Quickly describing things...anyway...What is the Presidential Inauguration Process?

Well, the kids are finally back in school after 16 days, so I get around to doing things that I like to do,   like doing this podcast.   Hi. My name is Jesse Fries, and this is the new podcast anyway.   This is episode 1 of it. And today, we'll be covering the presidential inauguration process.   Now not so exciting or anything like that, but I figured I'd go over it real quick since on 20th, we will be inaugurating the next president of the United States, Donald j Trump.   So before the inauguration and everything like that, everybody knows about the election,   1st Tuesday of November.  

Then from there, the electoral college gets together in December, and then they vote for the president.   And then   come January 6th,   congress officially counts and certifies the votes.   From there, there's a planning committee in the congress,   both the south house and the senate actually get involved with that, and they organize the event, including security with with Secret Service, the police, military, and everything like that.   They also figure out the logistics   of it, making sure everything runs smoothly, and then they also actually take care of the ceremony itself.   With it, the president-elect and also vice president-elect   and also some congressional leaders, they get invitations and tickets, and they give those out to their very special friends.  

And all of the whole process is held,   on the west front of the US capital.   Now the question comes, why is it January 20th that we actually have the inauguration?   Before it was the 20th, it was actually the 4th March was   actually written in the constitution when the constitution was first written.   But over the time and everything like that, from the first constitution   to all the way   to the 20th century,   things changed, and the process be was able to actually be done quicker and everything like that. And so there wasn't a need to have such a long period of time in between the election   and also   inaugurating the president.  

So with that,   in 1933,   Franklin Delano Roosevelt   became the first president inaugurated   on January   20th.   This was all due to actually   making   ensuring that there wasn't a lame duck period,   at least not as long of a lame duck period. Because right now we're in the lame duck period.   Joe Biden is still president,   for about 13 more days.   And then after that,   president Donald j Trump will become president.   But, anyways, on that day itself, 20th,   there will be morning activities such as religious services.   A lot of times, the president and vice president will attend a worship service,   then they will proceed to the capital.  

At   the capital, there will be a procession   of all the dignitaries,   and the president-elect   and vice president-elect participate in a procession   to the inaugural   platform.   Once there, they are sworn in.   The vice president takes the oath of oath of office first, and that is administered by the president pro tempore of the senate   or some other designated official. And the oath that the vice president gives is, I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic,   that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same,   that I take this obligation freely   without any mental reservation   or purpose of evasion,   and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me god.  

The president,   right after the vice president, takes the oath of office, and this one is administered by the chief justice of the United States of America.   And his oath is, I do solemnly swear or affirm   that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States   and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the constitution   of the United States.   Following the oath, the president will deliver his inaugural   address.   Basically, this is like,   his state of the union speech because there won't be a state of the union speech this year because the president will have just given one in essence.   So it's basically just his goals and visions   for his presidency.  

After that, there is a parade,   and the vice president and president along with their families,   they go down Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House.   And then after that, there's a whole bunch of inaugural balls, celebrations,   parties, all sorts of stuff. You can watch all this on TV,   MSNBC,   Fox,   everything. It doesn't matter. NBC, ABC, CBS, they usually cover it pretty well in-depth.   And with this, everything in this, especially   the swearing in, it is a constitutional   thing. It is   the constitution requires that it's a mandate.   And in so the term begins January 20th at noon is the precise time when the new president takes office.  

And this is a sign of the peaceful transfer of power.   There's a little bit of question of that, last time in   2021,   but, you know,   January 20th back in 2021 was still a peaceful day overall.   And so this is just a nice symbolization   of the domestic transfer of power.   And if you want to, you can watch the whole thing, sometimes it gets really boring, but if you like watching boring things, just like c span, it will be perfect for you.
