understanding that it kind of degrades the user experience. So hats off to Alex Gleason, and that's gonna do it for the morning roundup. Again, I'm asking you guys to go spread the episode Ranch Wars, the King Ranch, as far and wide as you possibly can. If you know of any rancher and honestly it's anybody in agriculture because they're gonna come after farms, too.
They already are. I've heard, I've heard different things. But this isn't just about ranching. This is about all open land agriculture. Whether you're grazing cattle or if you're farming wheat, it doesn't really matter. And I don't even care if if it's commodity farming. I I I I'm not a big fan of commodity farming, but hey, it's it's gonna happen. This is these people's livelihoods and all of their livelihoods are under attack. So if if I can get you guys to spread this, if you spread have never spread any of my any of my episodes around before, please consider doing it for this one. It's not for me.
It's so that other ranchers will be able and other farmers and anybody who's in ag Because even the guys that sell the shovels and the pickaxes and the tractors to the farm and ranch, they'll they would be affected too. Because if they lose their customers because of government action, then their revenue goes down. It affects everyone. It's not just the King Ranch. And they very well may lose their ranch even if they win. But they'll never be purchasing feed again. They won't purchase hay again. They won't purchase antibiotics again. And I know. I know. There are times that cattle get sick. If you're just injecting antibiotics just because it makes them fatter, you're doing it wrong. The ranchers that I know don't do that shit, but they are not gonna let a cow die. So when I say antibiotics, the people that I'm talking about actually know how to use antibiotics and they're not using them to, to, get their cattle fat.
Everybody gets affected. The vets get affected. The farmers get affected. Everybody is affected by this. So please get the URL of Ranch Wars, the King Ranch. Send it to your friends an email. Post it on LinkedIn. I don't care what I don't care. If you've still got Twitter, if you've still got Facebook, post it. Please please post it. I will you can always get the URL simply by clicking you could even just go to Apple Podcasts and say, hey, where's Bitcoin and? You'll find it and then click on it and then get the URL for that show. If you don't want to send a fountain app URL, I've I will include, I think I've already included several different URLs in the, ranch wars.
I'll go back. If I haven't included it, I've got 5 URLs, to different podcast apps. I'll go and include those if those if those aren't there. So if you don't want to send a fountain app link, then I'll you'll have spotify, you'll have apple podcasts and like a couple of other ones. So please do that, and I will see you on the other side. This has been Bitcoin, and and I'm your host, David Bennett. I hope you enjoyed today's episode and hope to see you again real soon. Have a great day.
