host Cole McCormick delves into the complex and evolving concept of freedom. Reflecting on personal experiences and societal narratives, Cole challenges listeners to redefine what freedom means in their own lives. He explores the different dimensions of freedom, including personal, collective, and inner freedom, and emphasizes the importance of personal choice and discipline in achieving true freedom. Through anecdotes and philosophical musings, the episode encourages a deeper understanding of freedom beyond societal slogans and government definitions.

April 27 '5 '40 '2 in the PM. What's going on, everybody? Happy to be here. Beautiful day to be alive, folks. I'm, in a folks, I'm coming at you in, like, a really, like, chill, loose like, I'm, like, just chilling today, y'all. Like, we're we're talking about something really important this week. It's been a really good week for me at work and just, like, you know, doing my thing. I got a new video editing client, which is pretty legit, dude, for my side gig. Just getting some extra extra monies for that. I'll probably talk about that in a few weeks or so whenever that's, done and over with. But what I wanna do today, this week, on America Plus, is talk about something that is it's always discussed. Okay? This topic of freedom. Okay? We gotta discuss freedom.
And I think these conversations, it's, like, evolving, and there's, like, a lot of convoluted things that are involved with it. And what I wanted to do this week is, the the similar intention that I've been doing with the spirituality stuff to refine your your spirit, refine your spirituality, refine your beliefs. I think we're in an era where we need to refine our freedom and how we think about our freedom. Because I I I think it's clear that when you do any research in the history of America and the history of any country, there's always discussions of, like, what freedom looked like.
And, depending on what the society is, you know, freedom will look different depending on the time, depending on the the current events, depending on so many different things. You know, culture is changing, and that means that freedom is changing. And what I wanna do now is just, you know, let's just talk about this. Okay? So, like, what's, like, like, bare bones? Like, first principles, what is freedom? What's the definition here? The freedom definition is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.
Like, that's a that's a pretty clear definition. Right? And when I read that definition, right off the bat, you know, I think just speaking for myself, I am not completely free. You know? There's these narratives that I'm a free person in America, but when I read this, the right to the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. You know, there's a lot of things that I don't do because of restraints around me. There's a lot of things that I don't say because of restraints around me. And some of these things some of these barriers, are chosen.
You know? I choose to work in an environment. I choose to be in certain relationships where maybe I shouldn't say certain things. I choose to not say everything that's on my mind in every moment of the day because of the person in front of me. There's a lot of different areas, you know. If if you live any sort of public life, if you are involved with public speaking at all, you're not gonna say everything or do anything you want because of you know, mainly because of, like, what? Your, your reputation, you know. There's all these things, that that that you wanna, like, hold on to. Maybe, like, you're there's a contract that you're under that, that if you say you do something, you're gonna lose that money in that contract.
And does that mean that you're free? You know? Does that really mean that you're free? America has this whole history of, like, what does of, of people thinking and speaking, what does freedom look like? We have this whole history of slavery in America. Not that slavery is, like, unique to America, but, you know, that's, like, it's, like, the hottest it's, like, the hottest topic. It's the it's, like, the most, like, it's the easiest, like, topic to go to when it comes to conversations about freedom and choice and how to live a life. And, you know, it's always brought to that.
Those people were not free. And, when it comes to, slaves getting their freedom, there was, like, a lot of nuance, like, what that freedom meant. And there is these conversations that that even Ye, that Kanye brought up years ago about how, like, like, if you are a slave, sometimes you choose the slavery. Sometimes you choose your shackles. Even though you have access to freedoms, even though you have access to that, you sometimes choose those barriers for yourself. And this is something that goes into, you know, with the wider conversation about society, you know. So, like, what are, like, the types of freedoms? Okay. So we have a definition of freedom. What about the types of freedom? How does this definition apply to people in groups? You know, so there's personal freedom.
There's collective freedom, like within countries and and, and voting groups, and, like, you're you're free to do things as a society. And then there's inner freedom, which is how you think, and how you feel, and how you pray. You know, that's all inner freedom. And there's a lot of different things going on with that. And so, I guess, when it comes to refining, like, this topic of refining your freedom, you as an individual, and, like, me as well, I'm not trying to, like, tell you to do something, but, like, we as individuals, we need to we can't just keep going along and repeating these American slogans of, like, I'm happy to be free.
