As they maneuver it closer to STAR Lab, the crew must unravel the mysteries of this alien artifact, which is filled with ionized gelatin that converts to nitrogen plasma.

Meanwhile, personal tensions rise as STAR Lab's research director, Maura Cassidy, confronts her past with Professor David Balan, who is unexpectedly duplicated by the alien object. This duplicate, named Aviem, reveals the tragic history of his race and their quest for rebirth through interaction with humans.