You know? After 09:11, there is a song that came out. It was just, like, sort of like a you know, it was like this, like, growling song. Like, everyone that was singing the song, it was it goes like, and I'm proud to be an American, or at least I know I'm free. But then we find out that nine eleven was an inside job, and the government actually knew everything about nine eleven before nine eleven actually happened. So, like, what does freedom really mean if we're just, like, being attacked by our own government all the time? And, like, there's there's there's all this, like, def, details about nine eleven. It's like, okay.
Yeah. I'm an American, and I'm free. But what does that really mean in context of the government knowing or plotting, an alleged terror attack. You know what I mean? These are very interesting conversations to have. And what needs to happen is we're not like, let's not go to the government to define freedom. Let's not go to an institution to tell us how to be free. You need to choose how to be free. You need to look at your life in front of you. This is a very personal journey. This is a very it's very unique to your circumstances what freedom looks like.
Okay? Whenever you're scrolling around online, there's, like, this culture of, it's like these random people of, like, these, like, digital nomad types. These people who, like, who do, like, they work on the computer and they're able to travel around. I am friends with a few of these people. And they're able to just, like, live anywhere they want, and they're doing all this all this work on their computer, and they're free to do what they want. They're free to go anywhere they want. Is that true freedom, you know? If you're not able to go in a certain area I'm sorry. My my my cat keeps, like, meowing in my freaking ear. Blue, are you okay?
Okay. Now that I speak to Blue, he doesn't wanna meow. But if you hear Blue meow, just know that it's that time of the day. But I know these digital nomads, and, they're free to go anywhere they want. Some of them are in Costa Rica. Some of them are in South America and other countries in South America. And, some of them are you know, they travel to Europe and they travel to these places. And they are free, but they are also stuck on their computer to make a living. Okay? But these people have decided that this type of a lifestyle it doesn't matter if, like, they do all their work on their computer.
They want to be in an environment that is new to them. And so if they can work on the computer all day long, then they can be anywhere they want, and that is freedom. Some people think that having a stable job in a kitchen is freedom. Being able to just go to work every day, nine to five, and then have enough money to go to a restaurant, and to go on hikes, and to meet new people in your neighborhood, in your city, people think that is freedom. And so, you need to choose what freedom looks like to you. The most entertaining example is Kanye West. Kanye has done a lot of things. He said a lot of things to be to be quote, unquote free.
You know, when I read this definition, the power or right to act, speak, or think, Kanye's Twitter is free. It's it's what's the word? Free as a whistle? It's free like, it's free as free willy, dude. Like, Kanye's Twitter is off the rails because he chooses to say whatever he wants. Whether it be serious or not serious or choosing to be entertaining, you know, it's clear that he is free, and he's speaking and thinking without any restraints and without any hindrance. Like, that's that's for real. And so and I know that Kanye is, like, controversial, but I'm just in a place where, like, you know, like, he's looking for freedom. He's looking for his freedom, and different people are gonna express their freedom in different ways.
Does this definition of freedom, bolster hate? Does this definition of freedom stoke antisemitism? I don't know. Maybe. Maybe just life on Earth provokes hate. Maybe just, like, the duality that we're living in the three d world provokes hate. Whenever it comes to freedom, people always wanna talk about, like and Elon even says this, like, yeah, you have freedom of speech, but you don't have freedom of reach. And, like, you're free to say whatever you want, but depending on where you're at, that might not get you far. And that's a really nuanced conversation.
Like, I'm free to say whatever I want. Like, without a microphone, if I'm just, like, out at the park, I guess I'm free to yell whatever I want, but not everyone will hear it, and some people will choose not to listen to me. You know? But just the sheer act of saying what I want, thinking what I want, and doing what I want, you know, that is something that's something to really think about. And something to really think about because it goes into how you live your life. It goes into how how you think about your life. You know? And, you know, I follow these people like Joe Dispenza and Gregg Braden, you know, Tony Robbins and Lewis Holmes. And, you know, there's all these there's all these podcasters and people and scientists who who talk about, you know, your life is about your perception.
And if you think you're trapped, then that's how your life will reflect at you. And so if you think you're trapped, are you really free? You know? Are you really free if you think you're trapped? I don't think so. I don't think you are. If Kanye continued to think that he was trapped by the Matrix, would he be doing what he was doing right now? Would he? I don't think so. I don't think he'd be tweeting like the way he tweets if he thought that he was, trapped in any way, if he was stuck. You know? He's always free. And so, how do you wanna apply freedom to your life?
I've been working on, my inner freedom, I think. There's my personal freedom and my inner freedom. My personal freedom is just, you know, that that that's just who I am. What's the what's the definition for, like, personal freedom again? I got this up on Grock. Choosing your path, your beliefs, your lifestyle, you know, that's personal freedom. The inner freedom, which is what I'm really honing in on post dad dying, is the mental and emotional capacity to make choices, not just the external conditions. That is that that goes into your perspective. Your inner freedom is how you think about your life and, and how you plan accordingly, beginning with that perspective.
You know, I've chosen to take this path of life to express myself online, and to also talk about how how I have like, it's been conscious, but it's also been unconscious of me choosing this inner freedom to not be a victim to my dad's death. And I can't help but see online so many people see their own lives and see society's life as as not being free. You know? Right now, on my algorithm at least, you know, there's so many people talking about Jews and how and and including Kanye, about how just, like, all these there are certain groups of people who are controlling the narrative. They control society. They they are forcing the government to do things in their favor.
You know? And all these narratives, like, it doesn't matter if, like, if there is an oppressive force, you know, regardless of any oppressive force, you have the choice to feel free. You have the choice to feel as though you are able to get through the situation that you are getting through. If you continue to think that there are groups of people of certain races that are controlling everything, and it's a battle between these between you and them, like, that's not the real battle. That's the that's a real trap. Thinking that you're in battle with other people is is the trap. You're actually in battle with your inner thoughts and with your inner peace. You need to continue to choose inner peace so that you can feel free, so that you can be free, ultimately.
But there's discipline that comes in with that, man. There's a lot of discipline. So when it comes to choosing personal freedom and inner freedom, on an individual level, that comes into discipline. And that takes me to a book that I have read, not like consistently, it's not like a book book. It's just it's one of those books that you, like, flip through. There's there's, like, some good quotes in it. It's like most of the book is quotes. Right? It's called Discipline Equals Freedom by Jocko Willink. And if you read the book or listen to the book, Jocko Willink, he's this former Navy Seal. You know, he has a very, like, military mindset. And his whole thing is if you discipline yourself, if you discipline aspects of your life, then you will be more free within your life.
And the easiest example of this is exercise, of course. If you discipline your exercise, then you will be more free within your ability, within your mobility. You'll feel more free in your body. You'll feel more free to to to do activities with people. You know? So many older people, they don't they are not disciplined. You know, boomers, on a general level, are not disciplined with exercise. And so, therefore, a lot of them are, they're stuck. They don't have freedom to do what they might want to do, what they might think is interesting. So and that's a sad thing, you know. And that's like a that's a physical reason to be disciplined in something. Some people wanna be disciplined within their work, you know. If you are disciplined with your work, that might bring you freedom to travel where you want.
You know, that's a positive side to the to the digital nomad and to the people who want a nine to five. If you discipline yourself within your work, you're able to get a certain amount of money, or you're able to have time, you're able to have space, to to move where you wanna move move around. And that's that's really profound. And I'm I'm on that journey, you know. I don't have that much money right now. I'm not even working nine to five. Today was freaking ten to freaking 03:15. Like, they don't wanna I'm just an hourly employee right now. And so I'm working through that, and I'm choosing to not be a victim of managers and corporations, you know. That's a that's a very unhealthy mindset.
You know, what I need to do and what I am doing is, choosing to see that I have skills, and I have a skill set, and I have a network of people that I know who need services. And I wanna make myself of service to people, so I can make more money, so that I can be more free, so I can have more time. And I can, you know, just see my family a bit more in Arizona and to, you know, travel to where wherever I wanna travel to, you know. That's the ultimate goal, you know. That's been a real level of clarity for myself, within the last eight months of like, you know, when are you gonna stop being a victim? When are you gonna stop complaining about the managers? When are you gonna stop complaining about whatever's going on in your life, Cole?
And when are you gonna just start, like, actually living the life you want? When are you gonna start living the life you want? And I'm in that process. Like, I I am actively moving through that. I am growing within that. You know? I wanted to talk about freedom because, last year like, the year of my dad having cancer, I did not feel free. I I I felt like I don't wanna say I felt like a victim. Like, I wasn't trying to say that I was a victim back in those days, but at the same time, like, I was just I was just moving through so much emotion, you know. I felt I felt stuck. You know, I'll say that. I definitely felt stuck.
I felt more stuck than I ever had in my entire life, you know, which is funny because during COVID during COVID, I was unemployed for a year and a half. And you would think being unemployed for that long would somehow would would make you feel stuck. But no, that's that that that wasn't the situation. I was able to go home whenever I wanted to. I was able to go I was able to wake up when I wanted to, go to bed. I was able to, you know, I was just getting that money. I was just getting that government money, getting that government check, and, able to do what I want. But in this in the context of living through my dad having cancer and not making a lot of money at work, you know, this narrative of, like, woe weighs me sometimes came about, or the the narrative of of, like, damn, like, am I ever gonna catch a fucking break?
Like like like this sort of a thing. Like like, damn, why can't I catch a fucking break, dude? Why can't this happen to me, man? And, that's something that I've had to work through. That's something that a lot of people are working through right now. And what I I I I'm just trying to to shine my light. You know? I'm I'm I'm just trying to share the light that I have. I'm doing my best to to take my own light pill and not and not think negatively, you know, and and and build up my life. And I think more people need to do this as well. I continue to reorient. I continue to refine what it means in my life to be disciplined in the things that I need to be disciplined in. And what are those things going to be giving me in the future?
You know, it's a long term mindset. It's a like, what's like the time view horizon? You know, like, how long is your timeline? You know, there's this a lot of people wanna try to get rich quick, you know, but I'm actually trying to build a life that I'm proud of, and to thrive for my creativity. And I wanna be able to thrive from something that I enjoy doing, you know. And I've I'm just making that choice every day. I'm doing my best to make that choice every day. You know? It's a very, there's a lot of, I guess stress, but there's also a lot of risk in that situation because because I'm taking on a lot of risk, due to my pursuits.
You know, that means that I need to, like it's like I'm disciplined. Like, I'm forced to be disciplined, and I'm forced to to be frugal. But this is all supposed to build up to abundance, you know. Of course, like, I want an abundant life. I want abundant travel, abundant money. And these things mean that I am free. But I have but what I have come to learn is, that I need to be more disciplined in the areas that I want my freedom to come from. And so if I want my freedom to come from my creativity, I need to be more consistent with my creativity.
If I want my body to be free of disease, I need to do the things. I need to be disciplined in the practices that will help those diseases die off and fade away and be healed, you know. That's what's going on here. That's the important thing, man. Damn, man. I don't really know what else to say about that. Like, what do you think about freedom? You know? I don't really care about any freedom conversation in the context of America right now because, you know, we're we're post Trump. Like, we're in the middle of of Trump two point o. It's a wild time to be alive.
And a lot of people wanna think that wanna say that we're victims to the government, we're victims to whether you're left, right, independent, whether you're, what is it? Libertarian, the bisexuals. If you're a bisexual libertarian, you know, everyone's a victim to something going on in the government. And, what I wanna do is just, like, not even think about the government because the government's gonna do what the government does. Your life is your own. Your life is your own completely. And you gotta find a way to be free within your own heart first before your life is free outside of yourself.
And so, that's really what I have to say, man. I think this week's gonna be a shorter one. So that's all the value I got. Let's let's hit head on into the value for value section below. Value for value. America Plus is a value for value show. What that means is I come on my RSS feed and my Twitter feed, the the YouTube, and, I try to talk about a topic that I think is important and, more people should at least think about. You know? I usually read the boostograms on the fountain.fm app. By the way, support me on fountain.

I also wanted to read off some YouTube comments, that I got on this one short that I posted, that gave me some encouragement. So last week, I was talking about spirituality and talking about Christianity and stuff like that. And, these two comments, made me feel a little happy and seen. One of them was like, bro, no comments.
Sad. Which is I'm not I I took that as, like, a positive thing, because maybe, like, more comments should be on on on my YouTube videos. So comment down below if you like my YouTube videos. And, another comment, that came in was, I'm sad that AI videos get more attention and views than this channel, my own channel. So if you're listening to the song right now, you are or when I hit play, and you send in a boostagram, this girl, her name is Ainsley Costello, she's gonna be getting 90% of your satoshi donation. And, which is like, that's why value for value is the future. Like, I'm literally able to give an a musician a split of money that comes in from the audience. That's so innovative. That's so real. And the song I'm playing is There Goes My by Ainsley Costello. It's a good, like, she's like a pop rock girl.

You know?
